Character: Edward Elric Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist, 2003 anime Character Notes: History:
When Ed was three years old, his dad, Hohenheim, left their family. From that point on, he and Al were raised solely by their mother. Still, Ed always seemed happy enough in Resembool. He had his family as well as the Rockbells, a very close family whom they often visited.
It was on Winry Rockbell’s birthday that they surprised everyone by their first use of alchemy. Though they had to work together and the transmutation was a simple doll, Ed was only six. Most kids don’t know what a chemical makeup is at six. Or that there is a chemical makeup. Things come from magic!
Winry was horrified but their mom was extremely proud of her two smart boys and begins to encourage them, even giving them access to their dad’s old notes. Though Ed really does love alchemy, he really begins to get into it after seeing how proud his mom is whenever they manage to do something new.
Ed first mentions knowing about human transmutation – a forbidden branch of alchemy – when Winry finds out her parents were killed while treating patients during the war. Apparently someone should have put those books up higher. Pinako smartly informs him to shut up. Not that that stops them later.
Two years later, when he’s 10, they come home to find him mom collapsed. Apparently she had been fighting an illness for a while and was finally succumbing to it. While she laid dying, Ed and Al send out letters to people who had written to Hohenheim, hoping someone could tell them where he was.
Their mom dies without him ever returning.
It’s at her funeral that Ed decides they were going to do it. They’re going to relearn alchemy and bring their mom back. First, they need to find a teacher.
Their chance came when Resembool had a rain heavy enough to nearly flood the river. While Ed and Al try and fail to help, a woman named Izumi shows up and transmutes a wall large enough to keep the water in, without a circle. They’ve found their teacher! They just have to convince her first so they don’t tell her the entire truth behind their reasoning.
In the end, she agreed to train them if they could pass their test and so, Ed and Al begin their month long stay on a deserted island without the use of alchemy. At ten years old, Ed learned the truth about the world (AND THE CIRRRCLE OF LIFE~) . One feeds another, that feeds another, and so on. The boys that couldn’t eat anything but fish and fruits when they arrived were killing and eating rabbits when they left.
With the test passed, their lessons began, as did the reason the boys still fear Izumi to this day.
With their training complete, they return to Resembool and get to work. Without even letting the Rockbells know they’re back, they get their materials ready and begin the transmutation, using their blood as material for her soul.
I don’t think I spoil anything by saying it doesn’t work. Al’s entire body is taken and Ed loses his left leg. Even though he was only eleven, he was able to keep up enough calm to crawl to a piece of armor and use his arm, though he offers everything, to bind Al’s soul inside. The newly returned Al rushes him over to Winry and Pinako.
This is the part where Lieutenant Colonel Roy Mustang finally comes in. One of the letters had finally managed to make its way to him and he had come in hopes of finding Hohenheim. Instead, he finds a suit of armor and a seemingly unconscious boy with only half his limbs. Still, he knows what they tried to do and was impressed that they managed to come out alive and leaves his name, along with an invitation to come to Central and take a State Alchemist exam.
Ed then has a new plan! They’ll become State Alchemist and use their resources to find the Philosopher Stone, a stone which allows alchemists to ignore the main rule. They’d no longer have to give up something of equal value to gain something else. Instead, they would be able to get their own bodies back without additional cost.
All of that’s kind of hard to do while missing half his limbs so he decides to get an automail arm and leg. Even though the operation is painful, he knows it’s nothing compared to what Al must be feeling.
His recovery and adjustment is where I’ll be taking him from.
Personality: Stubborn, kind, selfish, a hero…Ed is a lot of things and is one of the most diverse personalities that I know of.
The main aspect of his character, and a play on his State Alchemist name, is his stubborn nature. It shows largely in his dedicated to finding the stone but is also present in little moments, such as his continued refusal to drink milk. If Ed doesn’t want to, he really doesn’t want to and will fight until it’s over. Then he’ll complain about it happening.
Being a protagonist, he’s also very outgoing. If he wants something changed, he’ll work on changing it rather than just complaining. Whether it’s by reading until he has the knowledge, trying until he knows why it failed, talking to whomever has the influence to do something, or forcing the change himself, he’s a resourceful boy, smart enough to utilize all of his resources.
And yet he always ends up in trouble. As befitting of a shounen hero, he has a sizeable guilt complex. The downside to being your own boss, whom he really considers himself to be, is that one must also take responsibility for your actions. Over the course of the series, while Ed doesn’t initially kill, there is a lot of blood spilled due to being involved with him. Those lost while he knew them will always stay with him and if there was a lesson to be learned by their death, he’ll remember and apply it.
While most extremely good fighters are strong, few are also shown to be smart. Ed is the best of both worlds. His martial arts are highly effective, his small stature lends itself well to speed, and he’s an alchemist genius. While the clapping is something given to him by the gate, the fact that he was able to do that transmutation so young and the rate at which he learns and adapts is amazing.
One of the conflicts in his personality is his selfishness…and his selflessness. In day to day life, what Ed wants is very important to Ed. Whether it’s stopping at a tourist attraction city before reporting to work as he’s supposed to or simply cheating at a card game he wasn’t really interested in, he’s not always putting others’ feelings first but if your life is in danger, he’ll be the first to jump into the fray. One of the hardest decisions he had to make was rather or not to kill a group of prisoners to save Al’s life. Since life isn’t something an alchemist can give back, Ed couldn’t do it, sentencing himself to the guilt of having been an instrument in his brother’s death and possibly his own.
Another is his maturity and his immaturity. He’ll yell and fight, argue, mope, yell that he hates his brother who is forcing him into getting a shot, and stick out his tongue to tease enemies. He’s still very much a teenager, or child, in these times, displaying his real age. It’s only when it comes to inner strength that his maturity shows through. He kept his calm while bleeding out to save his brother’s soul, he takes responsibility for what he did when he was only ten and works to give Al’s body back. Though it took another lesson, he realizes how many things are beyond even his power but continues to push on anyway.
Opinions are also very important to him. His own, anyway. If he has a thought, he’ll say it, whether or not someone wants to listen. While some may push this aside as being socially ignorant, it’s really that he knows how he should act and doesn’t care. He doesn’t believe in gods so while he doesn’t outright attack those who do, why should he listen and pretend he does?
Other:
While Ed is extremely smart, his language doesn’t always reflect that. He uses slang and sometimes curses and his speech style is over all rough.
Ed is taken completely from the Japanese subs. I’m not sure how familiar the mods are with FMA or if they’re more familiar with the dubs or subs but I just wanted to point out that in the original versions, pretty much every character is more subtle. Not that that makes Ed subtle at all, just MORE subtle.
Besides that, I used the Fullmetal Alchemist Complete Book Story Side for a lot of dates, including the age Ed was when Hohenheim left.

First Person (entry type):
Fullmetal Alchemist. It fits. I can’t keep wavering, I can’t stop now, not until we’ve regained what we lost…not until Al gets his body back. If that means working for them, I’ll do it so I can keep looking. …But I won’t become just another dog, I won’t become like the people that covered up Nina’s death. If that bastard thinks that’s why I came back, he’s even dumber than he looks.
Alchemy is the science of Equivalent Exchange. I’ll work for them and I’ll let their resources work for me but they’re not giving me a soul back, I’m not giving them mine.
Third Person:
The ladder was made for books out of his reach but Al was usually present to save him the trouble, so having to drag it to the section he wanted wasn’t something Ed was used to. Or happy about. His grumbles carried from his starting point to finish. This was stupid.
“If they just made the library for normal sized people instead of giants, people could actually use it without having to drag a ladder around.”
The ladder was set in place, the hardest part done. Still, the fact he was going to have to use it to reach what wasn’t even half way made him scowl up at the tomes and his shoulders slump.
A hand on the rung and he was climbing, his legs scurrying quickly upward before anyone saw. All he needed was to have his studies interrupted because somebody found something funny about the situation.
After all, HE WASN’T SHORT!

Emmett Brown| Back to the Future | Not Reserved| Warning Spoilers and Triggers 2/?
The Back to the Future movies and game, deal with the science fiction idea of time travel.
Doc Brown mentions that he invents his time machine because, "The intent here is to gain a clearer perception of humanity where we've been, where we're going, the pitfalls, the possiblities, the perils and the promise. Prehaps even an answer to that universal question - Why?"
Which is very similar to the unnamed time traveler in H. G. Wells, The Time Machine. In wanting to know the destiny of mankind and maybe fix that. However, Back to the Future is rather complex as actual physicist perceive time travel.
Dr. Emmett Brown invents the flux capacitor. A device that uses electricity to travel though time. Which by Albert Einstein, if you want to actually in theory travel though time, you need to use energy. Not that 1. 21 gigawatts (Plutonium or a bolt of lightning) would actually work in theory as in Back to the Future movies and game but its close enough.
Dr. Brown comes up with the idea for the flux capacitor on November 5th, 1955. He was standing on his bathroom toilet trying to hang his clock, the toilet was wet, so he slipped and hit his head on the sink and when he came to his senses had a vision of the flux capacitor, in what makes the time travel possible in Back to the Future.
A major theory that is constant thought out the movies and game is the Grandfather paradox. Basically, the theory that if time travel was actually possible and say you went back in time and killed your grandfather, you'd crease to exist, aka the 'ripple effect'. As this theory creates a ripple in the stream of time. Like when you toss a rock into a still river.
Time, by many theories and the Back to the Future movies and game is viewed as these rivers. Expect, rather than psychical ripples you see in the rock tossed in the still river, the river of time branches off to an alternate version of that river.
In Back to the Future 2, Dr. Brown draws Marty this river of time.
The undistributed timeline (without Marty interference) begins in 1908. When the 'Von Braun' family comes to America. Quickly changing their last name to 'Brown' because of the First World War.
Later in, 1931, Emmett Lathrop Brown, was not the scientist he ends up to be. Actually, he was a clerk working for his father, Judge Brown. Who disapproves highly of his son's Emmett's so called ambition to be a scientist. For one, Emmett was and continues to be wishy washy. However all those science fiction novels of the day, Jules Verne and H. G. Wells, inspires his imagination. Not to mention what Judge Brown wants Emmett to follow his footsteps, of law. That Emmett disliked with a flaming passion and late at night did scientific experiments in the family's garage. These include,
*Rocket Power Jetpack *Rocket Power Car
Despite Emmett's after hours working, he remains fearful of his father Judge Brown. Emmett never completes a full scale working model of the rocket power jetpack because that runs on moonshine, which is outlawed.
At one point, Emmett becomes distress with his rocket power car, the idea behind that was, to make traffic jams a thing of the past. However, during the viewing of the movie Frankenstein, his mind is reanimated and he figures a solution to his problem, which is static electricity.
It wasn't until the Hill Valley Science Expo, in October of 1931, that Emmett went public with his invention and needless to say, the flying car of the future was a failure. However, also a success. Emmett got himself a name in the scientific community and Emmett and his father, had a bitter relationship until the end.
November 5th, 1955, see above pargraph about the flux capacitor.
October 26th, 1985, Dr.Brown modifies a Delorean into a fully functional time machine, on October 26th, 1985 at 1:16 am. After successfully performing a one minute time travel with Einstien the dog, Doc Brown is killed by the group of Libyan terrorists he stole the plutonium from.
Among the fandom, the fact the game and movie being one in the same is debatable. However, if you watch the beginning of the game that takes place in the beginning of the first Back to the Future movie, when Doc is showing Marty the Delorean for the first time and then disappears. That takes the game in another direction then said movie but that's because the game is after the movies, as you do see the picture from 1885 in Marty's room in the game from Back to the Future 3 movie. Due to the fact, Doc went back into the past in 1931 and got himself killed by mistake, as you later find out and therefore, that's why he's disappearing at the beginning of the game that starts like the movie. Considering, the movies in themselves act on that same principle.
Emmett Brown| Back to the Future | Not Reserved| Warning Spoilers and Triggers 3/?
Doc has gone missing for a four months after the end of Back to the Future III movie. Due to this Doc Brown also disappears at the beginning of the Back to the Future I movie because in the timeline before Marty went back in time to help Doc Brown, Doc had been shot on the courthouse steps accused of being the speakeasy arsonist in July of 1931. Also, in this timeline Doc and his father have a very rocky relationship.
* Emmett sees the movie Frankenstein and doesn't go out with Edna. * Hover car is a complete and total disaster but gets Emmett in the spotlight and jump starts his career as a scientist. * Never gets his Rocket Power Drill to an actual working model since this runs on liquor.
This is the original timeline that will run into the first Back to the Future movie.
Timeline B[Episode 2: Get Tannen]Get Tannen Wiki Marty goes back to rescue Doc Brown in the past to stop a major paradox from occurring. Marty is successful. However, in doing so Marty changes a few things.
*He drives his grandfather out of Hill Valley, which endangers Marty’s existence. * Marty is able to get Emmett’s Rocket Power Drill as a full scale working model. * Kid Tannen isn’t convicted and put behind bars as Tannen was in Timeline A. * Emmett also has a faceoff with his father, Judge Brown on how Emmett doesn’t like being a clerk at the courthouse.
When Marty returns to 1986, on this timeline, Hill Valley is run by the Tannen family.
Timeline C [Episode 3 Citizen Brown]Citizen Brown Wiki Marty needs to get his grandfather, Arthur McFly, back to Hill Valley. Emmett is now publicly doing experiments. Something Doc remarks that Marty was the cause of this from the Timeline B. Since in Timeline A, Emmett wouldn’t have had the nerve to perform public experiments.
* Emmett doesn’t go to see the movie Frankenstein but rather hooks up with Edna. Something went wrong! * Emmett got the credit for having caught Kid Tannen, rather than Officer Parker in Timeline A; Edna now expresses interest in young Emmett. * However, the 1986 of timeline B has now been fixed.
Doc in timeline A disappears in timeline C, because of this hook up with Edna.
Timeline D[Episode 4 Double Visions]Double Visions Wiki In 1986, another alternate timeline, Doc Brown is now married to Edna and everything from the Back to the Future movies is now null and void. Timeline A has been replaced now with Timeline D, since Doc Brown never invented the time machine in the first place. The McFly family remains how they were in the original Back to the Future, since George never stands up to Biff.
Citizen Brown is still Doc Brown to an extent. He’s still wishy washy and distracts easily as Emmett always has been. However, Edna almost completely controls this aspect of her husband but Citizen Brown comes to his senses and sees what he’s done to Hill Valley. Having this place like George Orwell’s 1984, and free will was now a flip of a switch. However, Edna decides she needs to change her husband’s personality.
* Marty saves Citizen Brown from the brainwashing, and Citizen Brown goes to fix up the Delorean. * The two time travel to October of 1931 by mistake. Apparently, the time travel car is having a slight glitch.
The objective now, is to break up young Emmett and Edna and to make sure Emmett sees Frankenstein.
As well as to get Emmett back on track with the hover car project and away from Edna’s idea of a Mental Alignment Meter. Which in the future will lead into Timeline D with the brainwashing of the citizens of Hill Valley. During this, Citizen Brown has an idea that perhaps the reason his science was going to be used for evil wasn’t Edna’s but rather Emmett’s passion for science. If Emmett doesn’t attend the Hill Valley Science Expo that jump starts his career as a scientist in Timeline A, then perhaps Emmett and Edna can still be together and Edna won’t end up alone in Timeline A, like she does. Marty refuses this. Emmett meanwhile, is crushed that Edna left him and wallows in despair on top the Hill Valley Courthouse, during a lighting storm. In which, the lighting gives Emmett the solution to the problem with his hover car, over the lighting scene in the movie Frankenstein.
While Emmett prepares the hover car for the science fair he is kidnapped by Citizen Brown and forced to confront his father. However, Marty finds common ground between Emmett and his father and the hover car equipment was a success, unlike the failure in Timeline A.
As Edna confesses to being the speakeasy arsonist, Citizen Brown fades away and so does Timeline D. Emmett confronts Marty about how Marty keeps showing up and how Emmett knows this has to do with 'Emmett'. Marty gives Emmett a paper clipping from 1986, and tells Emmett not to look at that paper clipping till Emmett receives the key to the city. Emmett leaves, seconds later; Doc Brown from Timeline A appears. Looks like everything has finally been fixed or has it?
Suddenly, Hill Valley vanishes before Doc’s and Marty’s very eyes while still in 1931.
Timeline E[Episode 5 Outa Time]Outatime Wiki Doc and Marty are still in 1931, but in an empty Hill Valley. They follow Marty’s great-grandfather on his route to deliver food to a house that’s not far away from where the two are standing. Turns out, Edna lives there and when she stole the Delorean in 1931, not the Delorean Doc Brown came with, in Timeline A, Edna time hopped somewhere and caused Hill Valley to disappear.
* The two time travel to 1886 to keep Hill Valley from being burned to the ground. *The two time travel back an hour before this happens, stop that from happening and bring Edna back to 1931 with them. Where Doc and Marty quickly leave and hope there weren’t more ripples in the space time continuum.
Expect, now, Doc and his father apparently got along, and that hover car failure was now a hover car success.
Personality:
Emmet can be a bit of a scatterbrain. He would start one project, drop that and just go onto the next best thing. For example, before Marty came to 1931, Emmett never actually built a working model of the Rocket Power Drill. With Marty's interference, Brown did build a working model and then after the Power Drill was destroyed moved on to the next greatest thing: the proto type flying car which he then dropped for a while until he cleared his mind watching Frankenstein (or in the other version was dangling for his life at the top of the clock tower during a lighting storm in 1931). It's a wonder really how Emmett even finishes any of his creations.
Stubborn: Despite being told by his father, Judge Brown, not to practice science Emmett does it secretly behind him because he believes that's where his true calling lies. Even when he's Citizen Brown the stubbornness is still there as he refuses Marty's ridiculous time travel story, until there was proof. However, he is swayed when Marty points out that Older Doc and Marty are in the background of the picture of younger Emmett taking the credit for capturing Kid Tannen in his prototype car back in 1931.
Denial: When Marty tries to bring peace between teenage Emmett and Judge Brown at the Science Expo in Part 4 of the game, Emmett gets upset that father went and dragged mother into this. To which Judge Brown retorts that Emmett acts just like his mother. That's where he gets this from. Emmett then remarks along the lines of how dare father bring mother into this if anything Emmett is like his - and stops. In the beginning of the game before Marty interferes with young Emmett, Emmett doesn't admit that he loves science. Marty has to pry that out of Emmett. Law and only law is Emmett's true love. Emmett was rather uptight before Marty interfered with him which caused Emmett to become more laid back. Considering the reason Brown was so uptight was hiding his deep dark science secret from his father and anyone else. Which Marty managed to expose and then there was a huge outburst with Emmett and his father, which after that Emmett quit being a clerk for the courthouse and was deciding his own future.
Brown could also be said to be see a bit of the crackpot type scientist. Really, Time Traveling Delorean? He's inspired in odd ways; the movie Frankenstein for example where the creature was brought to life with the lighting, inspires Emmett to have his prototype car run on static electricity (or in the other version was dangling for his life at the top of the clock tower during a lighting storm in 1931). As well as Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth was inspiration for his Rocket Power Drill that runs on alcohol. It is also hinted that H.G. Wells The Time Machine will inspire Emmett for the Delorean. Not to mention that bonk on the head on November 5th, 1955 that made him come up with the idea for the Flux Capacitor, which makes time travel possible.
Brown's older self is slightly different from his teenager self. The two major differences are that his older self is wiser and braver but those are things that come with age and maturity, usually. Older Brown is wiser in the sense as he tells Marty to be careful when time traveling:
* Don't be seen by your other self. * Don't interact with other people and try to blend in. * Don't know too much about your own destiny.
Whereas his teenager self has yet to understand all of this, his older self has had time to learn about the theory of time travel though the major breakthroughs in science in the later part of the 20th century.
Doc is also very brave, such as in 1955 when Emmett is dangling for his life (again) at the clock tower. Rather flipping out like he did when Emmett was a teen, Doc manages to regain control and plugs the electric cords together. In 1885, he jumps onto a moving freight train from a horse, then makes a stick up for a science experiment and points his rifle at Mad Dog Tannen, whom was trying to hang Marty and tells Tannen he won't give back the $88 for the horse shoes. Most importantly, whether it's his younger or older self, he always sees the good in someone. Whether or not that's actually there despite Marty breaking Emmett’s relationship with Edna and being horribly mad at Marty, McFly saves Emmett's life from dangling on the clock tower in 1931. Afterwards he and Emmett are friends. His older alternate self (Citizen Brown) despite knowing that Edna had used him to take control of Hill Valley like Big Brother still insisted to Marty that there was good in her and wasn't till Edna stole the Time Traveling Delorean did Brown realize there wasn't any good in her. This also goes back to him being stubborn. Once his mind is set on something, it’s almost impossible to change. However, there's one exception and that's if you have a reputation like Kid Tannen, who is a notorious gangster, then Emmett, as a teenager, not only doesn't trust you but is also afraid of you. His older self seems to be able to stand up more to those sorts of fellas. All in all, both the younger and older versions of Emmett Brown are a nice guy. Even though he’ll get frustrated figuring out a tricky equation or situation, he’ll keeps a sense of optimism such that he knows he’ll figure something out.
Not to mention the best line in the entire movie; "The future is whatever you make it. So, make it a good one." That older Doc Brown states to Marty and Jennifer in the last movie however Emmett learned that himself back in 1931 the day before the Science Expo.
Other: Taking Emmett from 1931 before he techinally invents the time machine and lack of Marty interference.

*Note this is a Twilight Zone telephone from 1931*
[The voice starts off in delight] “Since the beginning of time all women have heard footsteps up there.” Oh, Jules Vernes you really do know how to spark the creative imagination! Just think, once I get those blueprints to the patent office in Washington DC about my Rocket Power Drill I may be able to make your writing a complete reality. After all science fiction isn't necessary not real science, just science waiting to be explored!
[The phone rings] [Professional voice] Hello, Brown residence. Yes father… No, of course I wasn’t wasting any time with science. I was just taking a lunch break with a book. I’ll get those subpoenas handed right out. [Click]
[There’s a pause and shuffle of papers] Just finishing the chapter couldn’t hurt now, could it? Nah, I’ll be quick! I gotta see what happens next!
[Silence with some page flipping. Moments pass by and the phone keeps ringing until finally, click]
Brown reside- [Emmett yelps the sound of a book dropping to the floor can be heard and scattering feet and finally a slamming door. A few moments later the door can be heard opening]
Forgot the subpoenas! [Sound of door closing again. Emmett also left the phone on the line]
Third Person: "Yes, fath-Judge Brown", says Emmett.
Judge Brown was a fair, honest man. At least to the cases he dealt with at court. Otherwise, to his son Emmett, Judge Brown was unjust, unfair and just plain intimidating. Emmett always kept that mask on in front of his father. That uptight, “get down to brass tacks” attitude when he worked by his father’s side but deep down he was terrified of his father and didn’t like what he was doing. Law, as much as Emmett lied to himself, law was not his true love. His inspiration and true love were only visited during his off hours when father didn’t keep him busy. There inside a dimly lit room between wires, wrenches and bolts, was Emmett’s true love.
Science...
Science didn’t have to go by certain rules or regulations and Emmett loved it! Science can be as absurd and imaginative as Emmett wanted it to be. After all, why else make a rocket power drill that runs on alcohol? Because you can.
One day, somehow, Emmett was going to make a name for himself under his father’s nose as a scientist. Father wouldn’t understand. He wouldn’t understand his passion at all. This is America! This is the country where a boy doesn’t have to follow in his father’s footsteps. Those science fiction books Emmett often read over and over again opened his eyes to a whole new world of possibilities. H.G. Wells...Jules Vernes..they were Emmett’s only best friends and role models. It often occurred to Emmett that things are only science fiction because no one has actually tried. Perhaps it was the absurdity in him but one day that is how he was going to mark his name down in history. Only time would tell...

Character: Katie Fucking Fitch Fandom: Skins Character Notes: History:
Katie is one half of an identical twin-set. She was born only 6 minutes ahead of her sister Emily but that had an enormous impact on their sibling hierarchy growing up, right down to determining the ages at which they stop playing with "childish" things like dolls and stop speaking their secret twin language. They also have a younger brother named James, who is a bit of a peeping tom and all-around lecher, even going so far as to spy on them through their bedroom keyhole. Their father, Rob, is a fitness guru who owns "Fitch Fitness" gym but he runs into financial troubles that eventually bankrupt their family and cause their home to be foreclosed on, forcing them all to move in with Emily's girlfriend Naomi Campbell for a time. Jenna, their mother, is a bit on the controlling side and is well-suited in her job as both a stylist and a wedding planner. She always plainly favored Katie over Emily, and the divide between mother and younger daughter was only further drawn when Emily came out as a lesbian.
Accepting Emily's gayness was also difficult for Katie, who always operated under the attitude that because they were twins there was no possible way that her sister could be a lesbian. Particularly Katie had a strong dislike for Naomi since middle school, when she happened across her and Emily making out at a party. She always assumed it was Naomi that had kissed Emily first, a fact that Emily conveniently never bothered to correct, although it was really the exact opposite that happened.
Katie is exceptionally proud of her own heterosexuality and the fact that she has never not had a boyfriend since age 7. Indeed, she starts off the 3rd season in a rather shallow relationship with an older footballer named Danny and latches onto Freddie McClair not long after they break up. It could be said that her primary motivation for pursuing Freddie is her desire to get back at the enigmatic Effy Stonem for spurning her attempts at friendship, although she does obviously like Freddie and ends up quite genuinely smitten with him. Indeed she is increasingly hurt and disappointed by Freddie's lingering love for and fascination with Effy. This all culminates when their entire group of friends goes on a camping trip to Gobbler's End and gets high on shrooms out in the woods. Effy experiences a bad trip which Katie takes advantage of by verbally and physically attacking her. Effy retaliates by bashing a rock over her head, knocking her out, and leaving her there all night while she seduces Freddie. It takes a long time for Katie's whereabouts to be discovered because Effy lies about what happened. Eventually however she is rushed to the hospital and receives medical treatment. Everyone turns against Effy for what she did, especially as Katie has conveniently left out the fact that she was actually physically on top of Effy attacking her when it happened.
For a long while after though, Katie is but a shadow of her former self. She's too ashamed to be seen in her bruised and beat up condition and refuses to leave the house. Emily even has to dress up like her, makeup bruises and all, to go sit an exam that she'll otherwise miss and fail. Eventually she does emerge in time for their high school dance, the Love Ball. Freddie is filled with guilt over what happened at Gobbler's End and plays the doting date to Katie while Katie forces their autistic friend J.J. to take Emily in order to keep her away from Naomi. The twins end up physically brawling when Naomi shows up despite being forbidden to by Katie, and Katie is finally forced to accept her sister's gayness and love for Naomi.
In the fourth season, Katie appears to have moved on from Freddie and ends up dating another older guy named Sam. Sam is a considerable improvement from Danny but when Katie suffers a pregnancy scare only to find out she's actually infertile, Katie swiftly dispatches of him once he proves to be unsympathetic about her infertility and only shows to be relieved about not actually getting her pregnant.
It's at this point that the family's financial problems occur and Katie's mother switches occupations and becomes a wedding planner. Katie works as her assistant but unfortunately their first client and her mother turn out to be horrendously snobby and unbearable. Still she soldiers on to create the perfect hen night out because her mother is really relying on her to ace this job but she shows up at the venue only to find out that there's been some huge modifications done by the bride-to-be's best friend (who also happens to be Danny's new girlfriend). Things continue to go downhill when Katie runs into Effy and Freddie at the very same place and at last, unable to put up with the rudeness of her client and her exceptionally bitchy friend for any longer, she opts for losing her job in style by punching out Danny's new girl right in the middle of the dance floor.
Unfortunately as well, her sister and Naomi are experiencing "trouble in paradise" after Naomi cheated on her with a girl named Sophia Moore that she met at a University open-day. Emily doesn't find out about Naomi's indiscretion until later after Sophia overdoses on MDMA and kills herself by jumping off a balcony at a crowded party. As it turns out Sophia was a bit of a stalker who was incredibly in love with Naomi, who didn't really return her feelings. The only reason Naomi cheated at all was because she felt trapped and enslaved by the immense love she felt for Emily. But although Naomi convinces Emily not to move out, Emily becomes frigid towards her and begins treating everyone around her quite terribly. She even blatantly flirts with and kisses other girls in front of Naomi as well as sneaking around with them behind her back. Katie is disgusted by her sister's behavior and ends up slapping her good at an outdoor BBQ party at Naomi's house.
She later has a run-in with her friend Thomas when he gets accidentally locked into the bathroom with her while she was trying to take a bath. They end up bonding as Thomas consoles her about her premature menopause and infertility and the two even share a kiss although nothing comes from it as Thomas is still painfully in love with their mutual friend/his ex-girlfriend Pandora. One of her last accomplishments in the series is intentionally helping to make Pandora jealous of Thomas' affections while simultaneously improving her French language skills with him.
Personality:
Katie's character is immensely complicated. She appears one-dimensional in the beginning, only interested in boys, fashion, and one-upping her twin. Despite wanting to assert her independence from Emily she is actually quite controlling of her, treating her (as Effy calls it) like a "doormat." She is in fact only 6 minutes older than Emily, but it might as well be 6 years from the way Katie behaves. Although she wants to differentiate herself from her twin, she still cannot accept for the longest time that Emily doesn't want the same things from life that she does. Emily is gay for starters and this is a major point of contention between them. Although in time Katie comes across as less homophobic and more simply unaccepting of Emily's choice of girlfriends. Because as it turns out Katie is the kind of girl who will toss out what are seemingly insults like "bitch" and "lezza" practically in the same sentence as she says "I love you."
Growing up as the apple of her mother's eye certainly helped to embolden Katie and nurture some of her best and worst characteristics. On the one hand she's outwardly tough and strong and clearly unafraid to speak what's on her mind. On the other hand, being given such free reign and being regularly spoiled is also what has made Katie so self-centered and hard to deal with. Jenna herself can be quite underhanded and manipulative, as seen in how she both tries to scare Naomi away from Emily and bribe Emily to stop seeing Naomi. Having spent so much time around Jenna growing up, it is obvious who Katie learned a good deal of her scheming from. This is further evidenced by how much more like their father Emily is.
Katie's first real instance of change is after she finds out that she is infertile. Although like most girls her age she was obviously hoping that she did not wind up pregnant from her boyfriend, the fact that she will never be able to have children actually comes as quite a shock to her. She is visibly distraught by the idea and she proves to be quite vulnerable in her dealings with it. She feels let down by her family who are too involved in their own petty arguments to pay her suffering the attention it deserves. She is eventually able to confront Jenna about this however, and they do reconcile in a very genuine, touching mother-daughter comforting scene.
It's also clear how distraught Katie is by her perception of Emily pulling away from her. When Emily first moves out to go live with Naomi, Katie is hurt. She also does not take well to Emily's personality change after Naomi's cheating episode is uncovered. The girl who was once selfishness incarnate has by now actually learned to take a step back and see how individual actions can hurt other people.
She eventually learns to get over her own jealousy and grudges as well, finally finding some common ground with Effy and befriending her in her own weird way. She even shows a surprising mothering instinct towards the other girl when Effy starts suffering from her psychosis and needs her help.
Katie's enduring love for Freddie is also clearly differentiated by the end of the series from her previous, more juvenile flings. Although Freddie clearly wronged her, she doesn't drop him like she did Sam. She continues to be involved in his life and caring towards him and is clearly distraught by his untimely death. In addition, she demonstrates actual concern over the situation between Thomas and Pandora and rather selflessly tries to help him despite the hint of a crush on him herself.
So in summary, Katie goes from being a girl with no real ambition and who only lives for tomorrow, a shallow caricature of teen pop-royalty who shamelessly takes advantage of others for her own gain, to someone who proves to be deeply caring of those she considers to be friends not to mention frightfully loyal and even at times self-sacrificing. Her wicked, fiery tongue is never quite tempered but she learns to wield her attitude more with a purpose and stops lashing out at others with assumed impunity. She is not a feeling-less WAG but someone whose pride has always been used to mask her vulnerabilities and feelings of inadequacy.
So my boyfriend Danny is well lush, yeah? Fit calves, tight bum, the whole nine yards, really. But fuck me right sideways if he doesn't have the attention span of a total mong sometimes. Normally I don't care so much when he's busy off ogling my tits because let's face it they are proper mint. But can you actually believe I was trying to have a real conversation for once and all that bastard could do was grunt and nod like a neanderthal. I told him to fuck right off and all he could come back with was "yes, dear!" with the most vapid kind of shit-eating grin I've ever seen on a man. I know he didn't hear a damn word I said. So I've gone and blocked his number for the night, let's see if he can take his head out of his arse long enough to figure out why. And if that dicksplash thinks he's getting sex again before he comes full-on groveling then he's got another thing coming.
Third Person:
A flash of movement catches her eyes through the mirror she stands preening before. Katie pauses suddenly, tweezers still in hand. "What the fuck do you think you're doing, worm?" Her shout reverberates unrepentantly through the whole upstairs; it's late morning and their parents have both already run off to their respective jobs, leaving her with the undesirable task of watching over her wanker of a younger brother while dearest Emily claims to be laid up sick in bed . James is due to be picked up any minute now by that loathsome Gordon McPherson boy and his whacker mum, thank bloody fuck, but apparently even the threat of missing breakfast hasn't dissuaded him from trying to sneak a peek.
Clutching her royal blue towel closer to her chest, as if that would even do any good at this point, she stomps out of the bathroom just in time to hear James' feet clear the bottom stairs and carry him skittering into the kitchen. "Pervy little shit!" she howls over the balustrade after him. "You better stay down there this time or else, yeah?"

Second Sample! (This has become our thing, hasn't it ^_^)
"WHO ARE YOU CALLIN' A BEAN TOO SMALL TO BE SEEN WITH THE NAKED EYE?!"
It was the bastard's fault for saying something that stupid but HE was the one that got held back. He wasn't even short, the guy was a giant! He could compare with normal sized people but he wasn't going to be insulted just because some over sized idiot thought he wasn't tall enough!
And why was he laughing?! He was the Fullmetal Alchemist, damn it, there wasn't anything funny about this!
"I'LL SHOW YOU CHIBI!"
He didn't struggle in the hold for much longer. After all, if this wasn't working, it made more sense to try something else.
Then the flailing and the shouting stopped and the blond alchemist bent his head. Al probably knew that the sneaky smile and narrowed eyes didn't mean his brother had calmed down. The man calling him short should be afraid, very afraid.

Character: Erika Karisawa Fandom: Durarara!! (anime timeline, though supplemented by background information from the novels) Character Notes: History: Erika grew up in Ikebukuro. Little is known about her background except that she likely met her eventual best friend Walker Yumasaki at a very young age. Her passion for manga and anime is also likely something that started early and there are hints that her background had a dark side to it, although what nature this took is unclear. But the major defining moment for Erika, the one which would go on to shape her future, was when she joined the Blue Squares gang and met Kyohei Kadota, the person she credits for “saving [her] from the darkness”.
The Blue Squares were one of the prominent colour gangs in Ikebukuro, whose main rivals were the Yellow Scarves. Erika, as with the rest of Kadota's group, was more than happy to be a part of this gang until the Blue Squares (provoked by Izaya Orihara) kidnapped and tortured the then-girlfriend of Yellow Scarves leader Masaomi Kida. When Kadota defected from the gang, Erika, Walker and Saburo Togusa all left with him and they became their own little group - but not before Walker torched the van that the lead group of the Blue Squares were in.
Not long afterwards, Erika ended up joining the mysterious, "colourless" group Dollars. Kadota had been sent a URL and a password to a site which would allow him to join the gang; naturally once he had joined, Erika, Walker and Saburo all followed. In particular, the group seemed drawn to an idea put forward by the Dollars' mystery founder (later revealed to be newcomer to the city Mikado Ryuugamine) that suggested that the Dollars should work as a force for good within the city, to counter the rumours spreading that they were behind recent troubles. Of course, these being former Blue Squares members, their idea of "doing good" toed into interesting territory at times - what we're shown in canon implies that they chase down those doing wrong, for example those attempting to kidnap people for Yagiri Pharmaceuticals, and torture them into revealing more information. This is specifically Erika and Walker's domain, and they tend to take inspiration from anime and manga when it comes to their torture methods. Given that Kadota at one point tells them "no gasoline in the van like last time", it's apparent that they don't do these things by half measures.
Erika's introduction in the series occurs in the first episode, where Masaomi and Mikado run into her and the rest of her group during the latter's first tour of the city. She's impressed by Mikado's male-lead-esque name and she, with Walker, note that they have just been buying manga - revealing their habit of buying three copies of each manga they get (one each, the third presumably as part of their "torture kit"). As they leave, Masaomi notes to Mikado that Erika and the others are good people, so long as you're nice to them.
The two later run into Erika and the others and Mikado asks them about the Dollars, to which Erika's flippant response is that they are "Pipiru piru tenshi". It's only later that it's revealed that she and the rest of the van gang are members of the Dollars, when they set out to rescue Kazutano, an illegal immigrant who nevertheless became important to Saburo in particular due to his ability to procure otherwise unavailable tickets to his favourite idol's shows. When he's kidnapped, the group go all out to get him back, eventually learning of the connection with Yagiri Pharmaceuticals.
Erika's next appearance is a brief one, but reflects clearly her relationship with Walker - whether romantic partners or just very close friends, being unable to find each other is cause for genuine concern and outright panic. Of course, this being Ikebukuro that's perhaps not all too surprising, but it still reflects the bond between the two, something over and above their ties to Kadota and Saburo.
Some weeks later, all four become involved in uncovering the true nature of what Yagiri Pharmaceuticals is capable of. They catch sight of a cleaning van which is a known cover for the Yagiri company's men and decide to follow, eventually stepping in to rescue Mika Harima, who had taken refuge with Mikado after being chased by the legendary Black Biker (long story short: Celty, the black biker who has no head, believed Mika to be her head attached to a body; in fact, Mika was given plastic surgery to look like Celty's head, complete with neck scarring). Aware that Yagiri's men were after something in Mikado's apartment, Erika and the others slipped in before they could and took Mika to safety, eventually playing a key role in Celty being able to see her. As a result of this, the van gang are poised in perfect position when Mikado sends out a mass message to the Dollars, revealing just how many of the city's faceless residents are members of this gang with no rules and no colour.
Six months later, new troubles begin to stir in Ikebukuro. The Yellow Scarves are rumoured to be reforming and a new threat known as the Slasher is causing an increased number of incidents. Erika and the others end up involved when a reporter is cut by and thus becomes possessed by the being known as Saika, the sentient weapon believed to be the true identity of the Slasher. They intervene just as he is attempting to hunt down Anri Sonihara, aided by Celty and Shizuo. Erika and the others are left to deal with the subdued reporter as Celty decides to take Anri home and Shizuo decides to go beat up Izaya on the off-chance he's behind it all - which gives the audience the first real indication that Erika ships Izaya and Shizuo romantically, much to the disgust of everyone else around her.
As the rivalries between gangs heat up, Erika and the rest of the group confront Masaomi about his leadership of the Yellow Scarves and how things are spiralling out of control. Erika in particular notes that Masaomi is allowing the past to still have a hold over him rather than working to rewrite the parts that went wrong. The confrontation culminates in Masaomi declaring war on the leader of the Dollars and Kadota pointing him in the direction of the person most likely to know: Izaya Orihara.
In the meantime, Horada - a Yellow Scarves member who actually joined after the Blue Squares disbanded, ultimately with the intention of taking over from the inside - has been goading the other Yellow Scarves into being more proactive, in direct contradiction to Masaomi's instructions not to deliberately hunt down Dollars members (in part due to his knowledge that Mikado is the leader). After Horada tries to capture Anri, Mikado sets the Dollars - many of whom were quitting or on the verge of same after being instructed to do nothing in the face of the Yellow Scarves' attacks - the task of ensuring she comes to no harm; while Erika and the others play no direct part in the ensuing chain of events, it's clear that they are keeping a close eye on Anri and are likely at least partially responsible for the occasional updates on her location. They are also upset when they discover that the Dollars website has become inaccessible, after Mikado shuts the operation down.
Following this, with Mikado, Masaomi and Anri starting to become aware of each other's secret alliances and with Masaomi facing a mutiny from his former gang, Kadota arranges for himself, Saburo and some of their friends to infiltrate the gang so that when Horada shows his hand, Masaomi isn't alone; Erika, however, is deemed to stand out too much and she, along with Walker, are left to wait outside in the van while the action happens. With Horada and his allies finally apprehended, things in the city return to a form of normal, although it's not entirely clear whether that includes Dollars membership or not.
Personality: The first think one is likely to notice about Erika is that she is a huge otaku. She is obsessed with anime and manga, dropping in references wherever she can and often engaging in discussions with Walker that are unintelligible to pretty much everyone else. She is also a fujoshi, obsessed with Boys Love and with slash goggles firmly affixed. This doesn't just apply to those in fiction either; she is convinced that the ongoing hatred and fighting between Izaya and Shizuo is a sign of their love for one another and has gone so far as to write fiction involving her best friend Walker and their group's leader Kadota, with or without her involvement. She also is said to enjoy cosplay.
Erika is hugely enthusiastic about anything and everything she does, which can sometimes result in her sillier nature coming out. She enjoys nicknames and in particular seems to enjoy referring to Kadota as Dotachin even as he repeatedly tells her not to call him that. (Whether there is a relevance to her using a nickname that Izaya came up with is unclear; however she also calls Shizuo Shizu-chan which Izaya also uses) She is also a very intense person, particularly when it comes to her passions. This can take a darker bent, however; she and Walker are often left to physically and/or mentally torture troublemakers from whom they want information with their torture methods being lifted from anime and manga. Which isn’t to say that manga is to blame - Erika enjoys the prospect of making those who have wronged suffer and considers it an insult to true manga fans to infer that anyone could allow any form of fictional media to be held responsible for the actions of those who partake of it.
Beneath the fangirling and the occasional sociopathic moment, however, Erika does have a deeper side. She firmly believes that the only divide between fiction and reality is what they choose to believe; that reality can be rewritten to sever the ties to a past full of less than positive memories. This is shown in both her penchant for shipping real people with each other (including writing fiction about them) and her tendency to apply anime or manga references to what’s happening in the real world. Additionally she is incredibly loyal - she has been best friends with Walker for as long as she can remember and when they joined Kadota's group, she and Walker both ended up becoming loyal to him to the point that when he quit the Blue Squares gang, they quit right along with him. Hurt someone she cares about and Erika won't think twice about plotting revenge which, given how her mind works, isn’t likely to be something anyone would want. As Masaomi notes in an early episode she, along with Walker, is the kind of person who is nice so long as people are nice to her but who you wouldn’t really want to end up on the wrong side of.
Other: Erika is something of a fourth wall nightmare, even for her own series. For example, in an episode narrated by Kadota, she and Walker ask at one point who he's talking to.
First Person (entry type): I tried to show Walker the new story I wrote where he becomes Dotachin's willing love slave but for some reason he didn't seem all that enthusiastic. I don't know why - I even put in some scenes with Shinra and Celty, and I tried really hard to make sure that the totally obvious subtext in the fight between Izayan and Shizu-chan was kept off the page.
I mean, I think I did. And even if I didn't, that scene only took up, like, two pages so I'm not sure what he's getting so worked up about. Unless he's just upset that it's two pages where he doesn't get to be the star...he can be so funny about that sometimes. Like he has any right to be picky after some of the things he's written about me. Still, maybe I should give it another look-over before I let Dotachin see it...
Third Person: "Did I mention yet how much I love this place?"
It was something Erika said every time she walked into the Animate store and something she meant no less for having done so. For as long as she could remember, anime and manga had been something she clung to, something that allowed her to escape the darkness of her own world through the bright colours and loud battles presented in these worlds of fiction. It was something she allowed to consume her, to shape her thoughts and actions so that she swore she could see that wavering line between fantasy and reality. How very like each other they were, for all they were regarded as two separate entities.
Of course, it helped that she wasn't alone in these thoughts. In Walker she had someone who understood her when no-one else could, who could make sense of and match the references she made, no matter how obscure. Someone who would share in her excitement when new volumes hit shelves and who didn't consider her entirely weird for thinking that if fiction used reality as a starting point, why couldn't they write reality to their own vision? Both in the literal sense - neither of them took any shame in the fact that most of the fiction they wrote was about each other, or about other notable Ikebukuro figures - and in a more figurative sense. She had gone from nothing to being a Blue Square to defecting and joining the Dollars, admittedly under guidance from another but no less by her own will for that being so. After all, it was she who chose to trust in Kadota, who chose to place her loyalty in him above any colour gang.
And it was she, along with Walker, who would be shopping for new inspiration so that they could continue their war on the Manhunters and on anyone else seeking to disrupt the relative peace that had fallen upon the city ever since the demise of the Yellow Scarves and the Blue Squares.
JUSTIN HAMMER | IRON MAN | sort of reserved - i asked for one but it hasn't been listed yet | 1/2
(reusing my app from when I applied and got in over at LJ~ Original Additional Links:here.)
Player nickname: Hanne Player LJ:captfine Way to contact you: Email: thisaccountisextra@gmail.com AIM: notparallelfood Other: n/a Are you at least 15?: Y Current Characters: N/A
Character: Justin Hammer Fandom: Iron Man 2 Movie Canon, tied in with Movie Novelization Canon. Character Notes: History: Justin Hammer is the 36 year old CEO of Hammer Industries, and the DOD's current primary weapons contractor, a position he took on after Stark and Stark Industries stopped producing weapons after Tony Stark's return from Afghanistan.
Born and raised in Queens, New York, he had a relatively normal childhood and teenage years with nothing of great impact happening. After high school he went on to college, attending Dartmouth and getting his MBA at Tuck. After that he started working on his life’s dream, that being Hammer Industries.
Hammer Industries has been Justin Hammer's life's work, as it can easily be called, because unlike Stark he has built the company from the ground up. This also plays a role in the jealousy (to be later mentioned) he feels towards Stark, since he feels as though Tony was handed everything wrapped up in a pretty box with a bow. He is, however, far more of a businessman than he is an engineer, and therefore he relies on hiring the best engineers he can to do the dirty work. Naturally everything gets overseen by him, and approved or rejected, but as it is things in theory don’t often work out the same way in practise.
That statement includes the work that Justin has been doing with trying to recreate the technology that Tony Stark has utilized with the Iron Man suit, because the aforementioned refuses to give up the technology. The government feels as though Stark should be handing it over because it could potentially be harmful, especially if another country got a hold of the technology and started using it against America. The government isn’t aware of what Hammer is doing – they would frown upon that, but he’s hoping to perfect it before bringing it to them, to show that yes, it has been recreated, but by an American. He’s hoping that, if he can recreate it, he’ll be set for life. (Ivan: “What do you want them do?” Justin: ”Long term? I want it to put me in the Pentagon for the next 25 years. I wanna make Iron Man look like an antique. I wanna go to that Stark Expo. I wanna take a dump in Tony Stark’s yard, y’know what I’m talking about?”)
Always having been second best, and while he tried to be friendly to Tony Stark, he would constantly embarrass him in some way or another, Justin also wants to prove that he can do it to Tony, too. Not that he’ll ever admit to that, naturally.
Personality: Justin is, to put it simply, a dweeb who no one really likes, but who doesn’t realise that no one likes him, either. The type who, in a high school setting would hang out with the jocks – him thinking that it was because they thought that he was cool, but in truth they just kept him around because he would eagerly do their homework.
He’s not really well liked by…anyone, really, but he’s tolerated because he has money, substantial amounts, and where there’s money there’s suck ups.
The reason behind why he’s not so well liked is the front that he puts up. For lack of a better explanation, and to put it as simple as possible: he wants to be Tony Stark. However, Justin lacks the suave, smooth charm that Stark has, so instead he comes off as a bit of a sleaze with bad jokes and bad pick up lines. He does still get women, but they’re not falling over each other to get to him the way they do Stark. However, there’ll always be women who want men for no other reason than the chance of maybe getting their face in the paper, and having the chance to brag that they’ve slept with someone rich, and both things are possible through Justin.
But underneath it all, buried deep within Justin’s mind, and somewhat suppressed is the constant jealousy that he feels towards Stark, a jealousy that isn’t only when it comes to charms and women, but within the work field too. As mentioned earlier, he built his company from the ground up, and feels as though while being a boy genius, Stark would never have managed to create Stark Industries if he hadn’t been handed everything over from his father. Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, as he thinks it, and throughout life received everything on a platinum platter.
He comes off as a bit incompetent and bumbling, and though yes – on some things he is, but in general it’s more that he’s just bad at wording things. (Canon examples are aplenty, but a special not is at the Stark Expo and his speech, when he tells what he thinks is a hilarious joke, and it receives crickets and coughing.) Another thing he does, is that he tries to act a whole lot younger than he is, trying to be hip and cool. (Canon example of this being during the Monaco scene where he actually says BTW as BEE-TEE-DOUBLE EWE hurr) Saying acronyms isn’t exactly cool, even though he thinks it is, which throws back to reasons why people are iffy about spending time with him more than they have to.
In general though he’s a good guy who’s just trying a bit too hard. He wants to be liked and cool and hip etc, but with trying as hard as he does, it has the opposite effect.
Other:(I wasn’t sure if this was to go under history~ or not, so I’m putting it here since it’s a bit more vague then the rest) In the Iron Man 2 novelization from which I am also drawing canon, it is heavily alluded that Justin is a member of the Ten Rings organization, and something that I’ve included for my interpretation of the character. The Ten Rings is mentioned in the previous Iron Man film with Raza. He wears a ring that Obediah Stane then slips off his finger after he’s paralyzed him. A similar ring is seen in Iron Man 2 on Justin Hammer’s right pinky (visible best during the luncheon scene after he’s broken out Ivan Vanko). In the book it is said that Ivan Vanko goes to the Ten Rings to help him get to Stark, the shady dealings that we see in the movie where he meets the guy in the back alley, getting the passport and tickets. When the scene of Ivan’s breakout is brought up in the book, it is noted that to hint that it’s a trap to Ivan that the guard delivering the faulty potatoes scratches his neck on purpose so Ivan looks up and sees the Ten Rings tattoo visible over the collar of his shirt. Ivan, on the ride to the hangar concludes that the person who has broken him out is either a member of the Ten Rings, or someone so elite that they can make the Ten Rings do their bidding, and the former is far likelier than the latter. Justin is a fantastic dancer, and loves to show off his ~sweet moves~ any chance he gets. He has a Gulfstream G5.
First Person (entry type): (note: this is the type of thing that would be on a ~blog, and a private one at that) I got my slot for the Stark Expo confirmed today. Finally. I’ve been waiting for it for weeks now. I was starting to think that maybe Anthony was going to reject it for some reason. Resentment for me having taken over his previous position, or something like that. But the e-mail I got in return seems to be generic enough, so I’m starting to wonder if he even has a hand in choosing who’s going to present, or if he’s just doing this whole thing to stroke his enormous ego. Between you and me: Knowing him I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case.
I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be good. No, scratch that. It’s going to be great. I just have to finish up the prototypes. I think I mentioned in my last entry that we were going to do a test run on the current ones, and we have no. Conclusion: might have jumped the gun a bit early on this one. It wasn’t a total disaster or anything, and the pilot is fine. Relatively unscratched. Alive. But it didn’t work out quite the way I was hoping that it would. But I was excited, and it had to be tested out at some point. You can’t really blame me for it. Now I know what areas that really need to be worked on, and I’ll have my engineers get to that. Might have a harder time getting test pilots now, though, but I’m sure I’ll be able to work out something. Note to self: do that. Heh.
You know. I think having this personal blog thing was a great idea. Right now I’m just talking to myself, but I’m doing it without sounding completely crazy! And if I wanted to, I could talk to everyone on the internet, which is pretty much everyone in the world these days, which is neato, too. Maybe I should get a public one, too. Set it up on the Hammer Industries website. Though I’ll have to make sure that I put in some sort of difficult password that I won’t be able to put in when I’m drunk. I don’t want to be stupid, drunk and blogging at any time. The Social Network was a good movie.
Hammer Out.
Third Person: Where to begin? was the only question that was on Justin’s mind as he surveyed the stretched out space in front of him.
Events were one of his favourite things about being in the position that he was in, but then again, for who wouldn’t it be? There was good food, good drink, good music and good people. Beautiful people, too, which was why he always came to these kinds of things alone, in hopes that he would find something to take home with him, if he was lucky.
He sipped the flute of champagne that he had snagged from a passing waiter, and with a bit of a jive in his step he started making his way across the room, throwing in some heys and hellos along the way. He nodded at his acquaintences that were too far off to get a verbal greeting as he passed them, making his way towards the buffet table, and then walking the length of it, back and forth. He grabbed a cracker with caviar and popped it in his mouth as he thought, and then went for a chocolate covered strawberry. Not the most ideal of combinations, but the stomach wanted what the stomach wanted, and it wasn’t the worst combination in the world either.
He considered taking another, but was distracted by a familiar head of dark hair, and if the hair hadn’t given him away, the entourage of women surrounding him would have given it away just as much. With a cocky grin spreading across his face he strode over to the group, nodding and greeting everyone in it before turning his attention to the man who was the center of attention.
“Anthony! I thought that it was you. I was wondering if I would see you here.” Justin added a friendly laugh at that, looking around for some sort of recognition over the fact that they were on a first name basis, and thus missing the roll of the other man’s eyes.
“Justin Hammer.” There was obvious annoyance in his voice, and the smile on his face was forced, though whether Justin knew it or not wasn’t clear, because either way, he acted like he didn’t. “How did you get in here?”
“Oh, always the funny man,” Justin let out another laugh at that, one that was louder than necessary for that “joke”. “I’m here for the same reasons that you’re here. Rich. Smart. Handsome.”
“I can think of several accounts of where you’re wrong in that statement,” Tony replied, clearly still annoyed as he quickly tried to make his escape. “I…see someone over there who I need to talk to. Hopefully I won’t see you later.”
Before Justin could say anything else, Tony had walked away, the majority of the group that had been surrounding him following after, though there were a few that stayed behind, although all they gave Justin were awkward smiles, before they to walked away.
If anyone had been looking closely, they would have noticed a slightly fall in his demeanour – his shoulders slumping a bit, and the smile faltering, but he shook that off of himself quickly, and laughed, making his way to the bar this time to get a stiffer drink than the champagne.

Character: Fenrir Fandom: Norse Mythology Character Notes: History:
Fenrir is the oldest of three children born to Loki and Angrboða and probably the least popular as far as the gods are concerned. The three of them were prophecied to cause all sorts of trouble when Ragnarok rolled around, and Fenrir was fated to kill Odin himself. Needless to say, the gods didn't exactly want the three of them around. When they found out about the prophecy, they summoned the siblings from Jotunheimr. Odin cast Hel into Niflheim to rule over the dead, and their brother Jörmungandr (the midgard serpent) was thrown into the seas around all lands.
Fenrir, on the other hand, was raised amongst the gods, quite possibly in an attempt to keep your friends close but your enemies closer. None of them were brave enough to come near him, only Týr would bring him food. He was isolated and lonely, and quickly grew used to his own company. He was also quickly growing in size, and the bigger he got, the more the gods worried. Eventually, they decided to bind him to keep him out of trouble.
Twice they tried, with fetters they called Leyding and Dromi, telling Fenrir to test his strength against them, and that he would become famous if he broke them, the usual godly trickery. Of course, he was strong, and he did break them, though all he seemed to earn for his troubles was another attempt at binding him.
The third time, they had the bindings made with six magical ingredients by dwarfs. This time it was named Gleipnir and had the appearance of a ribbon, but was far stronger than either of the previous fetters. They took Fenrir to the island of Lyngvi (which means "a place overgrown with heather") and showed him that they couldn't tear gleipnir, but said that he was so strong, surely he could do it.
Fenrir pointed out that he wasn't exactly going to get any fame from tearing something so flimsy-looking, and if it was made with magic he wouldn't be able to tear it and he wasn't about to let them bind him with it.
The gods told him that if he couldn't tear it, he would no longer be a threat to them and they'd free him, but Fenrir didn't believe that for a second - he asked for a little insurance. He would let them bind him with gleipnir, as long as one of them placed their hand in his mouth as a sign of good faith. Again it was only Týr brave enough to do it, and he allowed himself to be bound.
Every attempt Fenrir made to remove the fetter only made it hold him firmer, every kick tightened the bounds. As he struggled, the gods laughed - angry at their deception and their mocking, Fenrir became enraged and bit off Týr's hand.
Once they were sure that gleipnir would hold him, they tied it to a stone, anchored deeply into the ground of the island, and left him there to remain enchained until Ragnarok.
Personality:
Fenrir is a lot more complicated than he first appears, at first glance he's quiet, sullen and quick to anger. He also probably seems a little dense, not exactly a deep thinker, way more brains than brawn.
Once people get to know him, which is a rare occurance as he's prone to pushing them away and keeping his distance, they might come to realise that there is a lot lurking beneath the surface. He's angry and sullen because his future is decided for him, because he is destined to do something he doesn't want to do, and feels like his entire character is decided based on that one action. He feels he's expected to be snappy, to be bad, and that he can't get away from that image - it doesn't help that he has a very short fuse and gets angry easily.
He thinks more philosophically than people might think, but rarely voices what's really going on inside his head, prefering to keep his own counsel. He doesn't like change, or things that he doesn't instantly understand, so new places take him a while to adjust to.
It's rare to see him smiling or playful, he's often very serious even when doing something he enjoys, and he's definitely more the lone wolf type than much of a pack animal. He's untrusting, he's had little reason to trust most of the people he's encountered in the past, so he isn't inclined to start now.
That all said, though he distances himself from people and mistrusts them, deep down he is genuinely lonely. He longs for someone that he feels he can trust, he's just too scared to take the leap and let anybody in.
Other: Fenrir is technically a wolf, and while most of the time he'll remain that way, I do have a humanised PB for him and if he's physically mingling with other people I'd like to be able to make use of that. His father is a shapeshifter so it's a logical possibility that he's inherited that, as long as that's ok with the mods. Though a worldhopper would have to come and free him in order for him to leave the island.
(this would probably be a private entry, as he says, he's not very chatty)
I don't talk much, more my dad's thing. Talking never does anything for me anyway. Guess I don't have much choice in this situation, this seems designed to make people have to say more than they want to, can't just give a look or a gesture, need all the words to explain it instead. I don't really like that, but this is my only contact with anything that isn't on this one tiny island, so I can't just turn my back on it
Instead I'll say what my face should be saying for me. I'm not happy, and there's not a lot I can do about it. Nowhere else for me to go, not until the end of the world.
I don't even like heather.
Third Person:
Fenrir paced restlessly, about the only exercise that his bonds allowed him, and even that was barely around the whole of the island. He hated the way his thoughts went round in circles here, it was so hard to find a fresh perspective on an idea when you were looking at the same view all day, every day. Day, night, weather... it barely changed anything.
He'd thought about a lot of things, what else did he have time for? The gods thought of him as nothing more than a nuisance, the thing that would kill Odin, he wondered if they thought him capable of anything philosophical, but anybody would be after that long alone, whether they'd been previously inclined to or not.
Now, though... now he had an option for something more, for contact, for a sort of company, and he longed for it, part of him, but that was where his indecision came from. It caused him concern, as well, what had company done for him in the past? Had being around the gods done him any good? They had feared him and mocked him and eventually bound him alone in this place, perhaps he should simply stay here. Did that mean everybody would be like the gods?
He stopped his pacing abruptly and flopped to the ground, growling at himself. It was a ridiculous argument and he'd been over it more times than he cared to count. What could these people do? Exile him again? What fate was worse than the one he already suffered? On the other hand, their company could be... well it could be a good thing for him. It could make things, dare he think it, better.
