Character: Dr. Atsuko Chiba and her dreaming personality, Paprika Fandom: Paprika Character Notes: History: A premier research psychologist, Dr. Chiba heads a team devoted to the use of the DC Mini, an invention of Dr. Kosaku Tokita, as a device to aid in psychological treatment. The DC Mini records the dreams of the user and makes them able to be viewed on a computer. It also permits dream sharing between users. Dr. Chiba is very experienced in the use of the DC Mini as a treatment aid, and created an alternate personality to more easily enter dreams and analyze them and the dreamer.
This alternate personality is named Paprika.
When a DC Mini is stolen, the team has a big problem. The model stolen is unencrypted, and is essentially able to be used by anyone. The implications of this are very bad, since a DC Mini in the wrong hands can be used to warp and implant dreams into other people's heads.
So Dr. Chiba, Dr. Tokita, Dr. Shima, and Detective Konakawa get on the case to figure out who stole it and how to get it back before all of reality is endangered.
Unfortunately, it doesn't take long for shit to get real. Dr. Shima, head of the research team, is infected with a dream while he's awake and ends up ranting nonsensically and jumping out of a window. He survives, but several other doctors end up affected similarly. Dr. Chiba, as Paprika, enters various peoples' dreams to try to figure stuff out.
Shenanigans happen, and reality starts to merge with dreams, and things get really trippy. There are a couple of moments where they think they're awake, only to be caught by dream concepts again. Many questions arise: is Paprika a part of Chiba, or is Chiba a part of Paprika? Are they separate entities entirely? Who is behind all of it, anyway? But what about the rest of it?
