Revised Personality!

Personality: Haibara is a sarcastic, mostly distrustful person, though she does have an honorable side. She also seems fatalistic and cynical, often saying very morbid things in front of Conan, and sometimes the Shounen Tantei. She is closed off, often only talking about herself or her history when prompted by the others, rarely if ever just offering it. She is comfortable around Conan, but keeps most people at arm’s length, possibly out of fear of either her getting hurt or others getting hurt because of her.

She is very fond of animals, though dogs are the ones she is most attracted to. They really are the things she shows her softer side to most often, because it does exist. She’s very attached to the dog that Hakuba Saguru gave her early into her time on the community, always smiling when she’s around.

After three years in the community and a few viruses/events (The Family Virus and the first Shadow Event in particular) she has opened up slightly, but not as much as some others. Meeting Hakuba and discovering he is her cousin was a key moment, as it told her that she wasn’t the last of her family. Meeting Naoto Shirogane and England also went a long way to helping, as was shown during the first Shadow Event, proving to her that people who had no stake in her world or situation were willing to help her and stay by her no matter what. This has made her open up some, the event itself forcing her to look at her life and her choices and making her realize that hiding forever isn’t an option. Mouri Ran’s behavior on the community during her time there could have undone everything that was accomplished to that point, given her canon closeness to the girl, but the changes stuck.

This went further during the Family Virus, letting her experience what a normal childhood was like, one that didn’t involve mysterious organizations with obscure goals. During that she became very close to Kamina, who the virus had cast in the father role. When the virus wore off and after a few weeks, she started calling him Papa, effectively letting go of the deaths of her own parents when she was a child the first time. All of this culminates in moving off world to stay with Ezio for a while, someone she technically barely knows but trusts because Kamina likes him. She also intends to stay with him through as much of Ezio’s canon as she can, simply because she understands losing (most of) your whole family in one swoop, something she would never have done before the community.

However, even after three years she still wishes that she could return to her normal body and lead what semblance of a normal life she can manage. She’s not in as much of a hurry to change this as she once was, having become used to her situation. She’s close to accepting this as her new normal.
