J.J. || FAKE || 2/?

[identity profile] jjadams.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Jemmy J. "JJ" Adams
Fandom: FAKE

Character Notes:
History:

Jemmy J. Adams (commonly refered to simply as J.J.) is a New York City police detective. He's around about 30 years old with blue eyes. He studied at the Police Academy with main character Dee Laytner and has a (one-sided) crush on him from that time which is continued throughout most of the manga. They end up working together at the NYPD's 27th Precinct but are not partnered together (to Dee's relief and J.J.'s regret. Dee claims that J.J. was so insistant and annoying at the Academy that after graduation he had to move house.).

J.J. comes from a rich family. He is a good detective and an excellent sharpshoorter sniper (second only in their division to Randy 'Ryo' Maclean - Dee's partner). Prior to working at the 27th he was working exclusively as a sniper on the force for six months before being reassigned. He can also operate other techincal policing equiment such as that for performing traces. His own partner on the force is Drake Parker with whom he has a friendly enough relationship, but J.J. only has eyes for Dee and is jealous of the fact that Dee much prefers Ryo. Even so, his enthusiasim to help the object of his affection never diminishes. For quite some time J.J. makes a nuisance of himself with Dee, trying to kiss him or being in his face about being with him instead of Randy (or anyone else). This is used more for comic effect in the story than in a serious way.

J.J. is a secondary character in the manga. His most prominent roles were where, on one case, J.J. gives away Randy's heritage as part-Japanese inadvertantly putting him in danger from a killer who is targeting Japanese people and in 'Act 15' we find out more of his past. Max Fork is a friend of his from his academy days who calls J.J. 'direct and idealistic'. He turns out to be a crooked cop - changing from the good cop J.J. knew after the tragic death of Max's wife.

Some years later it is shown that J.J. finally accepts Dee is with Ryo and moves on, ending up asking (a kind of reluctant) Drake on a date.

Personality:

Idealistic and direct in general, J.J.'s personality is hyperactive, enthusiastic, upbeat and positive with a heart of gold. He has great belief and faith in people. Although he can seem air-headed, a little ditzy, naive and trusting, he does listen and is paying more attention and is more serious than people assume from his general manner - this was shown most when his former friend and crooked cop, Max Fork, betrayed him and almost killed him. He can stand up to people when it counts, even when his life is in danger as in this particular instance.

Hello?

Hello...?

I don't know if any of you can read this but the name's J.J. Well, Detective Jemmy J. Adams, if you want to get all offical and stuff. I work for the NYPD but don't let that scare you away! I'll be fair with you guys if you're not breaking the law or doing anything bad.

Not that I think you're doing anything bad! I'm sure you're all law abiding citizens and that some of those things I read here are just made up, right? Some of you are writing a book or a screenplay or something and posting it online, yeah. That's cool and all!

So, I just wanted to introduce myself and I'm pressing 'post' now so I hope you see this and reply and--

Third Person:

J.J. was bored. It was late and Drake had gone to get some Chinese take-away food because they'd both felt hungry and their shift didn't end for many hours yet. The night was crawling by and JJ started daydreaming about Dee - or was that late-night-dreaming? Dee... He always looked so handsome and heroic and... suddenly Randy's face swung into view. J.J. made a face himself. Why were they partners? He should be partners with Dee! In more ways than one...

A goofy smile was on his face and the elbow he was leaning on slipped along the table and he almost fell off his chair. Startled by a pile of paperwork fluttering to the ground, J.J. sighed and bent down to pick them up. "Urgh... Dammit! I just had these sorted out!" He complained to the air.

It was then that he heard a muffled voice. He looked up and listened. Speaking could still be heard. It seemed to come from the filing cabinet...

J.J. blinked and then frowned. No way anybody was inside of there unless they were the world's tiniest person. And even then they'd have to be slim as a sheet of paper. Then it struck him suddenly that somebody must have left a radio in the drawer and it had somehow switched itself on. Well, better turn it off, he thought to himself and he found the key, opening the drawer.

In the midst of the files he found the source of the noises. It was not a radio - it looked like a slimline laptop computer but unlike any he'd seen before. It was certainly more advanced than the old desktop heap that was sitting on his desk.

Curious, he brought it out and opened it up. Voices.... and words kept appearing on the screen as if someone was in the midst of an online conversation. He shut it, thinking that he probably shouldn't look. Those things were private... Then he heard a voice. It sounded like Dee!

J.J. opened the laptop again and peered closer at the screen. What was going on here...?

Current Characters: Aria Montgomery

Character: Ginevra Molly Weasley
Fandom: Harry Potter
Character Notes:
History: Ginny Weasley was born on 11th August 1981, the youngest of seven children born to Arthur and Molly and the first girl born into the Weasley family for some generations. Growing up, Ginny learned very quickly how to stand her ground and also became accustomed to the fact that the family didn't have a whole lot of money. And as soon as she was old enough to understand, she was simply desperate to attend Hogwarts - not least because as she got older, she found herself with fewer of her brothers around during term-time.

On September 1st 1992, Ginny finally got her wish and joined her siblings (save for Charlie and Bill) in going to Hogwarts. As with all of her brothers before her, she was sorted into Gryffindor. Her first year was made more difficult than anticipated for two reasons: firstly, that she had begun to develop a crush on her brother Ron's best friend - the one and only Harry Potter - and secondly, she had come into possession of an enchanted diary that turned out to be a vessel for a young Voldemort, then still going by the name Tom Riddle. Through the course of the year, Riddle possessed Ginny several times in order to open the Chamber of Secrets and unleash the basilisk that resided within. Towards the end of the school year, Riddle lured Ginny to the Chamber so that he could sacrifice her and become fully human once more. Fortunately, Harry was able to destroy the diary and Ginny was saved.

Ginny's second year was marginally less eventful, although her experiences the previous year made her more susceptible to the effects of the Dementors. She continued to crush on Harry and was unable to get past her shyness around him until the summer before her third year when, following Hermione's advice, she began to relax around Harry and let more of her true personality show. Her third year also saw her start to turn her attention to other boys, although platonically so at first - she accompanied Neville to the Yule Ball, agreeing to do so before Harry made a move to ask her. Though she was jealous over Harry's interest in Cho Chang, Ginny soon found another boy to capture her interest: Michael Corner. With her new relationship, her confidence around Harry grew - but darker times were on the way.

With Voldemort's return to power and the iron rule of new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher Dolores Umbridge, Ginny joined the secret group formed by Harry that was designed to let them learn the defensive magic Umbridge refused to teach them. It was she who came up with the name Dumbledore's Army. Her fourth year also saw Ginny join the Gryffindor Quidditch team as Seeker after Harry, Fred and George were banned. But it wasn't until her father was attacked by Voldemort's pet snake Nagini that Ginny became more involved with the fight. She and Harry bonded over the fact that they had both been possessed by Voldemort and although he tried to dissuade her, she was part of the group that went to the Ministry on what they thought was a rescue mission. The ensuing fight with the Death Eaters saw her break her ankle, but with the help of members of the Order of the Phoenix the group managed to escape. At the end of her fourth year, Ginny dumped Michael - who had been sulking since the Gryffindor vs. Ravenclaw Quidditch match - and started dating Dean Thomas.

Re: Ginny Weasley // Harry Potter // 2/?

[identity profile] fair-weasley.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
At the start of Ginny's fifth year, she was inducted into the "Slug Club", a select group chosen by new Potions teacher Horace Slughorn after he witnessed her casting her signature Bat-Bogey Hex at Zacharias Smith. She tried out for a Chaser position on the Quidditch team and easily made the roster. But her relationship with Dean was causing tensions with Ron and the siblings grew frosty toward one another, even more so once Ron started dating Lavender. But when Ron was accidentally poisoned on his birthday things improved between them and Ginny's relationship with Dean was slowly but surely falling apart. In the April of her fifth year, she finally split up with Dean and instead began spending more time with Ron and Harry. This culminated in Ginny and Harry kissing while celebrating Gryffindor's win of the Quidditch Cup. With Ron's grudging consent, the couple dated for a brief time but following a Death Eater attack on Hogwarts during which Dumbledore was killed, Harry broke things off with Ginny as he prepared to take down Voldemort once and for all.

That summer, Ginny remained at home with her mother while her father and brothers assisted in transporting Harry from the Dursleys' home. She returned to Hogwarts, now under the rule of Snape, and revived Dumbledore's Army with the help of Neville and Luna. During the Battle of Hogwarts she was initially forbidden from joining the fight, due to the fact that she was underage, and was sent to wait in the Room of Requirements. However, when it transpired that Harry needed the room to find a Horcrux, Ginny was able to join in with the fight. She was nearly killed by Bellatrix LeStrange but her mother, Molly, stepped in and saved her.

When the war was over, Ginny and Harry were free to pursue their relationship. Ginny went on to be a professional Quidditch player for the Holyhead Harpies for several years, after which she retired to start a family and became senior Quidditch correspondent for the Daily Prophet. She and Harry had three children together: James Sirius, Albus Severus, and Lily Luna.

But all of this is in this Ginny's future, as she is being brought in from the same timeline as the rest of the bb!cast.

Personality: Growing up with six brothers and as the youngest of seven children has left Ginny tough and more than able to stand up to both her friends and enemies. Though she was initially shy and withdrawn around Harry, away from her crush she is a confident, personable girl who has a wicked sense of humour and who does not cry easily. She also, however, has a wicked temper and this can lead her to be quite mean to the people who upset her.

As with her brothers, Ginny is a keen flyer and Quidditch enthusiast. She has been borrowing her brothers' brooms in secret since she was six years old, after her mother forbade her to fly. Indeed, of any of her brothers she takes most after Fred and George, with that same mischievous streak and knack for talking her way out of trouble. She also, as is fitting for a Gryffindor, incredibly brave and gets frustrated when she is treated as incapable just because she is the youngest.

As she gets older, Ginny shakes off her shyness around boys and is among the first of the main cast to start dating. As with everything else, she's not afraid to go after what she wants, though her techniques aren't always successful as her Valentine's Day poem to Harry in her first year clearly demonstrates.

Other: Ginny's Patronus, once she learns to use it, takes the form of a horse. Her "signature spell" is the Bat-Bogey hex, which she eventually becomes incredibly adept with.

First Person (entry type): [The text appears handwritten, fairly neat or at least as neat as a nine year old who isn't really trying can be. It looks to have been written quickly and with some pressure behind the quill.]

It's not fair. Ron's going to be going to Hogwarts in September, and then I'll be the only one who doesn't get to go. Or, well. Bill's already left and Charlie's finishing soon but that's different cus they got to go already. Why do I have to stay home just cus I'm the littlest? I'll be ten in August and that's totally old enough to go. It's stupid, that's what it is. [The full stop is rather larger and darker than the rest, as though the quill has been pressed to the same spot for a while]

Ugh, mum's calling. Probably found another list of chores to make us do so we don't get into trouble. I'd better go before Ron calls all the less horrible chores and leaves me with the icky ones.

Third Person: Ginny carefully crept down the stairs, pausing to make sure her mother hadn't heard her. While she sometimes hated that things were so quiet during term-time, she had to admit that it did make it easier for her to sneak around when there were fewer brothers to catch her. She just hoped that Ron hadn't decided to have a flying session of his own - the other downside to most of her brothers being at school, there were fewer brooms for her to borrow.

Keeping as quiet as she could, Ginny stole a glance towards the kitchen where she knew her mother was likely to be. Sure enough, Molly had busied herself keeping the kitchen in some sort of order and Ginny was free to continue making her way to the broom cupboard. Taking care not to bump into anything or otherwise do anything that could alert her mother to the fact that she was even downstairs at all - and with Molly, it didn't take much - Ginny quickly made her way to the cupboard and carefully opened it, grinning as her eyes took in the broom she was after. Technically she wasn't allowed to fly but for the past three years or so she had been teaching herself in secret.

Glancing over her shoulder to make sure neither her mother nor Ron were nearby, Ginny carefully took the broom and headed for the back door. Even still on the ground she enjoyed the feel of the broom in her hands, anticipating the sensation of freedom she always found when she was flying. On the ground she was simply Ginny Weasley, baby of the family and treated as such by her parents and brothers. In the air, however, she was free of their over-protective ways - and until she was old enough to start at Hogwarts, those brief hours spent flying would have to be enough.

Character: Kato
Fandom: the Green Hornet (2011)

[identity profile] exec-associate.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
History: We don't know a ton about Kato's past, but we do get a basic outline. He was born in Shanghai, China, and his parents died when he was four, after which he was placed in an orphanage. When he was twelve he ran away from the orphanage and joined his friends on the street, presumably as part of a gang, though that isn't explicitly stated.

Fast-forward to many years later, Kato's in his late 20's or early 30's and working in L.A. as a car mechanic. He does some work on a '65 Chrysler for James Reid, the owner of the newspaper and media conglomerate the Daily Sentinel, who is impressed enough with the results that he hires him on full time as his personal mechanic and coffee maker. Around this time, Reid secretly goes into collusion with D.A. Scanlon and Chudnofsky, the latter being the underground crime boss of all L.A. Kato works for several years on his cars, modifying them to have offensive capabilities.

Then Reid, unknown to his son Britt, his staff, and to Kato, decides to straighten up and stop letting Scanlon break the news. Scanlon retaliates by staging his death, and it's thought for most of the movie that Reid had died from an allergic reaction to a bee sting. After Reid dies, Britt inherits the business, but as an irresposnible, partying playboy has little interest in having anything to do with it. What does interest him is waking up and finding that his coffee tastes awful, and nowhere near as delicious as he's used to.

Britt finds out that he'd fired Kato when he'd fired the rest of his father's staff, and hires him back on again. Thus ensues a lasting broship the likes of which have not been seen since the other broship Ca and I play, Bruce and Dexter. Anyway, they bond over calling the deceased Mr. Reid a dick, and over how Kato is good at every cool skill known to man. (This is not a joke. His list of talents includes: ridiculous car modifications, martial arts, stunt driving, drawing, playing the piano, and it's implied he's a good basketball player. His one weakness is that he can't swim.) They get pretty damn drunk together, and in a fit of intoxicated brilliance, decide to get theirs back at Mr. Reid by cutting the head off the memorial statue that stands over his grave.

During this act of vandalism, Britt spies a couple getting mugged, and decides to intervene. Just as he's about to get his ass kicked, Kato saves the day with his flaming hot martial arts skills, and when they get back home they find out that they were caught on the news. The news, however, only seemed to care about their vandalization of the statue, and didn't cover their crime fighting at all. Britt convinces Kato of his brilliant idea: fight crime by posing as a fellow criminal! It would take care of so many common pesky superhero problems, and get the police after them, too. Clearly this had to happen.

Kato agrees, and forced news coverage the Daily Sentinel later, the Green Hornet is born. They decide to go after Chudnofsky, the Russian crime boss, unaware that Britt's father had been in collusion with him. To that end, when Lenore Case shows up as the temp secretary for the Daily Sentinel, Britt hires her on full time because she is hot is Cameron Diaz has a minor in criminology and can "predict" the Green Hornet's actions. In other words, she can tell them what a smart criminal would do. They follow their advice and start by busting up small time thugs and meth labs, planning to work their way to the stop of the chain.

The real conflict begins because Lenore is their Yoko. They both want to date her, and she's unimpressed by Britt's over-the-top flirtatious advances, instead being drawn to Kato's quiet understanding and clever pen tricks. She agrees to go out to dinner with Kato, but in order to keep the peace, he lies to Britt and says he's going to have drinks with a friend when he leaves to see her. During their date, Lenore reveals that mobsters frequently invite rivals to "peaceful negotiating" as a cover to kill them. Kato returns from dinner, and gets into a knock-down drag out argument with Britt over whether he's a sidekick or a full partner. TVs are destroyed, scooters are ridden into people, nasty hand gestures are made, and Kato is thrown into a pool and told to get off the property.

[identity profile] exec-associate.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Needless to say, he does. Separately, they are drawn to the same event: Britt learns that Scanlon is corrupt, and agrees to meet with him to discuss a potential arrangement at the Genpachi Hibachi restaurant. Kato checks the Green Hornet email address to discover an email from Chudnofsky offering a million dollars for the Green Hornet to kill Britt Reid at the Genpachi Hibachi. Kato sends off his agreement, and all the pieces fall in place.

The movie draws to a climax with a truly off the rails fight/chase sequence. It's not even worth describing because it needs to be seen to be believed. The end result is that the backstory with Reid, Chudnofsky and Scanlon is revealed. Britt forgot to press record when he was taping Scanlon's incriminating confession, but Scanlon gets killed anyway, and while Britt ends up shot, their secret identities as Green Hornet and partner remain concealed.

From everyone but Lenore, that is, who finally finds out that the reason she's predicted everything the Green Hornet does so perfectly is because she's their mastermind. The final scene is them restoring the head to James Reid's statue, in honor of his attempt to come clean, even to the extent that it got him killed.

Personality: On the surface stoic and non-reactive, Kato in fact is a little more complex than he appears. There's the strong implication that he's had far from an easy life, and he isn't afraid to stand up for what he feels he deserves. Strong-willed but generally easy-going, overall he's a fierce bro who doesn't afraid of anything.

In general, he's diplomatic and agreeable. He hesitates to say anything bad about Britt's father without repeated urging, and avoids outright conflict for as long as possible. We can see this both when he lies to Britt about his date with Lenore, and his verbal warnings during arguments not to push him any farther. There's no doubt that he was a former gang member personality wise: he doesn't hesitate to get involved in physical conflict, whether it's to defend his interests or to save Britt. He has a small hint of an ego, and accepts compliments as a given, admitting out loud that he is a genius.

My personal interpretation is that he is somewhat at a loss when he's on his own. Although he's an extremely capable person, and far from dependent on anyone in the truest sense, gang behavior (especially Chinese gang behavior) instills a strong idea of camaraderie in its members. He calls Britt and he shandi - Mandarin for brothers - and completely sticks behind it. No matter what kind of fight he and Britt get into, he will never abandon him and in fact forgives him easily.

The last note worth mentioning is that he's kind of an average guy at heart. He has a messy apartment, plain clothes when left to his own devices, speaks Chinese when drunk, and calls their first car chase the most amazing moment of his life. He sings along to Gangster Paradise with Britt, listens to bad Chinese pop while working, and makes a mistake with the hornet gun gas. Kato has a lot of impressive skills and is nothing if not calm in a crisis, but at the end of the day he's a loyal guy who happens to be able to slow time down or some shit when his heart gets pumping.

Other: This is movie canon only and I won't be using anything from the radio show or comics at all. For one thing, Kato goes through about six different nationalities, so let's just stick with Chinese. Which, I should mention: Kato does not speak English fluently, and sometimes misses words and so forth. He also lapses into Mandarin on occasion, which I'll try not to maul too completely when that comes up.

First Person: [The audio clicks on, and with it, a voice speaking in a strong Chinese accent.]

I am not one for talking, but there is something that I must get off my chest. You all... you seem to be very busy with your lives. But on here, you make a lot of trouble with each other, no matter how busy you are. Don't any of you ever not want trouble?

Me, I try to live a quiet life. I am a mechanic. I make coffee. That is what I do. The rest of you, what do you do?

Britt, there is something I must speak to you about. Please contact me when you can.

Third Person: Kato did a lot that went behind the scenes. He didn't need a ton of appreciation, really, just some, and he wasn't vocal about asking for it. Certain things were expected and understood and he expected Britt, and everyone else but mostly Britt, to follow that.

Largely that went okay. Kato made his coffee, ignored any and all comments about labels being in Chinese, and backed him up when he needed backing up. Kato kept his cars in top shape and made the coolest shit possible for it, and their crime-fighting life in general. They were brothers, and it wasn't just a word. It meant certain things, like automatic forgiveness.

Right now, though, it mostly meant nodding his head along to "Who We Are" by Ke$ha and barreling down the street at sixty miles an hour. Kato squeaked through a stop light with ease, just missing it turning red. He listened to Britt's excited chatter as he drove, inserted a comment when needed, and made mental notes on plans for their hit on Chudnofsky's main bookie. It wasn't too much longer before they were at their destination.

The car squealed faintly as he made a perfectly timed, if abrupt, stop next to the drive through speaking box. "Welcome to Wendy's, I'll be right with you," chirped the bored employee through the speaker.

"What do you want?" Kato asked, turning to Britt. "We need French fries. French fries with sauce."

"Yeah, man, fuckin' sauce. That is the best idea. And I want, like, at least two cheeseburgers, it is just the time of day for that, you know? Cheeseburgers."

"I know. It is."

Character: Éowyn
Fandom: The Lord of the Rings*
Character Notes:

*Please note that the character's history would be mostly based from the movie versions of The Two Towers and Return of the King, although information relevant to the character which were not explicitly shown in the movie (such as the Houses of Healing moments between her and Faramir) would be taken from the book.

History: She was the daughter of Éomund and Théodwyn, who in turn was the sister of Théoden, King of Rohan. At a young age she and her brother Éomer were orphaned when their father was killed by Orcs and their mother died of grief, and King Théoden took them in and raised them as his own. Years later, and unknown to most the King had fallen under the power of Saruman and his mind further poisoned by his adviser Grima Wormtongue, rendering him more a puppet on strings than a man. When Théodred, the King's son, was brought home near death after being ambushed by Orcs bearing the mark of the White Wizard, Éomer suggested to Théoden that they needed to fight against Saruman; however this was refuted by Grima, claiming that the White Wizard was their friend and ally. Éomer accused of Grima as being a servant of Saruman, but the King's adviser was cunning and able to banish Éomer from the Kingdom of Rohan by procuring a signed order from Théoden himself.

Théodred succumbed to death, and this news was brought to the King by none other than Éowyn, who showed much sorrow when Théoden barely acknowledged her presence, much less her news. Grima approached her while she was grieving, but she shunned his advances, seemingly repulsed by him.

[identity profile] zarahjoyce.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Gandalf, Legolas, Gimli, and Aragorn then arrived at Edoras, where Saruman's hold over Théoden was exposed and removed by Gandalf. For his treachery Grima was to be killed by none other than the King, but Aragorn intervened. Grima then left Rohan only to return to the side of his Master Saruman.

After Théodred's burial, two children who were survivors from an Orc attack at a village arrived at Edoras, and from there the King realized that the enemies were getting closer, more brutal with their advances against Rohan. Théoden decided to move his people to Helm's Deep rather than meet these attacks head on, contrary to the advise given to him by Gandalf and Aragorn. It was Théoden's belief that his army could protect the people better with Helm's Deep's impenetrable walls and strong defenses. Gandalf, not pleased with the King's decision, decided to head towards where Éomer and his men were in order to bring them back to Rohan to fight for it.

It was while preparing for their departure that Éowyn first talked to Aragorn, who was able to tame Théodred's horse with an Elf's language. Another encounter had Aragorn learning that Éowyn was skilled in using a sword, and that she feared a cage, "to stay behind bars until use and old age accept them, and all chance of valor is gone beyond recall or desire." Aragorn assured her that that would not be her fate, perhaps marking the beginning of her having strong feelings for him.

During the journey, the people of Rohan were assaulted by Orcs. Despite her desire to fight, Théoden urged her to lead the women and children to Helm's Deep, while he and the others stay to slay the enemy. Éowyn successfully brought the people to safety. Later, she found out from Gimli that Aragorn had fallen during the battle. Her expression betrayed her sadness over the event - and her joy, too, when he returned to them very much alive.

That night, the battle at Helm's Deep occurred, with Éowyn safely hidden against her wishes. Despite Grima's revelation of where Helm's Deep's weakness lay and the Orcs' subsequent exploitation of it, Théoden and the others were able to defend his people, more so when Gandalf returned along with Éomer and his men. Afterward, they were all able to safely return to Edoras.

During the celebration of their victory, Théoden noticed his niece's feelings towards Aragorn, and expressed his approval. However, peace did not settle long. Soon, Gondor was threatened by attacks from Sauron's army and called for Rohan's help. Despite Théoden's earlier assertion that Gondor did not come to assist them in their time of need, in the end he chose to answer the call. In the end, he rallied his remaining men and even sent Gamling and Éomer to gather more soldiers, all for Gondor's benefit.

Éowyn rode with the men to the encampment, claiming that she was doing it because it was tradition, but in truth she was planning something else. Aragorn was able to see through her ruse, but did not say anything. As Merry had earlier offered his services to Théoden and was named an esquire of Rohan, Éowyn was later seen fixing his armor and urging him to have his sword sharpened. Éomer did not take Merry seriously, leading Éowyn to question him as to why the hobbit couldn't fight for those he loved, when he had as much to fight for as Éomer - while seemingly not talking about Merry entirely. Her brother was able to pick up on this, and warned her that war was no place for a woman.

Later that night, Éowyn caught Aragorn as he was about to leave for the mountains. She tried to make him stay, and when he asked why she came with them Éowyn all but admitted to her feelings for him - and Aragorn, as gently as he could, told her that he would not be able to give her what she wanted from him. This, perhaps, cemented what had only been a vague idea before.

The next day, the Rohirrim left the encampment and moved toward Gondor - with Éowyn, disguised as a man, along with them. Only Merry knew about it.

In battle, Éowyn and Merry fought together - until they got separated, and Éowyn saw that her wounded Uncle was about to be killed by the Witch-King of Angmar. Bravely, she slew the fell beast it rode on by cutting off its head. The Witch-King retaliated by attacking Éowyn until he had hit her shield, breaking it as well as her arm. Just as he was about to kill her, Merry managed to stab him, which gave Éowyn enough time to kill him, thereby fulfilling the prophecy that the Witch-King's end would not come from the hands of a man.

Éowyn returned to the fallen Théoden, and was able to see him perish and grieve for him before succumbing to her own grave injuries. After the battle had been won, Éomer was able to spot her in the fields and thought her dead - only for Aragorn to heal her. She was then left at the Houses of Healing to fully recuperate.

It was here that she met Faramir, Captain of Gondor, and soon the two fell in love. Before they left the Houses of Healing, Faramir asked her to marry him, and she accepted. Later, they were seen together at Aragorn's coronation as King of Gondor. Faramir was named Prince of Ithilien and one of Aragorn's chief commanders, and his line the Stewards of Gondor. Éowyn, his wife, was to be called the Lady of Ithilien.

Personality: Proud, brave and willful, Éowyn was the epitome of a true Rohirrim. She and her brother share many characteristics with the soldiers born in Rohan, but as Éowyn was born a woman, she could not "properly" and freely express them, and longed to obtain honor the way Éomer could. The siblings weren't shown to be explicitly close, which might be due to them not spending a lot of time together - Éomer was the third Marshal of Riddermark, whereas Éowyn was forced to stay home and look after their aging uncle. They still shared a great bond, with Éomer trying his best to look after her - first by showing great insight into her thoughts and consequently warning her about the horrors of war on the eve of battle, and next by watching over her when she was struck down by the Witch King.

Grima called her 'cold', but this was because she despised him, and was therefore unable to bestow him any affection or warmth the way she did to those she considered her friends. She could be caring and encouraging especially to Merry, with whom she was able to see herself in, for a Hobbit was not treated as an equal to men despite his desire to help. She loved Théoden like a father, and cared for him especially when he was under Saruman's influence. She also followed his orders despite them being against her wishes. She could also be described as lonely. Outside of her brother, her cousin, and her uncle, Éowyn was bereft of a confidante in Rohan. With Éomer banished, Théodred dead, and Théoden possessed, it was easy for her to give in to sorrow and loneliness. And it was because of this loneliness that it became easy for her to fall in love with Aragorn, the only man who was willing to listen to her and make her feel empowered.

She was also idealistic and foolhardy especially when it came to battle. Her brother had called her out on this, saying that she knew as much of war as Merry - which wasn't saying a lot. Éowyn always asserted that she knew how to fight, but without experience this wasn't a guarantee that she would survive if she were to be caught in one. Of course, it would be impossible for her to experience fighting in wars when her Uncle and brother always hindered her from participating, something she decided to go against by donning a man's armor and disguising herself. In this, she could be considered clever and cunning. But in war she was able to prove her worth as a warrior capable of defending herself with a shield and killing enemies left and right. Her bravery even led her to victory against the Witch King itself, which was no easy feat, considering how ridiculously powerful this enemy was.

[identity profile] zarahjoyce.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
First Person (entry type): I had sought death and glory in battle. I had watched my beloved King and Uncle perish before my eyes, and longed for the moment when I too, will no longer linger in this world and join him. I had destroyed that which no living man could ever hope to destroy - what more could they ask of anyone, more so a woman? Surely renown will be mine, now. I should have perished with honor.

And yet I still breathed. Lord Aragorn had saved me, pulled me back from the clutches of death. Did he truly not know what I wanted? Perhaps not. And yet I could not find it in my heart to loathe him.

How could I?

The day grows dim and my eyes, tired. Curse this weakness! Curse these wounds! For now I shall sleep and regain my strength, and tomorrow I shall demand for the warden to let me go. I have been idle for too long.

Third Person:

The beacons are lit! said Lord Aragorn. Gondor calls for aid!

And Rohan would answer, Théoden King had said.

Truly, in that moment Éowyn had never been prouder of her Uncle, and her people. Here they were, barely recovered from the assault of the enemy - and now this! Death called them once more, its threat alive and pulsing, and yet fear it not they did.

And in the midst of all the activities of men preparing for a hard journey and a cruel battle, she had made her decision. The last battle had seen her hidden and waiting. This she would not allow to happen again.

"My brother asks for a second set of armor," she said to the one in charge of the battle suits. He was but a child, several winters younger than her. Surely she would have no trouble here. "I am to deliver it to him."

He looked startled, and for a second did not seem to know what to do, what to make of her request. Éowyn lifted her chin and glared. "Quickly, lad. Do you desire to be the cause of his delay?"

And soon, the second set of armor was handed to her. "It's not much, my lady. I fear I only have the ones made for soldiers, not--"

"This would do," she replied, testing the suit's weight in her arms and finding it acceptable. "Yes. This would certainly do." Éowyn nodded and turned, ready to leave the armory, when she felt eyes on her and she looked to find Gamling staring at her with a grim expression on his face.

"My lady," he said with a slight bow. His lips thinned, but he kept them shut.

At once she knew what he was thinking. "Have you something to say?" she dared him.

He stepped closer, his eyes still on the suit. "Surely Lord Éomer would require something stronger, more worthy of him. If he is looking for one, that is, aside from that which he already wears." The doubt in his tone spoke volumes, but Éowyn would not falter. She refused to.

"No," she said, already moving towards the door. "There is no need for that. He will wear this with pride, and honor, like all the other riders of Rohan will. There is no shame in a soldier's simple suit."

"But, my lady--"

Éowyn paused, and turned. If Gamling were to tell her brother or her King, then this would be over. Perhaps she wouldn't even be allowed to ride with them to the encampment. No! Banish the thought.

"Speak of this to no one," she said. An absolute order from the niece of Théoden King.

[identity profile] detectscience.livejournal.com 2011-02-02 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
History:

After a car accident claimed Ema’s parents, she was raised by her much older sister, Lana. For awhile, things were great. That all changed one day when Ema was about fourteen years old. There was an award ceremony at the prosecution office, and Ema waited for it to finish in Lana’s office, which was shared between her and Detective Gant. A thunderstorm caused a power outage at about the same time, which created a perfect opportunity for a dangerous serial killer to escape questioning. Joe Darke, the serial killer, exit pursued by Neil Marshall, a prosecutor. Joe Darke tried to hide out in Lana’s office. Ema was still waiting in there. It doesn’t take a genius to add up two plus two and get trauma.

Not murder, though. Due to an unfortunate series of events, Ema, Neil, and Joe ended up unconscious on the floor. Detective Gant returned at about this point, and proceeded to solve the problem. Namely, by murdering Neil with a pointed statue and making it look like Ema did it. When Lana entered the room, Gant blackmailed her with that information and got her to re-arrange the crime scene to frame Joe Darke instead.

For two years, the true events of what would become known as SL-9 remained hidden. In the meantime, life went on. Ema repressed most of what happened to her, and picked up a liking for science. Gant got himself promoted to chief of police for catching Joe Darke. Lana got promoted to chief prosecutor, and began to act very coldly to Ema. Still, it wasn’t until the February when Ema was almost sixteen that all the hanging threads in the air started tying together.

Lana was arrested for murdering a detective, and Ema went to Phoenix Wright for help. More specifically, she went to her sister’s old friend Mia Fey for help, not realizing that she’d been dead for a few months by the time she showed up. Even so, Phoenix took the case and Ema went along with him as his assistant. He not only proved that Lana didn’t murder the detective, he also proved that Ema didn’t accidentally murder Neil Marshall all those years ago. Gant was the man behind the murders, and the blackmail, and the forged evidence plaguing the department.

Ema and Lana repaired their relationship, even though Lana served some time for her role in forging the evidence. After the cases were solved, Ema went to study forensics with a family friend in Europe. She visited Japanifornia on occasion, even pitching in to help Mr. Edgeworth once. Still, for the most part, she stayed in Europe, studying. She came back for good to take the test that’d make her an official forensic scientist.

She failed that test and ended up a detective. So much for a lifelong ambition. This, naturally, lead to a slight attitude adjustment, as well as a habit for munching on snackoos when she was frustrated. It only got worse when she was forced to work for Klavier Gavin. Not only was he more sparkly than a Twilight vampire, Klavier was the one who stripped Mr. Wright of his badge a few years ago. Needless to say, she didn’t like him very much.

When Apollo Justice started investigating his second case, Ema didn’t give him the time of day until he proved he knew Mr. Wright. That roadbump out of the way, she gave him as much assistance as scientifically possible. New devices were tested, DS styluses were abused, and snackoos were used as projectile weapons. Most importantly, Ema successfully tested numerous objects for poison in the very first case used in the Jurist System. This helped prove Kristoph Gavin guilty of murdering Drew Misham, attempting to murder Drew’s daughter, Vera, and being the source of the forged evidence that got Mr. Wright disbarred.

Personality:

Those who can; do. Those who can’t; call it forensic science anyway. That’s just one of Ema’s many coping mechanisms for having lost her chance at her dream job. Other choice methods include crunching on snackoos when frustrated, grumbling and glaring her way through investigations, and ordering new forensics equipment to test it out. She doesn’t like being interrupted while working, especially by shiny, happy defense attorneys who don’t know any better. She’s often in a bad mood, and that bad mood tends to get made worse depending on the situation. If she messes up the investigation or Klavier’s involved, expect the snackoos to start flying. She’s at her angriest when Klavier makes a fool out of her on a case, which deftly combines the two.

There’s still evidence of Ema’s inner sixteen year old, if you know where to look. Science makes her happy, and investigating using it makes her even happier. Unfortunately for her, her interest in science is directly proportional to her lack of talent. She still doesn’t know relatively simple things, like what unit of measurement is used for gun calibers. She has to consult the instruction manual when using the items she borrows from the department. She breaks things in crime scenes. Still, when discussing science, expect an instantaneous shift in mood from grumpy to ecstatic.

For all her grumbling, she’s quick to call people friends. She considers Apollo one after a single day of investigating. Granted, science was involved, but it’s the principle of the thing. While she doesn’t quite fangirl the way she used to, she still harbors a deep admiration for Mr. Wright and presumably Mr. Edgeworth. In particular, she outright states that everything she has now is because of Mr. Wright. In addition, she prefers her prosecutors “cool of wit and furrowed of brow”. More simmerous, less glimmerous.

Even with her grumpiness, Ema’s still very idealistic. She’ll complain about Klavier until she’s blue in the face, but she’s found a way to be happy with where she is. It doesn’t matter what her actual title is, because she knows what’s inside her heart. She still thinks it’s important to help as many people as possible. She’s remarkably well-adjusted, despite her life not turning out as she planned. She’s occasionally rather brilliant, but most often fairly lazy about it. Even though she’ll never have all the answers, her enthusiasm for science remains.

More than anything else, Ema’s grown up. Just not entirely.

Other:

She’s being taken from DDD canon, with all the changes intact! She’ll be remembering her ([livejournal.com profile] makinganote)’s past CR. Basically, consider this a timeskip. If there’s any changes to the timeline due to the AUing, she’d know about them but keep mum. The important part is that she’s more or less treating Apollo, Klavier, and other AJ cast as if she’s at the end of the game.

First Person (entry type):

Forensics has a new fingerprinting solution coming in today. If someone murders someone else in the next twenty-four hours, I could probably help them test it out. Knowing this district, they’ll probably be wearing gloves at the time and make fingerprinting impossible, but it never hurts to be optimistic. It could be worse, as the evidence shows. It could be the dreaded double whammy of gloves and names written in blood. Scientific study suggests that those two elements combine in a full 60% of all cases in the last five years.

Even useless prints would be better than today’s job. The fop tricked me into sorting his fan mail into categories. Looks like I’ll be working overtime.

Of course, he probably didn’t know he left his MyBook logged in before he left.

Third Person:

It rained the morning Ema first went to a crime scene. Coincidentally, it also rained the first time she was part of a crime scene. This time, she had a small badge clipped to the pocket of her lab coat. The badge already tried and failed to gleam in the morning drizzle. The badge she wanted would be plastic, and laminated, and look about as good as her passport photo. At least she had a lab coat and not a trench coat like Lana’s. For one thing, it helped her stick out from the ambling crowd of officers. More importantly, it just made her feel like she belonged. She could deal with this. She wasn’t where she wanted to be, but she was here, and maybe she could just lie and say she was part of the forensics team like this.

They didn’t buy it. It was worth a shot. With that cunning plan shot down like the murder victim in question, Ema got to work. She huddled under her pink umbrella, a tiny button still stubbornly attached to her purse. When it was there, she could pretend that this was another place and time, where prosecutors had weird chess sets and wallets could be taken from where they lay on the ground.

Éomer | Lord of the Rings (2/5)

[identity profile] fairandbright.livejournal.com 2011-02-02 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Notes:

History:

Éomer was born in the year 2991 of the Third Age of Middle-Earth in the land of Rohan, known as the Riddermark or the Mark to those who dwell there. It was also called the home of the Horse-lords, as the lives of its people were dependent on horses. Their army consisted of men all on horseback, and they had no foot soldiers. He is the son of Éomund and Théodwyn, the sister of the king, Théoden, meaning Éomer is a member of the House of Éorl, the ruling family of Rohan. He has one sister, Éowyn, who is four years younger than him. As a child his father was killed in battle with the orcs and his mother died not long after of an illness. Therefore, he and his sister moved in with their uncle the king, named Théoden, and grew up in his household in the capital, Edoras.

Nothing else is known about his childhood, but as an adult he was made Third Marshall of the Riddermark. The duties of the Third Marshall changed based on the needs of the king, but during the War of the Ring, Éomer's duty was to patrol the eastern lands of Rohan, known as the Eastfold. He was in charge of an éored, which is a company of riders. The Third Marshall's seat was at Aldburg, in an area called the Folde, which lay between Edoras and the Eastfold. Éomer's father had also been a Marshall whose seat was Aldburg. Being appointed a Third Marshall showed his place in line to the throne. The First Marshall was the King in Edoras, and the Second Marshall was the king's son and heir, Théodred, who patrolled the Westfold. As Théodred had no heir of his own, Éomer was next in line after him.

In the year 3019 of the Third Age, Théodred was killed by Saruman's forces at the Fords of Isen and Éomer became the king's heir. Not long after he met Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli in the Eastfold. Protocol demanded that he bring the travelers to Edoras as no strangers were permitted to wander openly in Rohan, but after listening to their story about their journey and their friends being captured, he made the controversial decision to let them go. He gave them horses to help them and made them promised to return the horses to Edoras, to show that Éomer had made the right choice in trusting them. By doing this he was putting his position as Third Marshall and possibly his life into their hands. In letting them go, he was going against the law of the land and his king, but doing what he hoped was right. After this meeting he reported to Edoras himself, and was imprisoned for both disobeying the king (an act of treason), and threatening the king's adviser, Gríma Wormtongue, who had great influence over the king and Rohan, and also had his eye on Éomer's sister.

At this time, Rohan was in great danger of falling to the enemy. Gríma, who was secretly working for the White Wizard, Saruman, managed to influence the king enough that his people started to suffer because of it. Orcs and Wild Men were opening coming into Rohan, killing the Rohirrim and burning their homesteads.

Once Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli came to Edoras and the king was freed from Gríma's influence, Éomer was released and swore loyalty to his king. Éomer traveled at the king's side to Helm's Deep, where he fought bravely and would have been killed had Gimli not saved him. During the battle, he and Gimli were separated from the others and feared dead, but they had managed to be pushed back by the enemy into the Glittering Caves behind Helm's Deep and survived. He then accompanied the king to Isengard and when Saruman spoke, trying to bewitch everyone's mind into trusting him, Éomer was one of the few who were strong willed enough to resist, and he reminded the king not to trust him.

Éomer | Lord of the Rings (3/5)

[identity profile] fairandbright.livejournal.com 2011-02-02 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
While resting the troops at the encampment at Dunharrow, a messenger from Gondor arrived bringing the Red Arrow from the Steward, Denethor. This symbolized Gondor's need of aid from Rohan, and despite depleted forces and needing to leave men behind to defend Rohan, Théoden agreed to muster the Rohirrim and ride to Gondor. Continuing at the king's side, Éomer journeyed to Gondor to fight at the Battle of Pelennor Fields outside the walls of Minas Tirith. There Théoden was gravelly wounded and declared Éomer king before he died. This made Éomer the first king of the Third Line of the House of Eorl. After Théoden died, Éomer spotted his sister lying seemingly died on the battlefield, as she had dressed as a man so she could come and fight. Upon seeing her, Éomer flew into a rage and ran off into the still occurring battle, believing in the end he would die too. To his surprise, however, Aragorn brought in reinforcements and the battle was won. Éomer found that Éowyn was not dead, only badly wounded, and he rushed to her side. After being healed by Aragorn, she finally awoke after Éomer sat by her bedside, calling to her.

After the battle, the Captains of the West prepared their next move. Gandalf counseled that their armies should march to Mordor and draw Sauron's eye towards them, so that the Ringbearer could have his chance to pass to Mount Doom to destroy the Ring of Power unnoticed. Aragorn said he would go on, and Éomer, though he admitted that he didn't know much about the Ring of Power, said that since Aragorn helped his people in their time of need at Helm's Deep, he would now help Aragorn and would go on with him.

He fought at the battle at the Black Gate, and when the Ring was destroyed he returned to Gondor to celebrate at the Field of Cormallen. He sent word to Minas Tirith for his sister to join him, but in the time he was gone, she had fallen in love with Faramir, the new Steward of Gondor, while both recovered in the Houses of Healing and, confused about her feelings, she stayed in the city until Éomer came to fetch her. He approved of Faramir and when a great host of people journeyed from Minas Tirith to Rohan to see Théoden buried, Éomer announced to all assembled that Faramir and Éowyn were to be married.

After the war, he married Lothíriel, the daughter of Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth, a man who had fought beside Éomer at the Black Gate. They had one known son, Elfwine, and Éomer's reign was so peaceful and prosperous that his people called him "Éadig," which means "the blessed" in the Rohirrim tongue. He reigned for sixty-five years, dying at the age of ninety-three.

Éomer | Lord of the Rings (4/5)

[identity profile] fairandbright.livejournal.com 2011-02-02 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Éomer is defined by his loyalty to his king and his homeland. The people of Rohan are noble, and hold the ideals of combat and warfare highly. To die in battle and be remembered in song is seen as one of the greatest things a person can do. Éomer's position as the nephew of the king and an heir to the throne gives him great influence over others, and soldiers seek his counsel. Despite his loyalty to Théoden, Éomer knows that the king is deep under Gríma Wormtongue's influence, and Éomer is frustrated at what's becoming of his country. The king, once free of Gríma, is a stubborn man, and when Éomer counsels him to stay in safety instead of run out to battle so soon after being weakened by Gríma and Saruman, Theoden rejects his words. Still, Éomer continues to give the king counsel, and at times he takes it, like when Éomer suggests the men and horses rest for the night before they charge into battle on the Pelennor Fields at dawn. Wise when it comes to warfare, Éomer is in his element here. He is a natural born leader, and fits the Rohirrim ideal of a noble, brave, loyal warrior. At times, when questions are directed to the king, Éomer answers instead, not out of disobedience or a lust for power, but simply because he was used to the king not being in a state to handle giving orders and he would therefore pick up the slack.

Éomer is young, but has been in many skirmishes and battles with the orcs, fighting bravely. Though put in charge of many men, he is not arrogant, and is willing to listen to others and be influenced by them. He admits to not understanding matters that occur outside Rohan, and believes Galadriel, about whom he has heard vague rumors, to be a witch. He also knows little about Sauron's Ring, but is willing to risk his life, and the lives of his people to see its destruction. He offers this both to free the peoples of Middle-Earth and out of loyalty to and friendship with Aragorn. One of the defining traits Éomer has is his ability to have an open mind despite his limited knowledge of the world around him. He may believe things such as a witch living in the Golden Wood or that taking the Paths of the Dead is perilous, but on being given evidence to the contrary, he is willing to admit that he's wrong.

Though suspicious at first of the strangers he meets, because they might be a threat to Rohan, he forms strong friendships fast and easily, usually coming about because he has fought side by side with these people in battle. His friendship with Aragorn is so strong that when Aragorn says he is separating from the group, Éomer is surprised and disappointed, fearing the two will never meet again to draw swords in battle.

Éomer's love for his sister is great even though they spend much time apart, and he does what he can to protect her, such as threatening Gríma Wormtongue for desiring her. In the movie version, he tries to dissuade Éowyn from romanticizing war, telling her it is full of blood and screams, and is the work of men. His plan was to scare her away from war, but it backfires and only makes her more determined to go into battle herself, when all he wanted was to banish the idea from her head, so he could keep her safe. He is absolutely devastated when he thinks she's dead, and with the last member of his family gone, he rushes off into battle to meet his death too.

Duty is always in the forefront of his mind. His duty to his people is, of course, most important, but also important is his duty to his friends, such as Aragorn. It was said that after the War of the Ring, Gondor was still under threat at times and Aragorn, now king of Gondor, called to Rohan for help, which Éomer always sent. He also remembered the Hobbit in the service of Rohan, Merry, who was a friend to Théoden and rode to war with Éowyn, helping her to defeat the Witch-king. At the end of his life, Éomer sent word to Merry, asking to see him one last time, and Merry was there when Éomer passed away.

The people of Rohan are described as tall, but when we are introduced to Éomer he is described as "taller than the rest" of his éored, meaning he is most likely the tallest of an already tall race of people. Some online sources cite a note or letter Tolkien wrote claiming that Aragorn was 6'6" and that Éomer was the same height as him. During the events of the novel, he is 28 years old. He has a sword named Gúthwinë, which in the language of the Rohirrim means "battle friend." His horse is named Firefoot.

First Person (entry type):

The skies have turned against us, I see. We must wait out the storm here in our makeshift camp, for it is too perilous to force the horses onwards here at the root of the mountains. The chances of rock slides are too great.

Yet I do not curse the rain. The crops of the Mark desperately need it this time of the year, and perhaps the harvest will be bountiful in return.

[Éomer pauses to run a hand back through his soaked hair.]

I will say that the rain does not do as much good for my men as it does for our crops. With so many injuries suffered over the years, weather of this kind wrecks havoc on our bodies. Have you an older relative who complains of knee or shoulder troubles when rain is expected? Imagine such complaints uttered by over one hundred riders.

[Not far away there is the sound of groaning and "My poor back!" Éomer smiles slightly.]

Thoughts of a warm bed at the end of our journey will get us through the night. Or, perhaps, will get most of us through the night.

Third Person:

Éomer awoke with the dawning of the day, greeted with a blue sky. The rain had left them during the night and all was now muddy, yet there was a fresh smell in the air. Men were slowing rising at this hour, tending to their horses and preparing breakfast. Éomer joined them, eating a piece of stale bread as he awaited news from a scout who had ridden out ahead. All hoped that there had not been a rock slide during the night that would make their journey home more difficult.

When the scout returned, he said that all was clear for many miles, and after the men finished breakfast, they saddled their horses to depart. Firefoot pushed his head against his master's shoulder in impatience. Laughing, Éomer ran his hand over the horse's braided mane. "Yes, Firefoot, we are going. I daresay you are thinking of those oats in the Aldburg stables, and wishing to return to devour them as soon as you may. We are going now."

Like his horse, Éomer too was eager to be home. He enjoyed patrolling the Mark to keep his people safe and sleeping on the hard ground never bothered him, yet like his horse, the man had quite an appetite, and living off the meager foodstuff the éored carried while patrolling made one wish for home all the more. He swung himself up on the saddle, one of his men handing him his spear once he was seated. He gave the call and his éored set out for Aldburg and better food.

History:

Lord Voldemort was born Tom Marvolo Riddle on 31st December 1926. His mother died moments after his birth and he was raised in a Muggle Orphanage. During his eleven years there, he realised how special he was. He could make the other children do things, or more accurately, do things to them. He stole things from the other children and kept them as trophies, using his ability to talk to snakes to his advantage.

Then one day, Professor Dumbledore came to visit him. He told him he was a wizard and he wouldn’t have to live in the orphanage any more. Tom jumped at the chance to leave; doing everything he was asked until he was on that train. He, like Harry, couldn’t stay at Hogwarts during the summer and so despised every summer he spent back at the orphanage.

Over the course on the next seven years, Tom Riddle became an exceptional student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but specialising in the Dark Arts. He also became a prefect as well as Head Boy, and in his fifth year, he opened the Chamber of Secrets as Salazar Slytherin’s true heir and set the Basilisk on the Muggleborns of the school. This concluded with the death of the ghost now known as Moaning Myrtle and the expulsion of Rubeus Hagrid.

Because it was then unsafe for Tom to open the Chamber again while he was at school, he created a diary and preserved himself in the pages for another day, another year, when Slytherin’s work could be completed. This turned out to be one of the seven horcruxes Harry Potter would destroy.

Despite his half-blood heritage, Tom was always looking towards perfection and pure blood status. He fashioned himself a new name as he hated his filthy Muggle father’s name. He became Lord Voldemort and knew it would be a name wizards everywhere would one day fear to speak aloud. (The letters in the name "Tom Marvolo Riddle" rearrange to spell "I am Lord Voldemort".)

While he was still at school, Tom selected a close group of friends and allies to be known as his Death Eaters while he himself used Lord Voldemort in secret. He asked Professor Slughorn for advice on Horcruxes and planned to make seven to save himself from the ultimate fate of death.

After Hogwarts, Tom asked the Headmaster of the time, Armando Dippet, if he could take up the post of Defence Against the Dark Arts Position. This was declined as Dippet deemed Tom too young and invited him to try again when he was older.

Tom then set out to find more objects to become his horcruxes. These include; Ravenclaw’s diadem, Hufflepuff’s cup and Slytherin’s ring. During this time, he worked in Borgin and Burke’s shop in Knockturn Alley.

After a few more years had passed, and Albus Dumbledore became Headmaster of Hogwarts, Tom approached him asking for the Defence Against the Dark Arts job once again. He was denied a second time and Voldemort cursed the job so that professors only stayed in that job for one year. But his trip to Hogwarts was not fruitless; this was when he hid the diadem in the Room of Requirement.

During the 1970’s, Lord Voldemort rose to power. He and his Death Eaters killed mercilessly as the Ministry of Magic tried to keep everything under control. But in 1979, Sybill Trelawney predicted the fall of Voldemort to Albus Dumbledore. Half of this was heard by Severus Snape, who then told Voldemort.

Voldemort then went after the Potters as he assumed this is who the prophecy was meaning. The Potters went into hiding but were betrayed by their friend Peter Pettigrew. Voldemort killed James first then gave Lily a chance to step aside. She refused and died trying to save her son. When Voldemort turned his wand on Harry, the curse backfired because of his mother’s love and Voldemort was left as vapour.
