Sugata Shindo (4/??)

First Person (entry type):

Whilst researching for the upcoming performance by the Night Flight Drama Club, I wasn’t quite expecting to find a community combining drama and ducks... Tell me, is this the name of another drama club? Perhaps... from outside the island? If I am correct, I would be very interested to hear from you.

[Typed and deleted.]I am unable to leave this island myself. While it isn’t a bad place, it does become tiring living every day here, knowing I’m trapped. Any news from the outside makes life just that little bit more interesting.

Well, since I’m here now and the others are in town, I think I’ll look around for a while. My name is Sugata. It is a pleasure to meet you all.

Third Person:

Sugata liked the beach. It was the furthest he could get to leaving the island, the absolute edge of his allowed territory. He stared off across the ocean, tossing a few pebbles into the water and watching them skip across the surface. The beach was primarily sand, but he had gathered some pebbles from near the treeline behind him. After a while he heard someone approaching. He looked towards the sound, seeing Keito Nichi walking across the sand towards him. He was unsure what to make of her appearance and so simply watched her come closer. She paused a moment at the sight of him. Only because seeing him reminded her of a time when the three of them used to wander these beaches together. But still, she approached now, nodding her head politely. “Sugata-kun”, she uttered blankly.

He nodded back to her, offering a slight smile. She was cold as she always was nowadays. “A nice day for the beach, isn't it?” he said, turning back to the ocean again and looking up at the sky as a brisk breeze rushed by. Small talk always helped in these awkward situations.

Keito looked out across the ocean at that, letting the wind blow through her hair as she watched the waves roll in and break along the sand. “We're lucky the weather is usually so nice.”

“Hm. It makes me wonder sometimes, why should we want to leave this island? We have everything we need here. It isn't such a bad place.” He had good friends, he enjoyed acting in the drama club and school wasn’t so bad either. Still, it didn’t stop him from wondering about a life across the ocean. A life in Tokyo or beyond.
