Personality: "Cheerfully esoteric" probably sums Maya up quite well. She's eternally glass-half-full, the type of person who'll try to cheer everyone up around her and usually succeed (even if only because her logic and ideas tend toward the laughably crazy). She's an orphan with no living close family (but a shit-ton of cousins) and top responsibility for a whole village and their way of life, but to talk to her you'd just think she was another immature ditz.

Underneath her bubbly, Cloudcookoolander exterior, Maya is legitimately smart and observant. It may be tempered by her crazy ideas, but more than once Maya has been quicker off the mark than even Phoenix at putting two and two together (perhaps because in AA world, 2+2 can equal fish via the long path of quantum logic, if you catch my meaning…) and she's come out with a few real snarky corkers in her time. She's a Fey, sister of Mia - strong, wilful, clever women run in the family.

Maya does have a well of angst inside her, although you'd be forgiven for thinking otherwise normally. She takes her own failures hard, has something of an abandonment complex (THANKS MISTY, THANKS ~~MIA~~ REDD WHITE) and the events of 3-5 and Elise-sorry-Misty's death and reveal probably didn't help in that quarter. She's not the type to wallow, though, even when she's not putting on a brave face - and given what's been thrown at her over her life, her relentless optimism and trusting nature are kind of amazing.

Though good-hearted and very sensitive to injustice, she has a somewhat…skewed morality at times. She's thought nothing of stealing unconsidered trifles and breaking-and-entering, for example, when it's suited her. She can also be kind of naive and suggestible at times, although she did get slightly better about that as the games went on. Still, sometimes you'd never believe she's the same age as Franziska. Her street smarts are hella lacking.

tl;dr likeable, determined, excitable, slightly crazy, totally loyal, and ultimately irrepressible, Maya's a fun and valuable addition to anyone's corner.

First Person: There's a wallet on the sidewalk. What now?

How much money's in it?? Open it up and see! Maybe there'll be enough in there for the new DVD of the Steel Samurai live show, or we can finally get that trampoline in Nick's office! Or, or, or, maybe it's someone rich, and we'll have enough cash to go for another fancy feast at the Gatewater! I still taste those steaks in my dreams sometimes, you know. They were absolutely the best in town, and I know steaks.

Wait! No! I've got it! If it's someone rich, we take them back the wallet, and they'll be so grateful that they'll shower us with gifts!

I mean.

It's the right thing to do, isn't it? Returning lost property? Yeah, exactly. So come on, don't keep me waiting!

Third Person: The weather today is horrible.

Maya very rarely thought the weather was horrible. Sunshine was self-explanatory; it was boating weather, it was adventure weather, it was Eldoon's-noodle-cart-is-out weather, what wasn't to love? Rain: she had spent far too long training under the freezing waterfalls of Kurain for a little rain to bother her. Not to mention, rain could bring a thunderstorm, and there was nothing more fun than waiting for a flash of lightning, making an ominous statement, and then laughing like a Big Bad as thunder crashed in the background. Snow was a perpetual attempt to lodge a snowball on the spikes of Nick's hair without being caught-- that is, snow was snowman weather, ice-skating weather, general innocent fun weather. Even hail was fun to watch bouncing off the roads.

But this weather, this foggy, misty, fine-rainy weather, this was horrible. Maya lounged in Phoenix's office chair, staring out of the window, pouting. The rain didn't even have the decency to make relaxing noise against the glass, it just misted it all up.

"I feel like I'm living in a horror film," she grumbled to herself. A grin spread over her face as that gave her an idea.

"Hey, Nick! Are you still cleaning that toilet?! Don't you know that if you do that when it's misty, you'll summon the evil fog-demon out of the drain to steal your soul?!" Distantly came the "What?", coupled with the sploosh of Nick dropping the toilet brush in surprise. His face appeared around the door a moment later, and Maya couldn't hold back her giggles.

When the weather was terrible, you made your own entertainment!
