Character: Rachel Berry
Fandom: Glee
Character Notes:

History:
Rachel was born to an unusual family of two gay dads. She claims she was born out of love. Her dads screened potential surrogates based on beauty and IQ. Then they mixed their sperm together and used a turkey baster. Rachel doesn't know which one is her real dad, and she hardly minds. Both of Rachel's dads spoiled her in the arts, from a very young age she was given dance lessons, singing lessons and acting lessons. Because of those, Rachel quickly developed a competitive edge which will become a key traits in her older life. Rachel was born for the stage, and she knew that as a child. She worked her hardest to improve her abilities in order to prepare herself for the day she'll be a known star. Not much is known about Rachel's life before she came to McKinley High School in which Glee takes place. What is known is that she entered different dancing and singing competitions from a very young age and won many awards. She also made a habit of putting a gold star sticker next to her name, as a metaphor for her being a star. At 16, Rachel joins her high school's Glee club with a clear expectation to become the club's star.

Personality:
The first thing one can say about Rachel is that she's full of confidence. Her confidence is backed up by her singing and dancing talent. She has no doubt that she is going to be a major success, it's only a matter of time. Rachel is an odd one; she is very likeable and also very annoying. Her extreme confidence makes her believe she's the best singer in her glee club, and while this is probably true, she refuses to accept the fact that others deserve a chance too. In Rachel's mind, she deserves all the solos, because she is the club's star, she deserves to shine. When she doesn't get her way Rachel tends to get very upset and usually storm out dramatically. But Rachel is not entirely insensitive and is known to be a very good friend. For example, when Rachel found out the word about her arch nemesis Quinn Fabray's pregnancy is going to be spread in the school she did everything to stop this from happening. And though Quinn tortured Rachel, Rachel helped her and supported her.
Rachel is also very passionate about her goals, when Finn hurts her feelings; she tells him 'my dreams are bigger than you'. Rachel is determined not to let anything stand in her way to fame. While she is sensitive and her feelings are hurt throughout the show by Finn, she refuses to let it distract her from her dream. She's a perfectionist, which annoys most of the other Glee members. Rachel won't settle over a single flaw, everything has to be perfect, since in Rachel's mind, everything she does represents her, and she will not stand to sing in a number with flaws. Rachel is problematic since she expects the same determination from everyone else.
One last thing I can say about Rachel is that she's very lonely, and secretly longs to be loved. She is worried about finishing high school with nothing to be known for, without feeling special. Fact is, Rachel is not popular. She's way down the 'social status' which results in people spilling slushies on her, and pointing and laughing. On the outside, she doesn't care, but she does say 'everybody hates me, being a part of something special makes you special.' That shows that even though she's very good at hiding it, Rachel is in fact very lonely. She tells the Glee club she rather be their friend over being the lead star in the school's play, which shows that her career doesn't always come first. In sum, Rachel is both confident in her abilities and yet she's very vulnerable. People sometimes forget that she's only a 16 year old girl, with fears and pressures every other 16 year old girl has, only she usually doesn't show it. She's very dedicated to her goal and to the Glee club, and above all she longs to be a well known star.

Other: She talks a lot, and usually very fast. That seems to make some people nervous, not to mention a bit scared of her.

First Person (entry type):
I'd like to begin this entry by saying how happy I am for entering yet another network. I think it is very a very good opportunity for me to promote my talent in many communities. While I am already very busy with my MySpace schedule, and working hard for sectionals, I believe a rising star should shine in as many places as possible. It is my first priority to have my talent known by as many people as possible. Hi, my name is Rachel Berry, and before you ask, I always sign with a gold star after my name, it's a metaphor for me being a famous star.
Oh - If anyone in Glee club sees this message I would just like to say how embarrassed I am by our progress! at this rate we won't get anywhere in sectionals and I, once again, will be humiliated. Sleep and food are luxuries; let's put some hard work into it!

Third Person:
She stood in front of the mirror; just moments ago she was brushing her long hair, getting ready for bed. But now she was holding her hairbrush, she could hear the music in her ears and she was singing before she knew it. She used to do that every night since she was a little girl: stand in front of the mirror, hairbrush in hand, picture an audience and sing 'till her dads came to put her to bed. Rachel always knew she was a musical child, and even more, Rachel always knew she was special. She had so much talent, so much passion; so much to give, and Broadway was her goal. She knew she had what it takes; now it was just a matter of time. She did have a lot of her mind, Finn who she couldn't have, Puck who she couldn't settle for, but she couldn't let it distract her, not now. She had worked too hard to fall because of something like that, she waited too long. She couldn't leave high school without nothing to show for, and Glee was her opportunity. Rachel was lonely, she was hurt, but above all she was motivated.
She held the hairbrush, but in her mind it was a microphone, she could hear the audience cheering, calling her name.
She closed her eyes, and began to sing.
