Character: John Watson Fandom: Sherlock (BBC) Character Notes:
History: John is a (estimated) 35-year-old medical doctor who recently returned to London from Afghanistan. He has a sister, Harriet, who is an alcoholic. She had a girlfriend/wife whom she left due to relationship stress; John liked Clara, and still hasn't forgiven Harriet for leaving her, or for her failing to clean up her life. He met Sherlock through an old war friend, who knew that both of them needed a flatmate and decided to introduce them. Within the first ten minutes of their meeting, Sherlock managed to correctly deduce that John was a returning soldier, as well as see nearly everything about John's relationship with his sister. (Well, except for the part about it being a sister, not a brother.) John was, of course, very intrigued by the whole thing. He decided to humor the idea of moving in with Sherlock after seeing the flat at 221b Baker Street and, of course, seeing that Sherlock truly was an interesting person, who was also bloody brilliant. Egotistical, arrogant and more than a little childish, yes, but brilliant.
During his first night with Sherlock, John managed to help the other unravel the mysterious "serial suicides" that had been occurring around London. He then managed to track Sherlock down after he disappeared with the murderer, and then (potentially) saved Sherlock's life by shooting the murderer from the other side of an alley. And even after realizing that Sherlock's real addiction was to things like mysteries and death-defying stunts, as well as finding out that Sherlock believed his brother Mycroft to be his arch-enemy (which is bonkers), he decided that the life of inaction he had been leading before meeting Sherlock was so much worse than the games of chance and the sometimes-intolerable attitudes Sherlock put him through. So, he moved in with Sherlock and then helped him solve the Blind Banker case, while also meeting his girlfriend, Sarah Sawyer, at his new clinic job. He also helped Sherlock with several interlocked cases formulated by Moriarty in order to draw Sherlock out. Unfortunately, this ended with a cliffhanger ending, wherein Sherlock and John are about two seconds away from being blown sky high by an explosive vest of Moriarty's doing.
But they'll both probably live. After all, you know, it's Sherlock and Watson. You can't exactly kill off either of them.
