Rachel is a strong, young woman. She's quiet but not shy, staying silent in an effort to be aware of everything around her. It serves her well, as she often goes unnoticed in a crowd, able to slip away, undetected. She's fairly neutral when it comes most things, although that could be because it's her job not to become directly involved. During the incident aboard the Flying Pussyfoot, however, she goes against what's expected of her and actively rescues people, claiming that she doesn't want to see anymore bloodshed.
She tells Claire that she's not a normal girl but doesn't go into detail. One look at her and you'd see she's not what one would expect a young woman from the early 1930s to be, though. She covers herself nearly from head to toe in a long sleeved shirt, pants, and gloves, and hides her blond hair up in a bandana. She may even be able to pass as a boy at first glance. She could also have been referring to her personality with that comment, as she doesn't go out of her way to be particularly friendly or social.
Other: While arguably the most normal character in the series, she still manages to kick a lot of ass!
Every time I think things have settled down, life throws another curve ball. Apparently, there's a community out there, some sort of... nexus that connects several different worlds. Just thinking about it makes me doubt my own sanity, but unless it's an elaborate hoax (how that would even be accomplished, I don't know) or I truly am going crazy (a distinct possibility these days), I can't deny the evidence. Responses from other people show up in my journal, addressing me directly, and I'm sure I didn't write them.
This is something that the paper will want to know about, but how to bring it up... For all I know, the president might already be aware. It certainly wouldn't surprise me.
I think I'll keep an eye on things for now. Who knows? Maybe I'll wake up tomorrow, and this will all have been a dream.
Third Person:
A young woman entered the bar, stopping just inside the entrance to survey the area before heading towards the back. She looked boyish, her blond hair hidden beneath a dark green bandana, and nearly every inch of her body hidden by dark clothes, almost as if she were trying to remain inconspicuous among the many men who populated the bar. Without a word, she took a seat at a high-backed booth in the back and looked around, perhaps waiting for someone or something.
She remained quiet for the next several minutes, except while ordering a glass of water and a bowl of peanuts from the waitress. When it seemed as if nothing would come of her patronage, the slight movement she made as the door to the bar opened may have been apparent to anyone watching closely.
In walked three men in suits. They didn't acknowledge her, but her eyes lingered on them while they made their way to the back of the bar, only tearing away when they took their seats a few booths down.
When the waitress brought her water and peanuts, she nodded a brief thank you and went about her business, apparently paying no mind to the men anymore.
To trained eyes, however, it may have appeared that she was listening quite intently.
This was Rachel, and it was her job to be mindful of everything around her, to watch, listen, and gather information while remaining as discreet as possible.
