Character: Bo Jones Fandom: Lost Girl Character Notes: History:
" Life's hard when you don't know who you are. It's harder if you don't know what you are. My love carries a death sentence. I was lost for years, searching while hiding, only to find I belonged to a world hidden from humans. I won't hide anymore! I will live the life I choose!" -episode intro
The whole of Bo can be summed up in the title: She is a succubus that was lost for years. She had no idea who she was, what she was, or the history behind her parentage. All she knew was when she was hungry, she felt the urge to have sex with someone which always ended in that person's death. It wasn't until the opening of Lost Girl that she even knew that the Fae existed and that she was a succubus. How could that be?
As it turned out, Bo had been given up to a human family as an infant. These humans had no idea about the Fae and raised the little baby as their own. Bo had a completely normal human upbringing. That is, until she was eighteen and she was losing her virginity to her first love, Kyle Williams. This also marked her first kill as a succubus, and had her run away from home to escape the murder. Forging new IDs ("Bo Jones" is actually one of her many fake names, as the name she actually grew up with was Beth Dennis, a name she no longer goes by) and skipping town each time she gave into her succubus urges and killed someone.
It was her ineptitude as a succubus that captured the attention of the Fae in the first episode. To save a young female runaway from a rapist, she fed off the rapist's sexual chi and killed him, taking the runaway, Kenzi, back to the abandoned building she was calling home and leaving the body in the elevator she killed him in. This kill caught the attention of law enforcement, as smiling dead bodies are wont to do, and two officers in particular: Dyson and Hale, two Fae working as police detectives that investigate Fae kill. They eventually find her and capture her so the Fae Elders could mete out their punishment.
As it is, they know she's not aligned with either the Light or the Dark, and she would have to choose a side. While the Ash, the leader of the Light Fae, and the Morrigan, the leader of the Dark, talk about either killing the outlier or forcing her to choose a side, Bo learns what she is from the Ash's human doctor Lauren. And she finds out that as a succubus, as a Fae, she is not alone. She is not weird or a freak. And she can learn to control her feeding, not to kill anymore. But the Ash and the Morrigan need her to choose a side. So they force her to prove herself in a physical and mental battle against two Underfae in a trial by combat. She nearly loses in the mental battle… until Kenzi sneaks in and screams at Bo to wake up, come back to them, she's dying. That was what cemented her decision as to what side she would choose:
Neither.
And now, as the first neutral Fae, Bo lived aware of what she was, learning how to control her abilities, and what her new world held for her. With Kenzi's help, she set herself up as a private investigator, taking jobs for both sides of the Fae, and learning more about herself, her biological family, and why she was lost for all those years.
A lot happens as she looks, most of it including teaching herself to control her abilities and hunger, meeting other Fae, and falling in love with both a Were-Shifter by the name of Dyson (yes, the same one that investigated her kill) and the human doctor, Lauren. One Fae she meets happens to be another succubus, the first other succubus she's ever met, by the name of Saskia. She teachers her how to not just suck chi with a kiss, but give it back, and tries to take Bo completely under her wing. However, Bo's relationship with the Light does not sit well with this Dark Fae, and Saskia leaves town after helping Bo with a case including their polar opposite, a Fae that feeds on sexual shame, an alabaster.
As time goes on, her relationships with both Dyson and Lauren are strained. Dyson, while Light Fae and thus supposedly loyal to the Ash, is actually quite loyal to a seemingly innocent barkeep by the name of Trick. This simple bartender is actually the old Blood King, the one that forced a peace between warring tribes of Fae thousands of years ago and created the divide between them. And as it turns out, they both know who Bo's mother is and try to keep her from finding out. At first, Dyson tries to keep his relationship with Bo strictly sexual: She would only come to him for healing or if she needed a quick boost of power. But that quickly fell apart as he found he was falling in love with her too.
Her relationship with Lauren causes quite a bit of jealousy in Dyson. The animal he shifts into is a wolf, and the succubus he mated with flirting and falling in love with a human girl as well doesn't sit well with him. Also at first, Bo and Lauren had a professional relationship: Lauren helped Bo with anything scientific regarding her cases, and also helped Bo learn how to control her succubus nature. But Lauren was bewitched by Bo from the moment she set eyes on her and they quickly started forming intense unresolved sexual tension. The resolution of that tension, however, was tragic. On the Ash's orders, Lauren kept Bo busy so they could get a Mesmer out of town before Bo came to kill him. She did so by confessing her feelings to Bo, and falling into bed with her for a surprisingly explicit lesbian sex scene on cable television. But her guilt over doing so caused her to tell Bo soon after, and made their relationship immediately over.
Dyson and Bo's love comes to a similarly spectacular end. Dyson finally had enough of the lies regarding Bo's mother and calls her to invite her over so he could tell her who her mother is. However, someone had come back to town.
Saskia.
Or as Dyson knew her, Aoife. Bo's mother.
Aoife drains Dyson of his life, intent on enthralling him to her side, when Bo stops her and stabs her. But Dyson's still drained of chi, and not doing well. So Bo used the technique "Saskia" showed her of giving her chi back to their victims, and saved Dyson's life. While helping him recover and bragging about the new trick she learned, Dyson dropped the bomb. He knew who her mother is. He always knew. And he took her to who knew everything about Aoife, Trick.
Trick explains what happened, about how he used his blood to enforce a peace, and how Aoife, a Light Fae of his clan, opposed it. How she was captured and given to the Dark as a peace offering. The abuse she suffered. Bo went to find Aoife to find out what Aoife had to say and what she wanted, only to find her in her own home baking cookies. Cookies laced with a sleeping agent, of course, that Bo ingested and was taken away to Aoife's mansion, where Aoife revealed her plan as it was already being played out: Assassinate the Light Elders and start a war. Her actions killed several Elders and put the Ash in a coma.
Bo tried to stop her, but she soon found her mother was just a good a fighter as she, perhaps better. As Aoife had her pinned up against a railing and was trying to push her over and down a several flights of stairs drop, Bo suddenly got a rush of power. Dyson had gone to a Norn for help, giving the Norn something to give Bo the strength to defeat Aoife. That something, the Norn revealed as she was taking it, was the passion and love he felt for Bo. The memories would remain, but he would never feel them again. At the same time, Trick was using his powers as the Blood King and writing in his own blood a new outcome to the fight. As Bo overpowered her mother with Dyson's strength, tossing her through the balcony but grabbing her at the last moment, she struggled to raise Aoife back up. She was determined not to let her go. But Trick's writing came through to Aoife, and in the first sane motherly voice she had towards Bo, she told her everything would be okay and forced Bo to let her go. It would have been her death, but someone was seen taking her limp body away, so it's unclear if Aoife is still alive or not.
And as nature abhors a vacuum, so does politics. A new Ash would need to be appointed if the current one remained in a coma. And he seems to have plans for making Bo pick a side...
At the time of writing, only the first season and the first two episodes of the second season has been shown in America, though more has been shown in Canada. As the mun is American, she is going by what has been aired on Syfy.
Personality: Independent, determined, sexual. Those three words can sum this little succubus up quite quickly. Her independence can be seen up above, as she did not even think about choosing a side. This can be seen over and over, as she continually works with both sides of the Fae, regardless of what side they've joined. A most notable entry was in the episode Vexed, as Bo met with a Dark Fae, a vampire, for information on Bo's biological mother, who gave her information about another Dark Fae on death row. We've seen her try to help various Light Fae, such as a carrion eater Aswang, but now we see her try to help a Dark Fae on human death row who had been forced by a Mesmer to kill her children. Not only because the Fae was unjustly imprisoned and would be put to death, but because she knew something about her mother.
And this is where a good lead in to determined lies. Bo will not back down from something once she sets her sights on it. Her mother is the best example, as in Vexed she nearly gets herself killed by the Mesmer Vex as she went after him for the murder of the vampire and the Fae on death row. But when he mentions her mother and that he has information on her, she stops and demands more. It can also be seen in Fae Day, with Bo working as hard as she could to keep a Banshee's death wail from coming true. She never gave up on the young man that the Banshee screamed for, never stopped working to try to help the young Light Fae reconcile with his Dark Fae brother, and even called for an Agallamh for peace, even though if the Agallamh broke due to if the brothers couldn't reconcile it would mean her life.
As a succubus, it's only natural that she's sexual. Bo enjoys her sexual life, is happily and openly bisexual, and doesn't let herself get bogged down by any feelings that she shouldn't be enjoying herself. While her previous kills did make her feel guilty as they were people that did not deserve it and she couldn't control herself, once she learns how to control her abilities she uses them as a weapon. Food For Thought was the first episode she started using her ability to feed as a weapon, draining a guard just enough for him to fall unconscious. In the first episode, It's A Fae Fae Fae World, she was seen using her touch to make the waitress so horny she let Bo walk out without paying. Bo uses this constantly throughout the series, as two examples are as she used it in Food For Thought to seduce a scientist for his badge and a voice sample and The Mourning After to get information from various people to figure out why a young sexually healthy woman would write slut shaming words on her walls and kill herself.
Other: Bo has many sexual related abilities, including the ability to feed off the life force (usually named chi in the series) with a kiss, replenishing someone's chi with the same kiss, inciting lust in a person with her touch, and seeing how much lust a person has by their aura. If she's injured, having sex will accelerate her healing greatly. An interesting thing to note is that her eyes will glow blue when she is draining chi with a kiss, so it's not something she can easily hide.
On the non-sexual side, she is stronger and faster than a human being. If she had fed recently, it's very noticeable, even more so if she had fed off a Fae than a human. She's very proficient with bladed weapons, using them to take down the Underfae in her trial and throughout the series. The Lost Girl Wiki hints at more, but at this time only the first season and the first two episodes of the second season have been shown outside of Canada.
First Person (entry type): I think I hate spiders more than ever before. So, there's this Underfae that feeds on paranoia, right? It looks like this big honking nasty spider and that sucker has a bite that stings like Hell. Turns you into a total paranoid bitch with it too. That reminds me, I need to visit Lauren to thank her and apologize to the Harpy. So you turn into a raging bitch and don't want to leave your house and you even try to kill everyone because you think they're after you! All because of this huge ass spider. Nasty thing. But yeah, Lauren turned on the scientist and got it all figured out.
Geez, Lauren. I think Dyson's jealous of her. I mean, I don't see any reason why. She's human, and I'm so not up to trying out my control on her. Last time I tried on a human I still killed her. So Dyson has nothing to worry about. He's still my wolf in knight's armor.
… still. Something about a little scientist not giving up on you is kind of hot.
Third Person: Oh, bubble baths. Bo sank a little deeper, groaning as the hot water soaked deliciously into her aching muscles. Each twinge of a muscle relaxing reminded her of the beating she took. That one was the wall- oh and yes, that one was the sword piercing her. That one was Dyson, but that one was expected and embraced with a wicked grin. Maybe she should be more careful when fighting Fae she didn't recognize, but she had almost got it. The Fae had something she had been hired on to find, and was very unwilling to give it up. And was pretty damn good with a sword, she'll give it that. Many times she would have gone to Dyson just to have sex with him, to enjoy his company and try to break his shell a bit, but this time she really did need the healing he could offer her.
Why was Dyson so intent on keeping her at arms length? It wasn't like she wasn't hot or there were some definite sparks between them. Bo started scrubbing her own arms, intent on making that dried blood flake off. And she couldn't kill him with a kiss as she could a human. So why did he play hot and cold like that?
Maybe she just needed more cleavage. Bo laughed at herself, shaking her head. If she pulled her shirts down any more she really would spill out of them. "A nice fantasy but a little blunt," she chuckled, moving to the next blood patch. Maybe a bottle of wine and Kenzi's thoughts would help her out. Kenzi did have a way of thinking that was totally different than anyone else's. There were probably some old bad movies on the basic cable they got that they could do the bonding girly thing over.
