Despite his worries, on September 1st, 1991 Ron boarded the train to Hogwarts and there he met and befriended Harry Potter. He also met, of course, Hermione Granger but would not count her any sort of friend until Halloween where he, Harry, and her battle a giant troll. The train ride wouldn't be complete if the two boys didn't meet nemesis Draco Malfoy and his two cronies Crabbe and Goyle. That evening Ron was sorted without a doubt into the house of Godric Gryffindor.
While all his things were second-hand, even his wand being Charlie's old one, that day was in some ways prophetic over what was to come. After Halloween the trio become inseparable and start their trouble-making days, and by the end of their first year are known throughout the school---Ron, most amusingly, for his chess playing abilities. The trio find knacks of trouble: from fighting Basilisks and a young Tom Riddle their second year, uncovering the true betrayal of Harry's parents their third, the return of Voldemort in fourth year, going against the Ministry their fifth, being combatants in the Second Wizarding War and eventually bring down Lord Voldemort.
