Fandom: King of Fighters
Character Notes:
History: Not much is really said about Athena's history. She spent most of her life in the mountains of China, training under Chin Gentsai. Chin Gentsai was originally the teacher of Athena's childhood friend, Kensou Sie. He agreed to take Athena on as a student and train her in the ways of fighting. As it turns out, Athena had been gifted with a variety of psychic powers which Chin helped her to hone to be able to use them in battle. There was only so much that could be taught from on top of a mountain, however. Chin decided that in order to further their training, they needed to fight against outside opponents.
At least, that was one of the reasons. Another reason that they entered the tournaments was to dispell any evil energy that they might feel during their matches. Where great powers met, there was bound to be those who wanting to take them over and cause harm. It was the duty of those who had the ability to sense these threats to save the normal people of the world. So, accompanying both Chin and Kensou, Athena entered the King of Fighters tournament under the team name "Psycho Soldier". The team did surprisingly well in the tournament and defeated Rugal, who had been consumed by his own evil to gain more power. As he disappeared, he left behind foreboding words for the team: humanity was destined for destruction and he would eventually return. Athena asked her master if humanity was really doomed, as Rugal had said. Chin put his students minds at ease, saying that while everyone had their own evil, they could always overcome it if they were strong enough. Feeling better, they headed back to their home.
Before the King of Fighters tournament, Chin picked up on a distinct evil energy. It was an ill omen and he refused to allow his students to enter the tournament because of this. However, the fact that there was a real evil so nearby only made both Athena and Kensou want to enter all the more. Their enthusiasm to enter the King of Fighters tournament again surprised Chin and he agreed to allow them to enter. The team made their way through the tournament and as they neared the end, they were greeted by an unfamiliar woman. She told them that she was the one who had held this tournaments and that she had hoped she would get to see the power that defeated Rugal. The team was confused about how this woman knew that about Rugal at all. She told them that it wasn't important and that they needed to realize that Rugal had self destructed. It wasn't their strength that actually took him out. They asked again who she was and she told them that she was Kagura, the guardian. However, she wanted to see their true power. If that was all they had, they would part ways there. The group agreed and fought with the woman.
After Athena and the others defeated Kagura, she informed them that the power that Rugal had been seeking was the Orochi power. She was the guardian of that power. Rugal had only siphoned some of that power and used it, rather than releasing it all. The purpose of holding the tournament was so she could see the people who had defeated the mighty Rugal and test them herself. She needed their help in sealing off the Orochi power, as she couldn't do it herself. Kagura said there was no time left and that she could feel him coming. The one she was speaking of was the person who had taken Rugal's eye and released the power. Suddenly, a disturbance surrounded the team and Kagura pleaded once again for the team to lend her their help. A man appeared before them, calling himself Goenitz. Apparently, he had been watching them throughout the tournament as well and was there to stop them. Athena couldn't just let him have his way, so she and the others fought Goenitz. While they did win the fight, Goenitz discouraged them from walking the path to seal off the Orochi's power. He told them that it was a task that could never be accomplished. Soon after, he disappeared, saying he was being called away to heaven. While it was unclear if he had died or not, both he and Kagura were now gone.
Athena had to wonder about the validity of what Goenitz had said to them. Was humanity really just a plague on the Earth, causing destruction wherever they went? Chin assured her that while humanity could be destructive, it also had the capability to change. He then said that he was tired and needed a break, collapsing right where he was. Kensou and Athena worried that it had been too much on their old master, but upon further inspection, the old man had simply fallen asleep. Kensou woke Chin up and began arguing with him, leaving Athena to mediate between the two. When they could, they headed back to China to continue their training.
Due to their success in the King of Fighters tournaments, Team Psycho Soldier had shot up in popularity. They recieved tons of fanmail from people who had decided to show their support to the team. Among the fans, Athena was a particular favorite and quickly rose in popularity and stardom. When Athena and Kensou asked that the team enter the tournament again in the following year, Chin refused. All of the popularity and flash of the tournament was just serving as a distraction from their training.
In an attempt to change his mind, Athena presented him with a letter from one particular fan named Kaoru Watabe. Kaoru had been hospitalized due to a disease and had lost the ability to move her legs. She had become distant, giving up on even trying to recover...That is, until she saw the televised King of Fighters tournament and saw Athena's determination. It inspired her to begin trying to recover again and continue her studies. She said that she would be cheering for them in the next tournament. It was proof that Athena presented that their entrance in these televised tournaments was causing people to change, doing things for good. Faced with this letter and Athena's passionate argument, Chin felt he had no choice but to enter Team Psycho Soldier back in the King of Fighters tournament.
Personality: Athena is a very high spirited girl. She is bright and cheerful, truly an optimist at heart. The fact that she is very cheerful and outgoing only seems to make others like her all the more. Due to the King of Fighters tournaments being televised, she has gotten much more popular and gained many fans. People were given the chance to see how inspirational she is an immediately took to her. Friendly and approachable, Athena tries to make friends with everyone. Not only that, she seems to be fairly popular in school, also, even without the publicity from the tournaments. She sees the good in people and believes that they will do what is right, even if they don't believe that is the case themselves. She tries her best to encourage others, even telling complimenting the people she has defeated in tournaments on giving her a good fight. Above all, she cares for her friends, family, and even fans, deeply. Athena will go to any lengths to protect them or not disappoint them.
With her cheerful, upbeat nature also comes a defined sense of justice and righteous beliefs. Generally, she is very polite and well mannered, speaking to everyone in the formal She believes that good will ultimately prevail over the evil in the world. To Athena, it is the duty of those gifted with the ability to fight and those who have special powers to protect the world from threats that might put the world in jeopardy. For her, this is something that is accepted easily and she willingly fights and uses her powers to help others. Because of her psychic powers, she can read the minds of others. In some cases, she can even feel what they are feeling. This usually causes her to be very empathetic toward people. She tries to help whenever she feels someone needs help, whether it's wanted or not.
Even with the good qualities, Athena does have her faults. She has a sense of pride in her abilities as both a fighter and a singer, and thus isn't afraid to inform others of how good she is. Athena likes to keep other people's eyes on her, which is one reason she enjoys working as an idol and appearing in the King of Fighters tournaments. She also can be a bit whiney at times if things don't go the way she thinks they should. She has been seen to get intimidated during some fights, even though she has trained for most of her life under Chin. When it comes to matters of right and wrong, she sometimes questions herself. Are the things she does truly right? Should she be looking at a situation another way? Questions like these make her reconsider the way she has thought and can confuse her. Even so, she usually comes around by herself and regains her confidence in her actions and beliefs. When it comes to other people's actions, she can be a bit judgemental due to her strong beliefs in what is right and wrong. She has been seen more than once judging her childhood friend and teammate Kensou for not spending as much time in practice as he should or not focusing during battle as he should.

Mind Reading: Athena has the ability to read the minds of others, hearing their thoughts and sometimes feeling their emotions.
Teleportation: She is able to teleport from one place to another as long as she knows the place she is teleporting to.
Telekinesis/Psychokinesis: Athena can move things through sheer willpower alone.
Psychic Projectiles: Athena can form balls, swords, and even small barriers around her hands in order to attack her oponents.
Psychic Healing: She can heal herself and others with her psychic powers.
Psychic Barrier: She can create a barrier made of energy to repell people or things coming toward her.
Ability to sense danger: She can use this ability to sense people in danger or see the future. It's limited, as she can't control when or where she gets premonitions or the sense of danger.

But honestly? I'm really looking forward to testing my skills against the others!
There are so many interesting people at the tournament! Men, women, children...it doesn't matter. Anyone is allowed to enter the tournament. I enjoy seeing the different teams and usually they are pretty friendly. Usually. They sometimes get cranky if you beat them too much in the ring, like I do! I'm starting to know them a little better since we've been going to the King of Fighters tournaments. The person I'm really interested in seeing is Kyo Kusanagi.
...It's not like that! Really! I'm just worried about him. He and Yagami-san are constantly at each others throats. Sometimes, the powers they have within them get out of control and they have to be stopped. I sense a deep disturbance within Yagami-san, but I haven't been able to get close enough to him to try and see what the cause of it is. If they show up for this tournament, and I know they will, I'm going to try and see what I can do to help them.
Well, in any case, I hope everyone will continue to cheer me on and support me! You can count on Athena and the rest of the Psycho Soldiers to win next time, too!
Third Person: "I'm sorry! I have to go!" Athena apologized to her manager, running out the door while pushing the red headband up on her head. Her schedule had gotten a bit hectic lately. When she wasn't training, she was performing at various places for her adoring fans. When she wasn't doing that, she had school to worry about. And when she wasn't doing -that-, she was participating in the King of Fighters tournament. Since team Psycho Soldier had been participating in the tournaments, it just seemed like she never had enough time. Today, she had just finished a performance and had to get to the King of Fighters tournament. Thankfully she was familiar with where it was being held, so teleporting would be possible. She hopped into the air and disappeared, causing the people who had been in the hallway to pause and rub their eyes. They were even more bewildered when they realized this wasn't a dream.
Athena dropped back down onto the ground in a completely different place. It was a location that was familiar to her. It was a large building with tall, ominous looking doors. Outside, there seemed to be people standing around, waiting to be admitted inside. Athena took a moment to scan the crowd, looking for her Master and Kensou. Once they were located, she ran over to them and placed a hand behind her head with a sheepish smile. "Sorry I'm late. Athena is here~!" Kensou seemed glad to see her, giving her a big smile and a hello. Her master, however, only briefly scolded her for not being there when she said she would. Athena's eyes were already on her competitors. There were some new faces and some familiar faces there. It was a good turnout this time! Without any hesitation, Athena turned around and lifted a hand into the air to wave at everyone, a cute smile on her face.
"Hello, everyone! Let's give it our best this year, too, alright?"

Kensou entered shortly after and plopped himself down onto the floor unceremoniously. Athena turned, placing her hands on her hips while she drew her lips into a small, but cute, pout. "Kensou! What took you so long getting here?" She said, scolding him. "You better not have been slacking again or you'll never be able to beat me!" Kensou laughed nervously and rubbed the back of his head. The old man yawned sleepily and spoke. "What was I doing? Oh yes...Athena, Kensou..." He started, slowly but surely taking on a serious expression. "I've been sensing a disturbing amount of negative energy coming closer this way. I can't tell what it is, but you need to be careful." Athena turned her violet eyes toward Kensou, and Kensou looked at her. Then the two looked back at the old man. "How far away is the source?" Kensou asked, looking a little worried. Chin reached up and twirled his mustache in thought, then said, "The source is in the area. It's slowly approaching this temple. Should it reach here..." He trailed off, glancing toward Kaoru, who was making tea behind him.
Athena shook her head, clenching a fist in determination. "Don't worry about a thing, Master. We'll go and see to whatever is causing such a disturbance. Balance will be restored!" She said, the very fire of justice seeming to be ignited within her eyes. They couldn't let anything happen to their home. Not only that, Kaoru was there and she had only just learned how to walk. She wouldn't be able to defend herself. Athena just couldn't let anything happen to one of her dear fans, who had inspired them all during the last King of Fighters tournament. She turned, looking at Kensou. "We'll go patrol the mountainside once we leave here. The two of us should be plenty to handle whatever this is!" He nodded, agreeing with her and pushed himself to a stand. Athena turned back towards their Master and Kaoru, who was now looking a touch worried. She winked at the two and lifted her fist up into the air, almost triumphantly.
"Don't worry! You can leave this to Athena!" She announced, looking horribly cute. Then, as an after thought added, "...Oh. And Kensou, too." Kensou went ignored as he dropped his head down, looking completely exasperated.
