Second Sample

Athena made her way into the sitting room of the humble temple, taking a moment to peek inside before actually entering. She had been in the middle of practicing when Kaoru had called her inside. Apparently, Master Chin had wanted to speak with his students. Athena didn't question the summons and left immediately to go to the temple. Something was telling her that something might have been wrong. Athena closed the door behind her, walking over to where the old man lay sleeping right on the floor. She sighed and shook her head with a small smile, reaching down to shake him. "Master! Wake up! I'm here!" She said to him, causing him to jolt awake.

Kensou entered shortly after and plopped himself down onto the floor unceremoniously. Athena turned, placing her hands on her hips while she drew her lips into a small, but cute, pout. "Kensou! What took you so long getting here?" She said, scolding him. "You better not have been slacking again or you'll never be able to beat me!" Kensou laughed nervously and rubbed the back of his head. The old man yawned sleepily and spoke. "What was I doing? Oh yes...Athena, Kensou..." He started, slowly but surely taking on a serious expression. "I've been sensing a disturbing amount of negative energy coming closer this way. I can't tell what it is, but you need to be careful." Athena turned her violet eyes toward Kensou, and Kensou looked at her. Then the two looked back at the old man. "How far away is the source?" Kensou asked, looking a little worried. Chin reached up and twirled his mustache in thought, then said, "The source is in the area. It's slowly approaching this temple. Should it reach here..." He trailed off, glancing toward Kaoru, who was making tea behind him.

Athena shook her head, clenching a fist in determination. "Don't worry about a thing, Master. We'll go and see to whatever is causing such a disturbance. Balance will be restored!" She said, the very fire of justice seeming to be ignited within her eyes. They couldn't let anything happen to their home. Not only that, Kaoru was there and she had only just learned how to walk. She wouldn't be able to defend herself. Athena just couldn't let anything happen to one of her dear fans, who had inspired them all during the last King of Fighters tournament. She turned, looking at Kensou. "We'll go patrol the mountainside once we leave here. The two of us should be plenty to handle whatever this is!" He nodded, agreeing with her and pushed himself to a stand. Athena turned back towards their Master and Kaoru, who was now looking a touch worried. She winked at the two and lifted her fist up into the air, almost triumphantly.

"Don't worry! You can leave this to Athena!" She announced, looking horribly cute. Then, as an after thought added, "...Oh. And Kensou, too." Kensou went ignored as he dropped his head down, looking completely exasperated.

Character: Sinbad
Fandom: Magi, the Magic Labyrinth
Character Notes:
History:
➝ At age 14, Aladdin had raided his first dungeon. Dungeons are mythical structures that appeared one day out of nowhere and hold untold wonders and Djinns.
➝ His name Sinbad of the Seven Seas is given to him because he's founded seven countries with the dungeons that he's raided.
➝ King of Sinbadria, owing a debt to the king of Balbaad because he was the one who taught him about trade with the outside world when the land was barren.
➝ He's first introduced in chapter 32, when he's found in an oasis, drunk and wearing all of his royal jewels when he's robbed. Aladdin then finds him absolutely naked save for a fig leaf when they take them to the King.
➝ Turns out that a band of thieves is cutting off trade between Balbaad and Sinbad's country. Being the headstrong asshole that he is, he tells the King that he'll take care of them without any need of an army.
➝ Going to raid the Fog Troupe is when he's being pulled in from!

Personality:
Sinbad is what you call, a big goofball with a somewhat sizable ego. His pride is his ability to capture dungeons and his many adventures, but with that pride and confidence comes charisma. He's managed to create over seven nations and create an alliance because of it. It makes him intimidating, yet approachable; a worthy foe, but a worthwhile friend. His adventurous spirit is balanced out well by his two companions: Ja'far serves as the brains and Masrur is his guardian and brawn.

While he acts like a complete moron, he really isn't. Inside that drunken, good looking exterior is a guy that actually knows what he's doing. Even at a young age, Sinbad was more than capable of handling himself. At age 14, he managed to take on a huge undertaking because not of his strength or his abilities, but by the fact that he's strong in will.

That said, he's not actually that great when it comes to considering other people's feelings. While he is loyal and fierce to his friend, his people and his word, he tends to strong arm others into doing what he wants. Like with Aladdin, while he does ask them for help, in the end his form of "helping" is shoving someone in the deep end of the pool.

For having so much responsibility, Sinbad tends to disregard them for his own pleasure. When you first meet him, he's wearing his full regalia with all of his jewels and his silks on. He's passed out drunk in an oasis, far from the city and he gets robbed. He has no sense of shame, presenting himself wearing only a fig leaf. Then, as a King, he waltzes into town wearing only something that looks like a loincloth on him until he finds his companions.

First Person (entry type):

(video.)

(welp, this is something that happens a lot. There's a guy wearing nothing but a figleaf talking into what seems to be a magic mirror.)

They say you find something new everyday, don't they? Apart from fawning over how beautiful of a man I am, I wonder if this mirror is enchanted. (he just sighs, throwing his hair over his shoulder.)

If anyone can see this, please I pray that you can, kindly inform Ja'far and Masrur not to worry. (a beat:) And that I was robbed again, poor me. Not at all that I had too much to drink with the caravans.

(SMILE)

Third Person:

Who would have thought that the amazing Sinbad of the Seven Seas would be in their caravan? That he would be dancing with the rest of them, drink in hand as he danced around the flames with the rest of them. Merriment in the air did not distract him from his real goal. He had heard that there were thieves that were attacking this trade route. Carrying spices and silk from the south, this route had to reach Balbadd so that his people could get the supplies that they needed to go on about their business.

As the festivities wound down, Sinbad was getting slightly drunk as he, along with some other young women fell asleep on top of each other. Try as he might to stay awake, his eyes were getting heavy and closing. That was when he heard the rallying cries of the thieves. Even though he swayed as he got up and made it outside, he had something that these thieves had.

Oh okay, he didn't have a sword. Fine, they had that, who wouldn't have that.

And they also had very large warriors, okay. He can deal with th-

But he, he had djinn and that set him apart from these riff raff.

Later that morning, he was in the embassy once more. Naked, once more.

"I don't understand," Ja'far sighed, "How is it that you were able to take care of the Blowing Winds thieves and yet you managed to get robbed by them later that same morning."

Sinbad shrugged, grinning at his poor advisor. "I was a little drunk."

"A little drunk, fantastic."

But they both know that it was well deserved.

Character Notes: Nothing that I can think of at the moment? If you would like to know something specific about her, please let me know!

Tohru Honda | Fruits Basket | Reserved

[personal profile] humblericeball 2012-06-11 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
History | Personality: (This is a mixture of her background and her personality. More specifically, this is how her personality evolves over the events of the manga. I have added four paragraphs at the end that sums up Tohru's positive and negative traits.)

Tohru is, simply put, a remarkable person. From the beginning, her life was anything but easy. As a child, she lost her father while he was on a business trip. The way Tohru puts it, he got sick and he just couldn't get better. Because of his passing, she worried about her mother even more - and for good reason. Kyoko - Tohru's mother - nearly gave up on life after losing her husband. Yet, through Tohru's child-like persistence to make her mother happy, Kyoko finally came around. (For example: when Kyoko would come home, Tohru would phrase "welcome home" just like Katsuya used to say it. Additionally, the little girl more or less took care of herself during Kyoko's long absences. She would feed herself, keep herself entertained and keep the house cleaned.) It was one of Tohru's happiest days when Kyoko came home and apologized for almost leaving her little girl behind.

However, I don't want to over-simplify Tohru's relationship with her mother and father. Later on in the manga, Tohru admits that she was jealous of her father. She worried that he would take Kyoko away from her. I believe this caused the little girl to feel immense guilt when her father passed away. Thus why she took it upon herself to be so self-sufficient.

On a lesser note, Tohru did have a run in with a Sohma during her childhood. After being chased by some bullies, Tohru found herself lost in an alleyway. She didn't know the way home, so she just sat there and cried. Fortunately, none other than Yuki Sohma found her - yet he was too shy to introduce himself. However, once again, the motif of a Sohma leading Tohru home crops up. Yuki, unknowingly at first, led Tohru home, where Kyoko was waiting anxiously for her little girl's return.

While Tohru was in the midst of highschool, another tragedy struck. This time, the girl lost her mother. Kyoko was struck head-on by a car and pinned against a brick wall. She ended up passing away in the hospital with Tohru at her side. After her funeral, Tohru felt like a burden on the rest of her family. In fact, she was told as much by her relatives at the funeral. Yet her paternal grandfather said nothing of the sort. He opened up his home to her and offered her what he could. Tohru knew he was living on a pension, though. As such, she got a job along with going to school.

For awhile, things were calm. Then, her grandfather decided to remodel the house. Tohru lied to him and said she had a place to stay. In reality, she could have moved in with Hana or Uo (her two best friends), but she knew she would be a burden on them and their families. Thus she chose to live in a tent in order to make everyone happy.

Well, except her. Tohru is an incredibly selfless person who puts the needs of others over her own every single time. Even when she was stuck in a tent with all of her belongings - including a picture of her mother - she didn't blame anyone or feel sorry for herself.

Tohru Honda | Fruits Basket | Reserved

[personal profile] humblericeball 2012-06-11 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps that was why Fate finally smiled on her. As it turned out, Tohru's little tent was pitched on Sohma property. After being caught by Shigure Sohma and Yuki Sohma, Tohru found herself living (and cleaning) one of the Sohma households. It was there that she first met Kyo Sohma and learned the deep, dark secret of the Sohma family (i.e. that some of the Sohmas were possessed by the twelve animals of the Chinese Zodiac and that Kyo, the Cat, was excluded from the family banquets).

Over the many, many months Tohru spent with the Sohmas, she grew closer to all of those who were cursed. She even became determined to find out a way to break the curse and set the Sohmas free. Yet Akito, the Head of the Sohma family (a.k.a. god), refused to let Tohru take her power away from her. (Though, for most of the manga, Tohru is unaware that Akito is a female.) Yet there was no stropping the influence Tohru was having on each Sohma family member. For the first time, they looked to the future with hope; Tohru fostered that hope and confidence in them as best as she could.

But that wasn't always easy. There were a few members that fought back against Tohru as hard as Akito and there were many times that Tohru doubted herself. Yet, every time, she was able to pull herself back up and realize that her love for the Sohmas would pull her through any hard times. In fact, there was one love in particular that kept her going through many hard days. At first, Tohru had sympathized with Kyo and wanted to be his friend. But, as time went on, that desire to be his friend turned into something far more romantic.

Her feelings for Kyo weren't seen as a blessing in the beginning. She fought them down because she felt like she was betraying her mother's memory. In her mind, she thought she only had room for one love in her heart. (Which is kind of silly considering she already loved most of the Sohma family. Yet it can be argued that her love for Kyo went much deeper and touched a part of her that had been solely reserved for her mother.)

At the canon point I am taking her, she is just beginning to realize how special Kyo truly is to her and that she does not want to give him up. Additionally, she is slowly (and painfully) making amends with Akito. In fact, she has just asked her(him) to be her friend.

In summation, Tohru is probably one of the kindest people in existence. Her happiness comes from the happiness of those arounds her and she will do almost anything to see her friends smile. Yet her kindness isn't only shown to her friends. Tohru is always kind and humble around strangers - even when they're rude to her. (See Hiro Sohma and Akito Sohma.) It's just not in her nature to become angry or impatient. She is far too grateful for what life has given her. She would think it exceptionally rude or selfish if she asked for more - though she is always supportive of those who strive for more in their own lives.

Yet, because of her kindness and humble nature, she is easy to take advantage of. She is also easy to upset. Tohru's heart is very fragile and thus she feels emotions keenly. She is compared to a flower (as are most other females in the manga), but I think the delicacy of a flower really fits her. Even something as simple as a strong breeze might take away everything she knows and loves - a lesson she knows well (especially after Kyoko Honda's death).

But, despite fearing a life of loneliness, Tohru pushes on. She doesn't let herself feel sad or depressed and she will do her best to always put on a happy face. In fact, she's generally mortified if someone sees her looking sad. She feels like it's her duty to keep her loved one's happy. However, recently, she thought that she could be sad - and even cry - around Kyo without him being disillusioned.

Sadly, he revealed that she was mistaken. Thus, she is feeling even sadder than usual. She can barely summon a smile to appeal to Akito. But she's still trying and she always will because that, in the end, is who she is - a fighter.

First Person (entry type): Other samples can be found here.

A-kito-san? {The words are stilted and whispered in a weak voice.} Won't you be my friend? {Tohru's image appears on the feed. Her cheeks are a feverish red and there is a long cut on one of her arms.}

I... {Her eyes widen and she reaches out for the communicator.} I think I'm hallucinating... {She sways and falls to her knees, covering the knife wound with her hand.} I w-was with Akito-san. Where am I now?

{A few tears slip down her cheeks and she does nothing to dash them away.}

I n-need to find Kyo-kun. {She barely moves her lips, her body beginning to tremble.} I m-made a mistake. He n-needs to know... I h-have to tell him h-how I feel b-before it's t-too late...

{It might be too late already. Tohru wraps her arms around herself, overwhelmed by her own exhaustion.}

M-Mom, I'm s-sorry.

Third Person: This was wrong. Kyo had told her the one thing he had said he never would and Akito was... Weak. Lonely. Tohru couldn't bear to see him crying. He reminded her so much of her mother.

Mom... I'm not leaving you! I would never leave you!

Clenching her fists at her sides, Tohru ignored the throbbing pain in her arm and tried to take a step forward. Akito couldn't be far away. Perhaps he had run from her like Kyo had? If that was the case, she needed to find him; she needed to make things right.

Wh-Where are you?

Stumbling, she gasped and reached out for something - anything - to stop her fall. Only, there was nothing there. Whimpering, Tohru felt her knees collide with the ground harshly.

"Pl-Please...c-come back..." she sobbed, tipping her head forward, "Ky-Kyo... A-kito..."

Her heart ached for both of them. They must be so sad. She had seen the sorrow in Kyo's eyes and she had heard the pain in Akito's voice. There must be some way she could help them. After all, she had caused most of it.

You d-didn't say that, did you, Mom? H-How can you hate him? I d-don't understand... I l-love him! Is... Is that wrong?

Squeezing her eyes shut, she began to rock back and forth. She was so close to passing out, but she couldn't give into her weakness. Not yet. Using what was left of her strength, Tohru pushed herself onto her feet and staggered forward.

I d-don't care. I'll find you a-and...t-take care of you.

She had found her happiness. Now she would help them find theirs.

Current Characters: the mad scientist and the cat troll

Character: Desmond Miles
Fandom: Assassin’s Creed
Character Notes:
History: Up until he was 16, Desmond lived in an Assassin-run compound which basically kept the Templars out, and the bitty Assassins-in-training and their parents in. After realizing that being under parent-mandated house arrest was lame as shit, he got the fuck out of Dodge and ran his ass to New York. Clearly he learned a thing or two while he was there considering he managed to avoid getting dragged back home by his family which takes a bit of skill in the stealth department. He managed to get hired as a bartender so he wouldn’t end up, y’know, broke and homeless for the rest of his life, and was clearly good enough at it to make a living, and buy himself a motorcycle.

…Unfortunately that second thing kinda fucked him over because that’s what eventually leads him to get kidnapped by the Templars. Because he’s basically related to the Who’s Who of the Assassin world, that made him a bit of a target for Vidic’s Animus project, which is, to make a long story short, a way of reliving your dead relatives’ memories. He spends a week in and out of it reliving Altair’s memories to help Vidic and the rest of the Templars find a map that’ll lead them to a bunch of relics that can basically turn people into brainwashed slaves. So yeah, that’s bad. They’re right about to kill off Desmond because they don’t need him anymore, but thankfully the Assassin working undercover on this whole project steps in and saves his ass saying they might need him for something or other just in case there’s a problem finding the Pieces of Eden.

After a solid week of being someone else, Desmond learns how to see things funny, an ability which he got from Altair. It lets him see a bunch of hidden shit and people’s alliances and so on, and he uses this to look at the lovely writing the subject before him put all over everything while he waits to die, basically.

Thankfully, Lucy – once again – comes to his rescue and breaks the both of them the fuck out of Abstergo’s lab with a chip containing the life of Desmond’s next badass relative, Ezio. They escape to an Assassin hide-out where they’re basically going to use the Bleeding Effect to teach Desmond how to assassin in a few days. It works but unfortunately it has a side effect of fucking with your head something fierce: Hallucinations, what basically boils down to multiple personality disorder, the works, and it just keeps getting worse the longer Desmond fucks with his own head, so. That’s a thing.

Somewhere down the line of Ezio’s memory banks, a hologram of the Roman goddess Minerva decides to warn Desmond and everyone else in the we-have-cars-era that some shit went down and the Templars are probably gonna make shit go down again. Aaaaand then they get cornered by Vidic on the way out of their hide-out, but thankfully Desmond’s gotten crazy enough to be badass at this point and he and the other Assassins escape to Ezio’s old stomping ground in Monteriggioni where he continued his training/searching/decent into insanity.

Speaking of insanity, eventually Desmond and his entourage track down one of the Pieces of Eden and decide to go get it. And it’s up to Desmond to do special shit with his special DNA along the way, with a little bit of help from a hologram of Juno, to get to the Apple. …And then Juno does what she always does and acts like a colossal fucking bitch (seriously, it’s no small wonder Zeus didn’t want to fuck her) and possesses Desmond to make him stab Lucy. This, rather understandably, causes him to go into shock, which eventually leads him to just straight-up go into a coma, and consequently get hooked into the Animus to save his brain from melting out his ears basically.

In order to wake his ass back up, he needs to keep living Altair and Ezio’s memories so that the Animus can separate him from his dead grandpas, and avoid getting himself killed by the Animus’s anti-virus program with the help of Crazy McBloodwriting. So he does, which eventually leads to Subject 16 dying when the aforementioned anti-virus program decided to delete him, and to be charged with a mission from another Roman deity to go to the Grand Temple in New York.

Personality: Desmond’s kinda a surly, distrustful guy at first, though granted, if I’d been kidnapped for science, I’d probably be a little annoyed too, but later his personality relaxes and while he never really loses his dickishness, it seems a little less scathing when he’s among friends. He doesn’t really have the brightest outlook on life either. Because of this, he has a pretty dark sense of humor. Black as night and sarcastic as anything, it is. So his jokes, while hilarious, are basically just met with “Desmond, not cool” at most every turn.

Despite having never finished his training, he does still have the ability to think like an Assassin and knows how to cover his tracks, and reveal information without actually giving anything away, considering he did manage to live off the grid for a number of years. He also has a pretty astonishing memory of his own, able to recall codes and passwords without writing them down and generalized historical events.

He’s also really opinionated and curious, and relatedly doesn’t know when to shut his damn mouth most of the time and hates when people only tell him half the story, so he asks a lot of questions when he’s conversing, usually. However, despite how talkative he seems, usually he just gets right to the point with what he’s trying to say and keeps his sentences pretty direct.

First Person (entry type): Okay well, it’s September 8th, and I might as well catch you guys up on everything considering I’ll probably be dead in the next two or three days – maybe four if Vidic’s in a really good mood after being appointed king of the world – which is what the thing they’ve been using my genetic memory to find actually does, so good for him, I hope it melts his face.

But the really exciting news is that I’m seeing glowing red writing everywhere like Altair, because, evidently, everyone else who’s gone through this reliving-your-dead-relatives’-lives thing has gone crazy and decided that they actually are the dead relatives, and my luck is not good enough to make me the exception. So I mean really, I guess I should be thankful that the Templars are going to kill me before I lose my mind, cut off my finger, and climb up the rafters and start throwing pens at people. If I had to choose between the two, the headline Bartender Mysteriously Turns Up Dead sounds a lot better than anything they could write about if I escaped and got all pissy medieval assassin on someone.

It’s been fun you guys. Bye.

Third Person: Okay, access code to escape his bedroom, check. Access code to escape either into the conference room or out of the whole damn building, working on it. Slowly but surely. Very slowly. Desmond must’ve checked every damn file and email and bookmark and reminder on Lucy’s computer by now looking for it – the closest he got was an email about Vidic’s access pen or whatever they actually called it and that really wasn’t going to help unless he actually got his hands on the damn thing and after looking all over his desk for it, he realized that just wasn’t going to happen tonight.

But hey, this room was practically covered in windows, so maybe the door wasn’t the best means of escape anyway! Hard to say how far up he was considering everything outside was washed out as hell – seriously, what was this place supposed to be? A lighthouse? – but he might still be able to smash a window and climb his way to safety. He’d done enough climbing over the past few days that he could probably figure it out in reality too. …He’d also done enough falling off tall buildings so maybe that wasn’t the best idea.

Okay, yeah, maybe just waiting for the code was for the best.

History:

To start with, Ventus was an apprentice under Master Xehanort but after he refused to use the Darkness inside himself to help create the χ-Blade, he uses his own Keyblade to extract the Darkness from Ven’s heart and give it the name Vanitas. This left Ventus in a comatose state so his Master took him to Destiny Islands to live out his last days. But here, Ventus was able to talk to a young Sora and connect his broken heart to Sora’s so he can stay alive and become strong enough to mend his heart on his own.

Once Xehanort realises that Ventus isn’t dying, he takes the boy to the Land of Departure to be raised and taught by Master Eraqus. Terra and Aqua greet Ventus with open arms but quickly find out that Ventus has amnesia and so they don’t talk about the past. The three become firm friends and train together to move towards their common goal: To become Keyblade Masters.

On the day of Terra and Aqua’s Mark of Mastery exam, Master Xehanort turns up to watch with his new apprentice, Vanitas. Vanitas gives Ventus some incentive to leave home by suggesting that Terra won’t be the same person when he comes back from the task set by Master Eraqus. Fearing the worst, Ventus goes after Terra into the Lanes Between and starts his journey.

He visits lots of worlds and eventually meets up with Terra and Aqua in Radiant Garden. They fight a giant Unversed together but Terra leaves soon after. Aqua tries to bring Ventus home but he refuses and goes in search of other friends. He meets lots of new people in every world but it all comes down to meeting his old Master again in the Badlands. He is finally told of his past and goes home to ask Master Eraqus about it. They fight and Eraqus tries to destroy Ventus to save the world from χ-Blade. But Terra arrives in time to stop him and sends Ventus to Destiny Islands where Vanitas was waiting for him. They talk and eventually Vanitas taunts Ventus into fighting him at the Keyblade Graveyard.

So Ventus journeys there so he can save his friends, and while he does destroy the χ-Blade, it destroys his heart as well. He is placed in Castle Oblivion by Aqua and is still in his comatose state.

Personality:

Ventus is the youngest of the three main characters and his original group of friends but he doesn't let it bother him. Instead he learns from Terra and Aqua and even goes as far as looking up to Terra like an older brother. He does show his youth in several scenes such as when Scrooge McDuck tells him to take two grown-ups to Disney Town and he gives the tickets to Terra and Aqua. Not long after that, he is told to go home by both of his friends and he pouts and doesn't understand they're just trying to protect him from harm. Instead of going home as told, he continues to search for them and others for his friendship until the end which could be a willingness to prove he is not a kid as he appears to be.

Throughout the game, Ventus is shown to have remarkable courage despite the odds, loyalty to both friends and strangers and curiosity which should get him in trouble. He is seen protecting Jaq from Lucifer when he was no larger than the mouse, helping Snow White through the woods after only just meeting her and fighting off the Unversed for Ienzo even though he hadn't seen the boy before. He doesn't mind putting himself in danger for others, especially Terra and Aqua and will do so even if he knows the risk is losing his own heart.

To Ventus, friendship is the most important thing. It's what gives him his power and his friends' power comes from him. It's his friendship with Terra and Aqua which makes me fight Vanitas in the end and let him forge the χ-blade with his heart. This bravery and selflessness is his greatest strength and his greatest weakness.

First Person (entry type):

The last few days have been really strange. I wish I'd realised that the night of the meteor shower was the last time everything was going to be normal. Terra and Aqua's Mark of Mastery exam didn't go as planned, at least for Terra, and now everything's changed. Terra left soon after the results and I need to find him. I can't let the Masked Boy be right. He doesn't know the first thing about Terra! I hope I find him soon. And I do, we'll go home and everything will be normal again. I'll miss my armour and glider though. Oh I hope he's alright. I hope he and Aqua are alright.

Third Person:

Ventus sat in the Radiant Garden for a while after Lea and Isa had left and thought about the road ahead. Perhaps he didn't need to follow the road Terra and Aqua had taken. He'd always be there for them if they needed him, and they'd always be there for him if he needed them, but for now, he'd go his own way.

He wanted to learn about friendship, make new friends and know how those friends valued the concept and his own friendship with them. He needed to learn more about it. It was one of many reasons he's left home in the first place. Standing up, he took out Terra's wooden Keyblade and grinned. He'd meet up with them some point down the line, but for now, this was his own path.

Throwing his own Keyblade into the air, he summoned his Keyblade Glider and smiled. This was going to one fun story to tell when he did finally meet up with Terra and Aqua, and he couldn't wait to create it.

Character: Peggy Carter
Fandom: Captain America: The First Avenger | Marvel Cinematic Universe

Character Notes:
History:
Not much is known about Peggy’s background, other than the fact that she is English and an Agent of some sort (unfortunately it’s never specified in the movie what agency she’s actually with, although in the comics she was something to do with the French Resistance). She is first introduced after Steve has met Dr. Erskine and been signed up to join a special division of the U.S. Army. Peggy oversees the training week (answering to Colonel Phillips) and seems to be drawn to Steve pretty much from the beginning – most notably she is amused by his creativity and originality when he is the one who figures out how to bring the flag from the top of a pole to the team leader, thus scoring a ride back to base in the car.

Once it’s been decided Steve is the most appropriate choice for the serum experiment, Peggy rides with him to the lab on the morning of the procedure and the two of them bond over their determination to stand up for themselves (Steve because he’s a scrawny kid without much going for him, Peggy because she’s a woman wanting to be taken seriously in her line of work). Although she tries to maintain a professional distance, it’s pretty obvious she’s amused by Steve’s lack of social skills when it comes to women and possibly even finds him endearing.

The experiment turns out to be a success, hurrah! Beforehand Peggy is clearly nervous – and not only because a lot is riding on this experiment. Apparently she’s come to care for Steve and is anxious for him – seen when he cries out in pain and she immediately orders everything to be shut down to save him (of course, Steve is stubborn and insists on going through with it, which is just as well really otherwise it would have been a very short, disappointing movie).

Of course, nothing is ever simple, and everyone’s celebrations are interrupted by a Hydra spy destroying part of the lab. While most people are running about in a flap and Steve is distracted trying to see if Erskine is going to survive his gunshot wounds, Peggy springs into action and gives chase to the spy. She manages to shoot his getaway driver but by this point Steve has decided to join the fray and “help”...by pulling her out of the way of the speeding car before she can shoot the spy too. Of course, even if she’d managed it she probably would have been hit too, but that is completely beside the point and she’s annoyed by Steve’s actions.

Steve catches the spy, who swallows poison so he can’t be taken in for questioning. A bit later, a doctor is taking another blood sample from Steve with Peggy supervising, because the only other vial of serum they had got destroyed in the fight with the spy, meaning the only way they can make more is by using Steve’s blood/DNA.

Colonel Phillips then orders Peggy to London with him for war-related stuff, but refuses to let Steve come since he’s an experiment, and one super solider does not an effective army make. So while Steve is convinced to sell bonds for the war effort and embarks on his 5-month tour of major cities, Peggy is off in London – and possibly at the front too – gathering intel and other important things which we don’t get to see.

And then it’s early November (1943) and Steve and his harem performers have been sent to Italy to try and entertain the troops. He fails miserably and goes to cheer himself up by doodling, when lo! Peggy appears. She doesn’t seem too impressed by Steve the Performing Monkey, telling him he was meant for more than that. During their conversation, it transpires that Steve had just been in front of what was left of the 107th – the Division(?) Steve’s best friend Bucky had enlisted in. Upon finding out that the majority of the troops were POWs and that Bucky was not amongst those who returned, Steve decides to launch a one-man rescue mission. Peggy intervenes, but rather than stopping Steve from going, she helps. She convinces Howard Stark to fly them over enemy lines, where Steve can parachute down at a safe distance, and then call them to come get him and the troops when he’s done.

Obviously, the enemy doesn’t take too kindly to their plane and tries to shoot them down, which means Steve decides to jump out earlier than planned. Peggy tries to stop him, insisting it would be better to take him as far as possible, but Steve refuses and points out that he ranks at Captain level so he doesn’t have to listen to her.

Epic rescue mission is epic, but since Steve’s communicator ends up with a bullet hole in it, he can’t call back to base to let everyone know he’s alive and has managed to free the other soldiers. This leads Colonel Phillips to be seen writing a letter to Senator Brandt back in the U.S., informing him that Steve is missing, presumed dead. He blames Peggy for them losing Steve, but she stands up to him and says she doesn’t regret her actions. Steve and the rescued troops show up soon after, though, so all is forgiven.

And we’re back in the war rooms below London, where Steve tells everyone about a map of possible Hydra bases he’d seen back in Austria, and Col. Phillips instructs Peggy to coordinate with MI6 on the matter. I’m assuming this is now early 1944 since in the previous scene Steve was meant to be receiving a medal for his actions. The rescue took place around the 3rd of November, but considering the troops would have had to walk back to base camp, presumably that would have taken a while, so I’m guessing they’d get back a few days later, and debriefs and paperwork would have to happen...a bit of handwaving is needed, but personally I think the next events would have happened after Christmas.

Steve puts together a team (made up of soldiers he’d rescued) to destroy the bases. And by put together I mean he hangs out with them in a bar and they agree but only if he buys them all drinks for the rest of the night. Which he does. Peggy shows up looking pretty in...red, but apparently she’s not dressed up to go dancing since she has another conversation with Steve about finding the right partner. Or, it’s kind of a conversation with Bucky, but she spends the whole time staring lovingly into Steve’s eyes, which Bucky finds most upsetting. Poor bb isn’t used to being ignored. Anyway, Peggy was there to tell Steve he needs to be back at the war office prompt at 8 the following morning so Stark can equip him with his fancy new weaponry.

The next day, a horny secretary tries to make a move on Steve while he’s waiting to see Col. Phillips and Peggy catches them mid-make out session which, understandably, pisses her off a great deal. Steve gets defensive and starts blabbering about fondue, which he’s convinced is a euphemism, but Peggy just rolls her eyes at him and leaves him to it. Stark very kindly educates Steve on the real definition of fondue and then Steve picks his new shield, made out of vibranium. When Peggy happens to wander past and Steve asks her what she thinks, her response is to shoot a gun at him and let that do the talking. The shield isn’t even dented and Peggy feels better, while poor Steve just looks hurt and confused.

Steve and his Merry Men go off kicking butt and being awesome, trailed by some camera guy who sends footage back to the home front for people to watch and twiddle their moustaches at and nod and say “hm”. Or in Peggy’s case, blush when there’s a clear shot of Steve’s compass, which has a photo of Peggy taped to it. Who knows how he even got that.

Unfortunately, one of the missions doesn’t go brilliantly and Bucky ends up dying, leaving Steve very depressed. Peggy finds him in a burnt out shell of a bar trying, and failing, to get drunk. They have another serious conversation and Peggy manages to comfort him a little and talk some sense into him.

Finally, the main base is found and an attack launched. Steve and other soldiers go in fighting, and at one point Peggy manages to save Steve from a guy with a flame thrower. They almost have a ~moment~ but Peggy reminds Steve he was in the middle of something, and he legs it after Schmidt, the bad guy. Although Steve is now a very fast runner, he can’t quite manage to catch up with the airship Schmidt is zooming away in... but luckily Col. Phillips and Peggy arrive in a car and Steve hops in so they can race after Schmidt. Steve’s just about to jump from the car to the plane when Peggy grabs him for a quick kiss, leaving Steve somewhat stunned.

Yadda yadda, big fight between Steve and Schmidt which results in Schmidt/Red Skull being disintegrated or something, and Steve ends up stuck on a plane that is en route to New York. Steve realises he has no choice but to force the plane down because otherwise it will blow up New York. He manages to get in contact with the base, where Peggy answers. She tries to dissuade him from his suicide mission but they both know it’s the only way. They talk and make plans to go to a dance when this is all over – but they both know the conversation is only to distract Steve from what’s about to happen, and Peggy struggles to play along. For the first time she can’t maintain her stiff upper lip and she’s fighting back tears as they talk, which she surrenders to when the feed goes dead.

Ultimately, the war is won and everyone celebrates V.E. Day. Peggy is seen helping clear out the war rooms and Colonel Phillips hands her a folder marked “Captain America: Inactive”.

That’s the last we see of Peggy, although of course the movie ends with Steve eventually being found in the ice and taking back to S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ in NYC, where he wakes up and is upset to find out he’s been asleep for nearly 70 years and thus missed his date with Peggy.

Personality:
Peggy is a strong woman who has worked hard to reach the position she’s in. She’s aware that it’s still pretty much a man’s world, despite all that the First World War did for women’s rights. As such, she doesn’t take kindly to people (mostly men) who give her attitude for being female and in the army – she punches one soldier when he tries to hit on her, showing she is definitely not someone to be messed with. She’s not afraid to get her hands dirty and has had hand-to-hand combat training as well as learnt how fire various models of guns.

She also doesn’t like to be seen as a “damsel in distress”; she is more than capable of looking after herself in a fight and when in the movie Steve pulls her out of the way of a speeding car, her first reaction is to angrily shout at him because he made her miss the shot she’d been going to take at an enemy spy. Of course, Steve didn’t do it because she’s a woman and he thought she needed rescuing, but because she genuinely was about to get hurt. Still, Peggy’s used to dealing with the attitude that women need a man to take care of them, so she assumes (at first) that that was Steve’s thinking, too.

She’s very much a soldier, strict and disciplined, but at the same time she isn’t afraid to break the rules if she thinks it’s necessary – and she will then defend her actions rather than simply accepting punishment.

Since most of her time is spent around men (and soldiers, at that), she works hard to come across as distant, almost uncaring of what they think of her. She has earned their respect and isn’t concerned about those that fear her (which some probably do. See: Howard Stark staring at her like she’s mad when she fires upon their star soldier, but not saying anything).

That being said, she does also have a soft side, but you have to be a special kind of person to see it. Basically, if you’re innocent and naive – like one Steve Rogers – she’s more likely to let you see past the walls she’s built up.

Other:
Here are a couple of quotes from the actress who plays Peggy, taken from the movie’s wikipedia page:
“She's an English soldier through and through, although she always looks fabulous. She might stand there with a machine-gun shooting Nazis, but she's obviously gone to the loo beforehand and applied a bit of lipstick. She doesn't need to be rescued.” and “I think she's quite stubborn, a slightly frustrated woman who struggles with being a woman in that time...she’s very much a fighter.”

First Person (entry type):
May 23.
A telegram arrived from Stark today. Nothing so far, but he will, of course, keep looking. If anyone can succeed it will be him. Meanwhile I am trying to keep busy since there's still a lot of work to be done here as well, though I confess it is rather difficult to concentrate. Part of me wishes I could have accompanied Stark...

But no matter. I must trust him to do what he can.

I've been invited to an event at The Red Lion at the end of the week. Their rebuilding work is almost complete and there is to be an evening of entertainment Friday night. I don't think I shall go, though. I'm not much in the mood for celebrations and I certainly don't want to go dancing. Not without him.

Third Person:
It had been difficult to hide her smile when Colonel Phillips was distracted from giving his pep talk when his gaze landed on the scrawny kid in the group. At least Erskine had kept everyone in the dark, not just her. She’d almost suspected him of choosing this young man on purpose, just to see how she’d react when she saw him, but chose to give him the benefit of the doubt. He seemed serious about the choice, but by the end of the first day of training Peggy was struggling to see his point of view. Rogers was determined, a hard worker, there was no doubt about that. He was also completely unfit and didn’t stand a chance up against these other lads. Especially not when the likes of Hodge was going out of his way to make things more difficult; if he thought no one saw the way he stuck his foot out when Rogers was running past or stood on Rogers’s fingers if he happened to catch up on the rope climb, he was sorely mistaken. (And if Peggy happened to make up some reasons to disqualify him from certain exercises so he had to redo them, it’s not like anyone said anything.) Rogers might not be the obvious choice at the end of the week, but there was certainly something...almost magnetic about him.

It was later that week when their eyes met yet again – this time while Rogers struggled to finish this batch of star-jumps – that Peggy realised that perhaps she wasn’t being as unbiased as she was supposed to be. Rogers flashed her a pained smile, favouring his right side where his muscles were clearly spasming from the effort, and Peggy quickly looked away, pretending to make a couple of notes on her clipboard before moving down the line. “Is that all you’ve got? Come on ladies, if this is the best you can do you might as well go home and get back to saving scrap metal. The army would rather send monkeys to the front than you miserable excuses for soldiers.”
