Life resumed its slow, peaceful pace for the boys, and Donny was quite happy for it, as it gave him more time to focus on his techno-geekery. He was even beginning to think about life outside of ninjitsu and fighting for his life. Except then April had to show up with flea market gifts - never a good idea. That, of course, backfired when the scepter she intended to give to Splinter lit up and seconds later, she was replaced with a man from feudal Japan named Kenshin. Cue time travel to feudal Japan, cue Raph and Donatello admiring April's naked legs. The boys fretted over how they would get back home, as the scepter that existed in that point of time was nowhere to be found. Donatello had the brilliant idea to have the local blacksmith create a perfect replica, only for it to be broken in an argument between Raphael and Michaelangelo. They were soon presented with the correct scepter from Yoshi, a young boy Raph had befriended, only to have it stolen from them. They fought Lord Norinaga, Kenshin's father, and his samurai in order to get it back, barely managing to make it back to their original time.

Donatello was even more eager to resume his quiet life, although the experience of living openly, where the people accepted him as a person and didn't think him some kind of monster, would leave a deep longing in him for something more. When Leonardo departed for South America for some leadership training thing, Donatello took it upon himself to support his family by taking a job as tech support for a computer manufacturer. When Michaelangelo got it into his head that he wanted to be an entertainer at kids' birthday parties, Donatello became his manager of sorts, and was often the one to bear the brunt of Mikey's complaining about the kids he had to take a beating from. Nearly two years passed before Leonardo returned home, just in time for the Stars of Kikan to begin their alignment. Max Winters, founder and CEO of Winters Corp., had opened a portal to another dimension some 3,000 years before, which made him immortal, but turned his generals to stone, all while unleashing thirteen monsters upon the world. He had hired April O'Neil, who had, at some point, decided on a career change and now recovered ancient artifacts for a living, to recover his stone generals. Winters had returned his stone generals to life using technology, and tasked them to work together with the last remnants of the Foot Clan to hunt down the monsters he had unwittingly released millenia ago. The generals soon realized that Winters was planning on returning his mortality, thereby returning them to vulnerable flesh and blood. After capturing Leonardo, they decided to use him in the place of the final monster, which would have worked, had Donatello and the others not come for their brother. The generals were defeated and sucked into the active dimensional portal along with the monsters, and Max Winters was so happy he was mortal again that he dissolved into glitter.

Donatello, now 18, was more than ready to just sit back, relax, and let Leonardo try to whip his brothers into shape while Don focused on not letting his tech support job send him to the looney bin. At least until he discovered a certain community online.
