History: There was once a man named Kinzo Ushiromiya who took over the Ushiromiya family after the family had great misfortune. He was picked from a surviving branch family based only on the fact he was born with six toes on each foot. This man was a puppet leader, he married and had several children. Then he went to war in World War 2.
Soon after the war, he eventually built back the Ushiromiya wealth.
However, this story doesn't begin with Kinzo but with his two oldest children: Eva Ushiromiya and Krauss Ushiromiya. (Kinzo loved the west and gave all four children western names.) Krauss was the oldest son and Eva was the oldest daughter. Krauss, by virtue of the fact that he was oldest son, was unofficially known as the successor to Kinzo.
Eva was unamused. She thought herself better than him and often tried to make passes at being the successor. Her grades were better than Krauss, she became more popular in school. Kinzo denied these achievements saying they weren't fit for a daughter and because Eva chased them, she was unfit. By the time she was a young woman trying to go to college, he threatened to disown her if she went.
In middle school, however, something changed. Eva at that time believed in magic, in witches. She also believed there was a witch living inside her. Maybe this witch was an imaginary friend or a split personality, certainly her life was rough enough for such a thing to happen. This witch was created from Eva's hatred of her brother, of her wanting to become the next leader of the Ushiromiya family, of her desire to become better.
This witch helped fuel her ambitions for many years with her 'magic'. It seems that most of this was in the form of taunting Eva and using her hatred of others as fuel for becoming smarter or stronger.
This being would eventually become EVA-Beatrice, a cruel witch that would eventually bring great tragedy upon the Ushiromiya family.
Perhaps Eva outgrew her help for a while as it seems that she didn't communicate with her until she became a young woman. Krauss argued with Eva about her plans to go to college. The Ushiromiya family was of the mind that women shouldn't educate themselves. Eva, wanting to still prove her worth, wanted to go to show that she was far more clever than her brother.
Krauss said that a woman with a college education was like black tea with sugar. As you can drink black tea without sugar, it was highly insulting. Krauss also went on to insult the fact that Eva was trying to learn "brawling" (martial arts). Eva argued that it wasn't just fighting but also a mental exercise.
Kinzo overheard the argument, coming into the fight. He yelled at both Krauss and Eva. Krauss wasn't really a man and Eva was worthless as a woman, he roared. He lamented the fact that these two were his oldest children. Eventually he fell into a coughing fit. Krauss moved to help him. Eva followed suit but Krauss told her that it perhaps would be better to stay out of it.
So Eva left the main mansion in a huff. The result of this fight was simple. The witch inside of her returned, briefly. The witch argued that they could still become the head of the family. That they weren't done yet. Eva rejected the witch, saying the most practical way of beating Krauss wasn't trying to be the next head of the Ushiromiya family. That line of thinking would only get her disowned by Kinzo.
The witch was put aside and then Eva met her future husband, Hideyoshi. She would eventually marry this man and have a son (George). In marrying Hideyoshi, she managed to convince Kinzo to let Hideyoshi change his last name to Ushiromiya instead of the other way around so she could keep the name and her position. In going this route she abandoned the dreams that she and the witch shared; that they would take the leadership of the Ushiromiya family away from Krauss themselves alone. Instead, she chose the goal of George becoming the head of the Ushiromiya family instead of Krauss's daughter, Jessica.
Eva never spoke of the witch that was born when she was in middle school. Not even to Hideyoshi, the man that helped her cope with the stress of her childhood.
The witch was neglected again, the promise Eva made to her was forgotten. If this being was merely an imaginary friend, nothing would have come of it. Yet things during the 1986 family conference in October would force Eva to admit that the witch was a cruel one - and terrifyingly real.
On the way to the family conference on the private island of Rokkenjima, Eva fell asleep on the boat. She dreamed of the argument with Kinzo and Krauss. Of how the witch came back. Then the witch began speaking to her once again, admonishing her for changing her goals of letting her son becoming head. Eva tells the witch that this is the only way she can let her family overcome Krauss's. George is a man and Jessica isn't, she says. Then she retracts that statement because that would be forcing the role she was in onto Jessica and realizes that's not fair for her.
The witch says that it's not too late. They still have a single chance, she says. She reminds Eva of the old legend of how Kinzo brought the Ushiromiya family out of ruin. That a witch gave him ten tons of gold and how that not long ago Kinzo put up a portrait of the witch, Beatrice, in the entrance hall of the mansion. Underneath was an epitaph, a riddle. The witch says clearly that if Eva solves this riddle then she will become the next head of the family.
Eva wakes up suddenly. Hideyoshi manages to keep the rest of the people on the boat away from her while she calms down. They get off the boat but the witch makes her presence known by simply whispering 'welcome home'. Eva is the only one who can hear it but it's enough to make her wary.
The family conference has never been a peaceful place. The one of 1986 was even more tense than usual and not just because a typhoon was coming. Kinzo was near death and the siblings were all in dire need of money for various reasons. Eva and her two other siblings, Rosa and Rudolf, believed that Krauss was stealing money to fund numerous projects. They had planned on making Krauss give them money to stay quiet.
But things never go according to plan.
Maria, Rosa's daughter, delivered a note during dinner. A note, she said, came from the witch of Rokkenjima: Beatrice the Golden. The note simply said that she, Beatrice, would take everything from the Ushiromiya family if someone didn't solve the riddle of the portrait. This was the chance that the witch inside Eva was looking for.
Before anything could be done about the riddle, however, a very puzzling event happened. All the servants and Kinzo (his charred corpse, at least) were found dead in a series of locked rooms. (One body plus the key for the next room with a body and so forth.) They seemed to be murdered.
This forced the parents, the family doctor, and all of the cousins, to retreat to the guest house. The four siblings had brought guns taken from Kinzo's gun collection. Most of them believed that this was a charade put on by Kinzo, it wasn't out of character for him. To pass the time, everyone decided to try to solve the riddle. Nobody seemed to get very far and they quit.
During this time, pushed on by the witch inside her, Eva retreated to the library inside the guest house and figured out the rest of the riddle. She then made her way to where the hidden gold was: both Eva and the witch were incredibly happy about this turn of events.
But Eva couldn't stay there, the others would think something was off so she made her way to leave. On the way back she met Rosa. Rosa had also solved the riddle and, in fact, had given Eva a vital clue to solving the riddle. Eva agreed that she would give Rosa her share but they needed to wait for a bit before revealing the discovery. Rosa stated she didn't care along as she got her fair share.
The witch, left behind once again, heard this and asked, "What about me?" Neither Rosa or Eva heard her. Someone, however, did. Beatrice.
Beatrice, the Golden and Endless Witch, appeared before the young witch. She said that the whoever found the gold would become the next Endless Witch. That she, Beatrice, would give them her title, the gold, and all the powers of the Endless Witch. Not to mention Beatrice's servants.
Thus the new master of Rokkenjima, EVA-Beatrice, was named. From that moment forth she was not merely the witch inside of Eva Ushiromiya, she was her own being. Seperate.
There was one thing, however, Beatrice told her. To make her powers complete she had to complete the ritual that Beatrice started. Namely, sacrificing the people on Rokkenjima based on the epitaph. (Six people, then two people, then five more people seperately.) Beatrice had already killed six but EVA-Beatrice needed to kill eight more to make her power complete.
Until the ceremony was over, EVA-Beatrice could only use her powers if she drained the life out of Eva. Eva began to feel quite ill, coming down with a high fever. She and Hideyoshi retreated to their room in the guest house. Eva finally told him about the witch inside her. He laughed it off but stayed by her side.
During this, Maria began to throw a tantrum. She wanted to see a rose in the garden. Rosa tried to calm her down but nothing would work. Humilated, Rosa dragged her into the hall where Maria's tantrum bothered Eva. Hideyoshi told Rosa to quiet her down, that Eva was quite sick and needed rest.
Rosa gave up. She asked Maria what she needed to do to make her calm down. Maria said she needed to see the rose. Rosa, tiredly, agreed. She had a gun with her and there probably was no murderer. Her father probably had pulled an elobarate prank. Even if there was a murderer, she had the gun. Thinking this, Rosa and Maria went outside into the storm.
Maria managed to find the rose. Rosa, holding an umbrella in one hand and the gun in the other stood around annoyed. She wouldn't go back until Maria was satisfied or she would risk another tantrum. Rosa sensed they were being watched and, sure enough, she saw another umbrella. That umbrella belonged to Eva.
Or rather, EVA-Beatrice disguised as Eva. EVA-Beatrice normally looks like a very young Eva. In this instance, though, she disguised herself as the original.
Rosa thought that Eva had followed them to discuss the gold. Maria was confused. While Eva laughed at the fact that Rosa seemed to think that she deserved any of the gold, Maria tilted her head. The girl was very sensitive to magic and knew Beatrice personally, being one of her students. Maria asked the simple question, "Who are you, aunt?"
EVA-Beatrice threw away her disguise in a moment and appeared in her true form. Claiming that she was Beatrice (which was true), she declared that both Maria and Rosa would be the victims of the Second Twilight ("the two who are close will be torn apart"). What results is EVA-Beatrice testing out her powers of magic for the first time: she repeatedly kills and revives both Rosa and Maria in various ways. (Flying with Rosa and then letting her drop many feet to the ground into a rose bush, feeding Rosa to a spider, crushing her beneath a mountain of cake, and so forth.)
While great fun for EVA-Beatrice, those watching had a different view. Looking in on this was Beatrice and Battler, who had been playing against Beatrice in a game to prove the existence of witches. Battler took issue with EVA-Beatrice's methods and the fact that Beatrice seemed to enjoy them.
This led Beatrice to intervene. Telling EVA-Beatrice that a witch also needed to be elegant, Beatrice asked if she could finish the two off. EVA-Beatrice (for the rest of this application she will be reffered to as simply EVA; Eva Ushiromiya will be reffered to as Eva) agreed. EVA had heard about Beatrice's cruelty and wanted to see what would happen.
Beatrice strangled Maria and let Rosa off by impaling her on a fence post. While effective it was far from what EVA wanted. Beatrice explained that it was just her being fickle: a witch had to be elegant as well as cruel. Sometimes not overdoing it was best. In fact, she told EVA to keep the cruelty to a minimum as well as ordering EVA's new servants that they were to kill more 'elegantly'. EVA, taken aback, agreed. Beatrice left and EVA continued on.
EVA-Beatrice | Umineko no Naku Koro ni | Not reserved 3/?
When the two bodies were found the remaining survivors were sure that the original six murders were real and that a murderer was waiting to kill them. Eva, due to EVA's involvement was very uneasy. She had seen what EVA had done to her sister and niece during her fever dreams.
EVA appeared once more to her gloating that she did kill both Rosa and Maria. Eva told her to stop, that she was being stupid. Their dreams were granted so why go about killing people? EVA argued that Eva's dreams were granted but her own, singular, wish of being a witch was in the process of being granted. That Eva had forgotten this original wish in favor of becoming an adult.
Eva didn't care. She tried reasoning with the witch that she was very thankful for her help but it was time to go back inside her heart and never appear again. EVA's answer was simple: "No." She promised not to kill Hideyoshi or George but the others were fair game and left.
Eva fell to the ground yelling that no one should leave the guest house or the witch would get them. Hideyoshi stopped her, so that she could rest.
Beatrice came to EVA once again, saying that the game was about to get harder. EVA explained that she had a plan to split up the group already and didn't listen anymore.
Her plan was eventually was set into motion: Kyrie, Rudolf, and Hideyoshi (who left Eva in their room) left for the main mansion to get food from the kitchen. Kyrie had a cart and the two men had guns. However, this was playing straight into EVA's hands. As soon as they entered the mansion she closed off the mansion in a barrier. No one could escape.
Ronove, Beatrice's butler, worked for EVA at this point. He advised her that she had to kill the next five in a very specific way: to be killed by one of Beatrice's seven servants, the Seven Stakes of Purgatory. EVA waved it off and summoned two of the Stakes, Belphegor and Leviathan.
Belphegor was told to kill Rudolf and Leviathan to kill Kyrie. Hideyoshi was to be left alone. Kyrie managed to defeat Leviathan. Rudolf killed Belphegor when he was aiming for EVA - Belphegor stepped between them and took the bullet. To say EVA was annoyed is an understatement. She decided that she would only use the remaining Stakes to gouge at the corpses and summoned new servants that would serve only her: the Seista Sisters, two bunny-eared girls that had sniper like weaponry. Kyrie tried to shoot EVA but the barrier had blocked it in mid-air. Then both Kyrie and Rudolf ran deeper into the mansion.
The Seistas first order? To kill the runaways and drag their corpses back so EVA could revive them until she got bored.
It took seconds. EVA began 'playing' with her brother and his wife like she did Rosa. Beatrice showed herself again, wondering exactly what EVA was doing. EVA simply shook off all of Beatrice's concerns and orders. She had become her own witch and had no need of Beatrice anymore.
Rejected, Beatrice left again.
EVA had forgotten all about Hideyoshi. Hideyoshi had hidden himself and watched the entire thing. He eventually showed himself to EVA.
He yelled at her, wanting to know why 'Eva' was doing this. Was there so much gold that it turned her into a monster? It made no sense to him! Hideyoshi grabbed EVA and began yelling at her to go back to Eva. This...was unacceptable to her. She had seperated herself from Eva and this man was telling her to go back?
Hideyoshi was shot in the back by one of the forgotten guns. EVA had broken her promise with her other self and had killed her husband. Disgusted, she had Ronove prepare the three bodies for the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth sacrifices.
It didn't take long for Eva to wake up and notice that Hideyoshi was gone. After raising a fuss, she took her son, the doctor, and Battler to the mansion to look for the three. They found the bodies and grieved.
They returned to the guesthouse. Jessica, Nanjo, Battler, and George went to the second floor while the three last parents stayed on the first. During this time George eventually went into the hallway of the second floor and met Beatrice. Beatrice, because she wanted to prove herself a witch to Battler, guided George back to where Shannon's body was.
She was going to bring Shannon back to life. EVA was outside the guesthouse with the Seista Sisters, Ronove, and the leader of the Stakes of Purgatory, Lucifer. The Seista Sisters were readying themselves to kill Natsuhi and Krauss inside the guesthouse. EVA barely noticed Beatrice and George go past them. She asked others if the sensed something. The Sisters were too busy to notice and Ronove lied.
The next events were quick. EVA and Eva had another argument while Eva fell asleep. Eva had denied that EVA existed and that she was only a fantasy, a whisper of Eva's own evil heart. Soon after that Eva woke up and went to the bathroom.
The Seista Sisters took that moment to kill Natsuhi and Krauss. Their bodies were dragged to a terrace outside and left for the others to find.
In the mansion Beatrice revived Shanon. George and Shanon were reunited for a mere moment before they both were killed by the Seista Sisters. Beatrice, too, was inside that room and almost killed. Her teacher, Virgilia, showed up and took the fatal blow allowing the weakened Beatrice to escape.
It didn't take long for the remaining people (Jessica, Battler, Nanjo, and Eva) to notice something was wrong in the guesthouse. They went outside and found the corpses of Jessica's parents. Then they went looking for George.
They found him in the room that Shanon had been found dead. Dead. Jessica decided that Eva was the culprit and confronted her, even if Eva had a gun. Battler and Nanjo tried to keep the peace.
It didn't work. The gun went off accidentally; the flash blinded Jessica. Nanjo took Jessica to the servant's room so he could keep treat her without Eva around. Jessica and Battler went off to search the mansion for the culprit.
After wrapping a bandage around Jessica's eyes and leaving the room, Nanjo met EVA outside the room. She killed him instantly and warned Jessica that once she was done playing with his corpse that she was going to die next.
This would have been true if Beatrice had died alongside Shanon and George. But she had escaped to the chapel, where Kanon's corpse was. Beatrice was too weak to re-animate him like Shanon but was able to create a ghost, guiding him to Jessica. Together they managed to lead Jessica to the room where George and Shanon's bodies were. Hiding in the curtains, Kanon and Jessica began talking.
Beatrice went outside to make sure that EVA couldn't enter. It wasn't long before EVA noticed Beatrice and ordered the Seista Sisters to attack but not kill. EVA tried to get answers, Beatrice only would say that EVA wasn't a true witch. Not yet.
This only made her more angry. EVA had the Seista Sisters torture her a bit before going for the final blow. Beatrice didn't die. This scared the Sisters and they ran. EVA moved in for the final blow and before she could land it...
Battler calls her to the room outside the island that he had been fighting Beatrice in. Instead of Beatrice, EVA is to be his new opponent.
Battler fought against her with words for a bit, winning as EVA was new at this type of fighting. EVA reversed it soon enough, though. Though she could never deny that Eva wasn't behind the crimes as, technically, EVA and Eva could be said to be the same person.
EVA is about to win when Beatrice steps in. Before saying her trump card, she turns to Battler and asks him to cover his ears. With that, Beatrice denies magic and EVA is defeated.
But this isn't the end for her.
Eva is the only one to survive the tragedy. She never speaks of what happens, even if she writes down what happened in her diary. The most reasonable explanation for what happened back on Rokkenjima? Eva Ushiromiya killed everyone.
From this, this Eva Culprit Theory, EVA is given a new role. She is the guardian of the mystery. If the mystery of Rokkenjima is a cat box then EVA is the lid, keeping everything secret.
What does this mean?
When Eva returns, she adopts Ange, Kyrie and Rudolf's daughter. However, Eva can't tell Ange what happened. A possible explanation for this is that the real culprits are Kyrie and Rudolf.
So Eva takes on the role of the 'culprit' to the media. Not by confirming that she did it (it couldn't be proven either way). But by slowly acting like EVA. Becoming more cruel to Ange, more greedy in business. Eventually dying hated and alone in a hospital room.
But what about EVA?
EVA-Beatrice | Umineko no Naku Koro ni | Not reserved 4/5
EVA has, ah, tagged along for those twelve years. The only one knowing about her being Eva but when Eva dies and passes the Ushiromiya wealth to Ange? She stays hidden until Ange goes to Rokkenjima, followed by Kyrie's relatives who are basically criminals wanting the wealth for themselves.
EVA appears when Ange's other aunt, Kasumi, and several armed men surrounds Ange. EVA persuades them with her magic to attack her, to beat her, to shoot her. Ange isn't helpless. When EVA goes too far, the Seven Stakes of Purgatory attack. The Stakes, under Ange's control, protect her and kill all the attackers.
Leaving only EVA. EVA and Ange face each other. EVA takes on the shape of Eva and attacks Ange with a gun. Mammon, of the Seven Stakes, destroys the gun as soon as EVA shoots. It blows up in her face. Ange finishes her.
EVA has a cameo later on where George confronts Eva about marrying Shannon. EVA takes control and beats George into submission. Though, George isn't killed. He reverses the fight and kills EVA. This fight is a metaphor for Eva's smothering type of mothering.
As this is where the others in the cast are, canon-wise, this is where I will leave the history.
Personality: When talking about EVA, there are two things to remember: one, she was originally created from Eva Ushiromiya and the second is that she's mentally a child.
EVA-Beatrice, in the beginning, is a more helpful entity. She agrees with Eva, helping with her goals. Defending her by attacking her enemies verbally: saying things that Eva wants to say but can't. In this way, when EVA's at her best she can still be cruel but helpful to those that are on her good side. Even when she's torturing Rosa, she believes she's granting Rosa's wishes by killing her in ways similar to dreams that Rosa had when she was a young girl. She shows this again a bit later on in the story, during the final chapter of Umineko.
However, to most people, this isn't the case.
EVA acts selfishly; repeatedly mentioning she has all the power and money, that no one can have it. Her cruel nature grows over time, the narration even likens it to a person becoming addicted to drugs. She even gives a metaphor it: of wondering what was inside a stuffed animal and slicing open it's belly to find out. Of course a person can't do that because then the beloved toy would be gone forever, broken...but because EVA is the Endless Witch, she can revive the dead or endlessly repair the 'stuffed animal' so there's no harm in slicing it open.
This goes back to the statement that, mentally, EVA-Beatrice is still much like a child. A child doesn't think much of torturing ants or pulling the wings of dragonflies but most of the time they grow out of that phase. They learn the value of life.
Hideyoshi, himself, brings up this example when he confronts EVA-Beatrice. She isn't cruel, he says. She's a coward and weak because she torments people who are weaker than her. That she doesn't realize the fragile thing life really is. That she needs to respect life. That she'll never grow up because of this.
To EVA, it's the opposite. She'll 'never grow up' because she believes in magic. She doesn't think of herself as cruel.
However, when this is brought up, she grows discontent and angry. Like a child, she doesn't like being reprimanded. She lives her life the way she wants and no one should be able to tell her different. This leads to a couple of similarities she has with Eva: her quick temper and her disdain for 'old things'.
Her dislike for 'old things' comes down to the past abuse from Krauss and Kinzo. The old system for becoming head. Kinzo's sexism. The way EVA goes about this is that she doesn't like being told what to do. She doesn't like Beatrice looking over her. EVA only treated her with respect out of obligation; she didn't think Beatrice really deserved it. She even denies that she's part of Eva because 'Eva' is the 'old her' and she's grown. (She later takes this back.)
But then EVA grows. She's not as likely to, say, drown someone in a sea of jelly. EVA will still kill. She just won't do it in such audacious ways. Even if she still can get quite excited by it. Why?
It comes down to one person: Ange. The twelve years with Ange changes her. EVA admits in the last chapter that she has looked over her. In her own way which is to say she wasn't exactly nice about it.
Both EVA and Eva Ushiromiya become scapegoats. Out of affection for Ange, they act cruelly towards her. Sowing hate. Making sure that Ange believes that they're the culprit. Why?
Because they know it would kill Ange if she found out the truth. Hating a distant aunt, a wicked step-mother, thinking that this wicked fairytale guardian was a murderer would be easier on Ange. It didn't go exactly like planned. They also knew that Ange wasn't likely to accept them with love.
Ange was the last Ushiromiya, the last family member left. Ange inherited both Eva's wealth and EVA's title, becoming ANGE-Beatrice. Even if Ange didn't accept these things with graciousness and thought this was Eva's last cruelty... it showed that both of them had some faith in her. True, Ange didn't like money and gave up on magic.
EVA's selfishness can be brought up again. Even if she did attack Ange later on, the fact that Eva gave Ange her title? Shows some trust. Some growth. EVA when she first appeared wouldn't even consider a successor. It would be an insult to her power and position.
When EVA knows Ange's choices are leading to her self-destruction, she acts pained. Silently watching her, witholding normal scathing remarks. This is a stark contrast to how she reacts with Hideyoshi did a similar thing. She acted shaken and disdainful of his sacrifice. Annoyed.
With Ange, EVA doesn't act annoyed. She keeps quiet. Holds her opinion to herself knowing that it's Ange's choice and not hers.
What does all this mean?
The main things about EVA is that she's cruel. Brutal. She doesn't really give a damn about many people (Ange being the main exception to a degree, though EVA will never admit that until Ange realizes it for herself). She's selfish, quick to betray if someone doesn't go along with what she wants. Childish. She has a great deal of pride, as well, since EVA doesn't easily take advice she doesn't like.
Also, it's important to mention that EVA-Beatrice is extremely smart. Not a genius but she knows quite a deal. She can analyze a situation quickly; getting the hang of magic and the rules of it takes her a short amount of time. This cleverness amazes Beatrice and Ronove, who both know that it took Beatrice much longer to get a hang of it.
Though, even if EVA is smart, her mannerisms are still that of a child, matching her appearance. She tends to use 'younger' sounding words. Such as using 'awesome' to show amazement or 'later' instead of saying goodbye. She also, once, insists Battler calls her 'sister' instead of 'aunt' because that 'makes her feel like an old woman'.
Other: EVA-Beatrice is an incredibly powerful witch, in the right conditions. Normally a witch needs to be afraid of guns, but EVA-Beatrice manages to block a bullet with only about a day's worth of practice being a witch. However, she's not as strong as say Lambadelta or Ange. Her 'catchphrase' is ' why don't you give up and die' and various other forms of it. (Such as "why don't you cry yourself to sleep and die".) I'll keep her powers down, as well as an opt-out post.
First Person (entry type): Hey, so, I was wondering something. I guess someone around here could be helpful and answer it, yeah? Awesome.
Anyway. So, let's talk about fairy tales for a minute. I know, a shocker coming from a witch. (And if you think about calling me a kid again, go ahead. Maybe playing with one of you 'ducks' might be fun.) Oh - that's right, my question. How many of you have stopped believing in them? Fairy tales, I mean. Before you start insulting me, let me finish. Okay?
The thing is, if you grow up you can't believe or use magic anymore. (I'm really making this simple so do pay attention; I'm not explaining it again.) So, if you do believe, you can become a witch. ... Yeah. That was corny. If anyone mentions it, I'm going to find a way to your world. I am bored, after all.
What I'm trying to say is? I'm looking for a kid I can train to my successor. Why? Because Ange-chan isn't exactly the best one. It wasn't even really my decision to choose her!
Or maybe I'm just being 'a wicked witch' and luring kids out so I can kill them. That sounds fun, too. Who knows, right? Haha...! What, don't you get the joke? Too bad! I'm not explaining it.
Third Person: Even if the mansion had been destroyed, Rokkenjima was still home. This was EVA-Beatrice's home; she had been born in Eva's heart here. This is where she had become a witch. The mystery here had kept her alive.
The men and Kyrie's sister can't see her. Not that she'd want to talk to them if they did. Apparently Ange hadn't arrived here yet. It wouldn't be long, though. Rokkenjima was like that: it called everyone home eventually.
She sighed. No one heard it except for herself, of course. This would be the end... Either Ange would die by the hands of these thugs or by EVA's own. It wasn't the best way to end things.
Not at all.
Then again, wasn't it ironic? Hadn't EVA rebeled against her own mentor? Tortured her. Insulted her. Almost killed her. Hadn't she refused help?
Maybe it was the legacy of being called Beatrice. She sighed again. Almost bitterly. She couldn't afford to look anything but cruel when the time came, just in case if she was seen (though that was very doubtful).
When Kasumi's goons begin to move, she follows. She had to respect Ange's decision. If that meant EVA had to kill her? So be it.

EVA-Beatrice | Umineko no Naku Koro ni | Not reserved 2/?

So be it.
