Personality: Appropriately, as Narukami's five main stats--Courage, Expression, Understanding, Diligence, and Knowledge--increase, he undergoes subtle changes in his personality. However, a constant is that he is largely unfazed by even the most earth-shattering of events. When he discoveres his hand is able to pass through television screens as if they're made of a whole lot of nothing, his initial response is a calm but interested 'I think I can go further in.' When Teddie's head comes off to reveal what is essentially an empty living mascot, Narukami's reaction is to simply walk over and place his head back on as though there is nothing odd about the situation. This particular incident is remarkable because it prompts Yosuke to ask 'does anything faze you?!', to which Narukami simply looks at him as if all he'd done was the obvious and sane thing to do. In addition, his stoicism occasionally lends itself to deadpan snarking. At one point he reaches through the TV and is bitten by Teddie, and upon a concerned Chie asking if he was alright his response was 'It's making me cry'. with barely any inflection or change in expression.
However, the fact that he is generally calm and unaffected by a great deal of things does not equal out to being uncaring. Quite the contrary, as Narukami proves himself to care a great deal for people. When those around him are in need of it, he readily offers reassurance and support, eventually going above and beyond the call of duty; he spends most of the summer with various people around Inaba helping them work through their collection of issues. This culminates in the summer festival when he does everything from returning a lost comb, admisitering first aid to a head wound recipient, and retrieving stolen fireworks. It rapidly becomes apparent that he does care a considerable amount for those close to him in particular and the people of Inaba in general.
Narukami quickly becomes the cornerstone of the group investigating the Midnight Channel and their connection to the murders in Inaba. As time goes on it is safe to say the entire party looks to him as their leader and follows his direction whatever the situation. Coming into play slowly over time are his previously mentioned five statistics. As they increase, so do the given aspects of his personality; though Narukami remains calm and a little sarcastic, as time passes he becomes slightly more open. Where early-series Narukami doesn't actually speak all that much save for (usually) when it's important, as his Expression and Courage are shown to increase he both speaks more often and takes more obvious risks (ex. the valiant but failed command to stand their ground after the male party members mistakenly walk in on the women in a hot spring) as opposed to being generally reserved and quiet.
In short, Yu Narukami is more often than not a calm and stoic individual prone to smartmouthed remarks, but caring enough to go out of his way to help those in need of it however possible. In fairness, increasing his bonds with people allows him to unlock new and more powerful Personas, but really, who's keeping track?
