Character: Brera Sterne
Fandom: Macross Frontier
Character Notes:
History: Brera’s history is vague at best. He and his younger sister (LOL RANKA) and their family were passengers aboard the ship Macross Global. Then one day, TRAGEDY STRUCK and the ship and the entire fleet accompanying it were attacked by the crazy bug-like vajra, an alien speicies that seems to only want to attack humans and zentradi for no specific reason.

ANYWAY so Brera got separated from his family and ended up being kidnapped by this evil bitch lady named Grace who brainwashed him and made him into her own little mysterious bitch. The next we see of him he’s being all mysterious and mysteriously fighting against our Macross Frontier heroes. And to be frank, Brera kicks all of their asses.

Then he shows up and is Ranka’s bodyguard since he’s revealed to be on the GOOD GUYS’ SIDE for some reason, but really he’s just Grace’s tool, and despite his efforts to break free or whatever he and Ranka get kidnapped and used to incite the vajra to attack humans ‘cause it turns out Ranka’s singing is magical and stuff. But then that gets turned around with the help of Sheryl and Alto and stuff and evil Grace is defeated and it turns out the vajra just liked Ranka’s singing and she has a special connection to them or whatever and so everything turns out great because guess what they get to live on an actual planet and it’s AWESOME and everyone’s happy and stuff.

Personality: Brera is a man of few words. He’s very serious, but that’s really only because LOL BRAINWASHING pretty much prevents him from having the freedom to feel any real emotion. He does show some emotion however, mostly in the presence of Ranka. He feels a instinctive attachment to her and feels the need to protect her, even before they realize they’re siblings. Ranka even says she feels like he’s a big brother to her, in a moment of complete fail foreshadowing. But still, that pretty much defines their relationship. From the moment they “meet” they feel connected and instinctively trust each other, enough so that Brera is frank and honest with Ranka in a way he isn’t with anyone else, mostly because he doesn’t really talk to anyone else.
Other: He’ll be taken from the same canon point as the rest of the Macross cast.

First Person (entry type): [Video is being recorded from the inside of what looks like a machine or computer, and is in reality a VF-27 Variable Fighter, a cross between a mecha and a plane. Awesome. Brera is sitting in it, speaking in a flat tone, almost as if he’s a computer himself.] Searching. Access to site: Dramadramaduck acquired. Processing. Located: Ranka Lee. Acquiring data on local activities re: Dramadramduck. [He pauses and stares directly into the camera before beginning again.]

It is only reasonable that as the designated bodyguard of Ranka Lee, I should issue the following warning: she is under my protection as ordered by the government of Macross Frontier and the UN Spacy. If anyone should, in any way, threaten or inflict harm upon her person, I will take action. There will be no negotiation.

That is all I have to say. [There’s a long moment where he stares at the recording device, deadly serious.]

Ending transmission. Continuing search of records pertaining to Dramadramaduck. [The feed cuts abruptly.]

Third Person: His chosen seating was precarious: on the edge of a rooftop overlooking the pristine city built in Macross Frontier. He dangled one leg over the side while the other was tucked underneath him. He surveyed the nightscape with an unfeeling gaze. He might have missed the emotion he lacked, if he even was aware he was lacking it. But most of the time he didn’t. He simply followed orders without question, even without much thought.

But there were other times… a hand reached to the cord around his neck, from which a harmonica was strung. He pulled it out and looked at it for a moment before lifting it to his mouth and quietly playing a few bars of a song that haunted him.

He had been stripped of everything: his entire person, all his memories, his dreams, his desires… they were all gone. All that was left was this one song, the one thing that reminded him that he was a person, a human being. Despite all the implants, despite everything which blocked out his humanity and drove it away, nothing could take this song from him.

It was the only thing that could make him feel. When he played, when he heard the music, it touched a part of him that he would otherwise forget. The music reminded him of something… something he had lost, the memories he couldn’t access, the life he no longer knew. But despite the sadness the music brought, it also brought hope. Hope for the future: for his future. Hope that one day he would remember, one day he would feel, and one day, maybe, he could be truly human.

PENDING: revisions

We'd like to ask for a revised history section for this app; although levity is not a bad thing, a lot of your phrasing makes us doubt your knowledge of the character's backstory. We would appreciate it if you provided a history section that is more clear on Brera's motivations and situation at different points of the story.

Sure thing.

History: All he can remember of his past are broken fragments, most of which are just flickers of shadows of memory that he can barely even grasp. All he knows is that he was happy once, he had a family once, and once, that all meant something. Now it's just an empty hole that the brainwashing and cybernetic enhancements have smoothed over with an uncaring facade.

But when he plays his music... then he feels something. He remembers, and he remembers what all that means, even if only for a brief moment. The first times we see him, his only purpose in life is to follow the commands he is given.

And then he meets Ranka. Her song really opens up something inside him, something he can't put his finger on. Whatever it is, it makes sense, and it makes sense to be around her, protecting her. She reminds him of what it means to be human, and he is most like a person when he is with her.

But he's still completely under Grace's control. So when Grace tells him to kidnap Ranka and make her sing her song to make the Vajra destroy mankind, he does it. And he protects Ranka, because he will always protect Ranka. Ranka is the only person who means anything to him. They've discovered the truth, you see, and though finding out that she's his sister is surprising at first, it makes so much sense to him. When Alto manages to break through Grace's illusions to reveal the true enemy, Alto frees Ranka and Brera from Grace's control. Finally empowered to protect his sister from the real threat, Brera helps Alto, the fleet of the Frontier, and the Vajra all turn against Grace and her cronies to save the day.

In the end, when humanity has found a new home on a new planet with their new allies, Brera is left with an open future. All he knows for sure is that he will stay with his sister. His path and his own self he will have to discover on his own, finally free from outside influence.
