Just as a friendly reminder-

Breaking the fourth wall is sort of part of the premise of DDD. However, not everyone wants their characters spoiled about their own canon, so for etiquette's sake please run that sort of thing past the other mun first. :) That's what we've been doing, but we had a question about it so I'm reiterating.

(And don't overdo it to the point it gets old, of course. Norry wanted me to add that. ♥)

We haven't had any actual complaints about this so far, so let's keep it that way!

I've been wondering about that, and I have a related question.

Does Wikipedia exist on the DDD internet, and if so, does that mean that characters can research the canon of other people? Or do we just pretend that wiki doesn't have that kind of information and is just about other stuff?

I'm inclined to hope the latter, because it could give people incredible advantages, but I wasn't sure if this had been established as a rule or not.

Not a mod, but I think I can help with this one! Unless a character says "hey, if your character knows my canon, DON'T SAY ANYTHING." or asks for information about them to be minimal, then it's usually a "go for it".

I mean, we find videos on youtube of private canon scenes all the time, wikipedia sort of follows that? As long as it doesn't go against a mun's personal wishes.

Cool! Thanks XD My character is the type to go digging in wikipedia once he learns of its existence, and not want anyone else doing the same thing about him, but the mun likes to make his life miserable, so it's rather relevant. XDDD

Just to make things more complicated, I've been assuming that worlds where the Internet exists have their own Internets that are separate, and those characters can only see DDD!Wikipedia and such if someone from a different world posts a link.

For instance, Karen's Internet is a year behind most of the community, and also has no references anywhere to Pretty Cure. But when other people give her links, she can see pages that don't exist yet for her, and pages that will never exist at all in her world.

That's an interesting way of using it! Unfortunately, since Tyki is from a time before teh internets, I would think that would mean there are no pages at all XDDD Which would be no fun at all.

Yes, it does. Some characters have referred to it ICly as "Stalkerpedia" in fact XD

So far, no one's really used it for an advantage! :) I'm glad for that.

I'd just like to point out that no one ever complies with mun-preference on that sort of thing and it's mildly irritating. I don't know that simply reiterating it will make any difference in that. I haven't made complaints because it's petty, but it does happen a lot, and it's really irritating.

Yeah, but it's impossible to play characters with a secret identity if they can't keep it. Mikaela is the only CR that is keeping me from dropping Bruce for that same reason when I SPECIFICALLY said "don't do the same thing you did with Light"

One would assume that you enforce the policy of "Don't do that"!

I would say, if someone consistently breaks 4th wall without asking and makes no effort to come to a solution with you, we'll ... decide an appropriate punishment as a modteam that norry isn't going to think up right now on the spot. XD

Basically, we're willing to work with anyone that's having issues with a character that's 4th wall sensitive, it's just a matter of letting us know and letting us know that you're attempting to work something out yourself, y ou know?

But yeah, there will definitely be some sort of punishment for people who don't even bother to ask, that's not cool beans.

I mean, I'm not ginoring you just because I don't want to change the rules for one or two people that spoke up out of a comm of like a hundred. the fact that I said anything publically instead of just telling the anon "no, there isn't a rule against it" is better than I considered doing... right?

Oh, I understand, i think it was just some miscommunication. To clarify for everyone else, we want to try and resolve things without slapping rules on you; it's not fair to turn around and make a new rule every time someone complains, which I hope make sense. D:

Not to say this isn't a valid concern, but yeah, we're taking the steps necessary to see it resolved without having to get meanface about it; sadly, with something like this, it's going to have to take some effort on the players behalves to attempt to talk to the people breaking 4th wall without permission themselves!

Step it up, guys. I understand the wanting to be nice, and that getting "meanface" isn't very pleasant - but this is ridiculous. You are mods; you need to make rules when things become a problem, you need to enforce, and you need to stop stepping around things. No, it's not fair to everyone else, but it's what needs to be done when more than a couple people don't understand the common courtesies of roleplay.

And this "but this is a lulz and laid back rp" excuse? It got old fast. Just because the game is made that way does not mean the mods act the same. If you want to maintain a fun environment for the game, the mods need to put their foot down. Because when they don't, this starts to look like a free for all - and honestly, it feels that way.

I can't really speak on behalf of all the moderators, but I don't use that excuse. I think it's a poor reason for not moderating properly. I still hold my ground that I don't think 4th wall stuff is enough of a problem to slap a rule down n it. That doesn't mean we aren't going to do anything.

And that's not to say there wont be a rule in the future! I would at least give the community a chance to correct itself. If the players aren't willing to abide and actually talk to each other before they spoil each other's canons in character, then yeah, of course we'll act. I just remember the center of a lot ofp roblems before was not attempting to fix the problem before slapping a rule on it. It used to piss me off all the goddamn time. Putting a rule on people will not actually fix a problem, surprise surprise. It's sort of the mods enforcing it that does.

And then, there is the problem. Enforcing. Like I said, can't speak on behalf of all the moderators, but I'll certainly be trying but I can't police the whole community myself. Let me speak to the other mods and we'll come up with a plan. Cool your jets, anon, we're here for you, I promise. ♥

Recognizing your issue and attempting to find an appropriate conclusion that doesn't put all the weight on us!

Honestly, I'd recommend making some sort of announcement on your journal asking specifically that people come talk to you about 4th wall stuff before they post it, if it involves your character or your characters canon.

If they continue to do it without your permission, attempt to contact them to ask them to stop or come to some sort of conclusion and if they are unwilling or unreachable, come to us.

I hate to see 4th wall stuff become a problem, but honestly I think it's been way too exhausted. i mean, half the time characters are 4th walled in their intro's; it's just a bad habit that was never kept in check.

Guarantee from this mod that I will be available to help regarding 4th wall intrusive stuff should you need it. ♥

I didn't mean for this to turn into some whole big thing (I'm not that other anon up there...). I just don't want my characters to get their 4th walls broken without my permission because I don't think one of them would handle it very well at all. I'll make an announcement... maybe not any time soon, because it would give away my identity, but some time in the future...

It's no problem what so ever, and the fear is very valid. I know had I been playing a super hero or someone who's identity needed to be concealed for many reasons, I'd be worried that the lack of 4th wall tact on ddd would make them ... just not fun to play! And that's not really cool :\ ♥ I hope the announcement goes well and feel free to IM me about any other concerns, I'd be happy to help you with them. ♥
