Personality: On the surface, Bones is a sarcastic doctor. And he makes sure everyone knows it. He prides himself in being a competent doctor and expects all those around him to be competent as well. He is efficient and runs everything in medical bay like clockwork. This is due to clocking in so many hours during his residency and afterwards and the fact that he cares deeply about his patients and does everything in his power to ensure that they are on their way back to health. This leaves him running a little bit ragged sometimes and he has a tendency to overwork himself. He's convinced that nobody actually listened to medical advice so he makes sure he delivers the news bluntly and straight to the point instead of losing most people to medical jargon. He takes great joy in engaging Spock in discussions on emotions versus logic.
But underneath all that, Bones cares fiercely for his friends and loved ones. He's quick to defend them, despite his crass exterior. It's through this trust and faith in his friends that had him sneak Jim on board the Enterprise when Kirk was supposedly grounded for cheating in the Kobayashi Maru. He's not afraid to speak his mind even when Jim's the captain. He often looks forward to his daughter's messages from Earth and misses her every day. She takes precedence over everything else in his life.
