Character Notes:
History: The manga tells the readers very little about Gopher's background - with only one concrete fact: He was given a body by Noah. Who or what he was before that is a complete mystery.

As far as the plot goes... Gopher is a relatively new character introduced in Chapter 62, "Formation", where he is shown to be the first member of Noah's five-man group. When the newly-converted Justin Law fails at his execution attempt of Maka, Gopher proposes that he go after her next - to which Noah agrees.

A short while later, we see Gopher physically assaulting Kid in order to discipline him for rearranging Noah's book. The chapter afterward, he initiates a battle with Maka and Soul, inevitably loses because she's the main character, and teleports back to Noah via a page from the Book of Eibon. He apologizes profusely in front of his master only to be rebuked and addressed as a ‘tool’ and ‘not to forget his place’. Mortified and resentful, Gopher ends up turning his anger on the captured Kid and ruthlessly beats him again.

The next time Gopher makes an appearance is when Noah presents him with a magical belt that supposedly amplifies the user's power by 10%. Gopher is overjoyed to have another chance to prove himself to Noah - except it malfunctions and blows up on him mid-attack. Gopher considers this a mistake on his part (although in reality, Noah foresaw this happening, and thus why he didn't test it on himself) and blames his failure on Maka. Not that Maka has anything to do with his failure, but Gopher has serious issues.

Anyway, Gopher starts making a daily hobby out of beating Kid. One day, Gopher gets so pissed off that the shinigami isn’t reacting to his
beatings that he makes a face so absurd that Kid notices his lips are asymmetrical and he cracks. Realizing emo cowboy goth Jesus is as crazy as he is, Gopher gleefully takes advantage of Kid’s OCD and begins to torment the right side of his body, but not the left. A torn shirt sleeve and an array of marker scribbles later, and Noah suddenly enters the scene. Not entirely pleased that one of his most precious collections has been doodled upon, Noah sucks OCD McGee back into the Book of Eibon and orders Gopher to prepare some tea as punishment.

The readers are left to assume that Gopher is just chilling in the church and doing nothing remotely useful as we only see two single-panel cameos of the boy over the next several chapters; once when Noah orders him to alert Giriko, and the other where he think-bubbles "Noah-sama" whilst staring ahead at nothing.

When the Shibukids in nappies face off with Noah, Gopher leaps in and tries to protect Noah from one of Death the Kid’s attacks. This, like everything else he has ever done, ends with failure. He gets knocked out of the scene with a single blow from Kid and doesn’t recover until, well, Noah is dead. Getting up from the bushes, he sees his master blown into tiny Noah-chunks and then sees his master’s precious book in flames. Gopher manages to grab the real Book of Eibon before Maka reaches it, swears his eternal vengeance while making funny faces at the protagonist, and jets off into the sky. And even though Soul can turn into a scythe with wings, Death the Kid has a magical flying skateboard, and Black Star can launch his wavelength up to a million feet—nobody feels the need to chase after Gopher who may or may not have Book of Eibon. And the BREW.

And so the arc ends.
