First Person (entry type):
Dear Diary,

I’m not sure where you came from but I’m so excited to have you! Now I have something else to do in between ballet and chess. I can write about all the exciting things I do every day like reading, painting, baking, candle making…

Okay, so maybe it isn’t very exciting but what else could I write about? Oh! I know! I can make up stories like the ones in my books. I could write about going to see the lights on my birthday. Who knows? Maybe someday that story will come true! I’m sure it will. When I’m just a little older Mother is sure to let me go and see them. I’ll be eighteen this year so I’m sure if I ask…

Maybe my life will finally begin.

Third Person:

Seventeen years. It was the night of Rapunzel’s seventeenth birthday. She had said goodnight to mother long ago and had waiting impatiently in her room until she couldn’t hear any movement outside of her room. As gently and as quietly as she possibly could, Rapunzel slipped out of bed, left her bedroom and crept down the stairs. It was the only room in the tower with a window and it was in just the perfect position. Carefully she opened the shutters and got down on her knees. Outside it was still pitch black, but Rapunzel knew all too well that it wouldn’t stay that way for long.

With anticipation she watched the dark night sky as she rested her arms on the window sill. Soon they thing she had been waiting for had arrived. One by one dazzling lights lit up the distant sky. Over the forest and mountains a million floating lights filled the sky making it as bright as the sunrise. Rapunzel’s breath caught in her throat as she watched their far off glow. What she wouldn’t give to be where they were and too see their light up close. She knew that was impossible for her now, but she still had hope. Each and every light gave her hope that with every passing year she was getting closer to the time when her mother would let her go.

“Next year for sure,” she sighed and dreamily watched the lights drift higher and higher in the sky.
