In an attempt to get closer to Finn, Kurt successfully sets their parents up. Unfortunately, Finn isn’t as excited about this development – because his mum starts throwing out some of their stuff, which he thinks is heartless, and because he thinks it means she’s forgetting his dad. However, after serious talks with both his mum and Burt, he begins to come round as he realises that the important thing is that his mum is happy and not lonely anymore. Despite that, he still dislikes the idea of moving in with the Hummels, mostly because he’s uncomfortable about the idea of sharing a room with Kurt. When he gets into an argument with Kurt, he uses a disrespectful term which Burt overhears, and he promptly kicks Finn out of the house. Finn tries to make up for this at the end of the Gaga episode by dressing in a showercurtain-gagaesque outfit and standing up to the other jocks who are bullying Kurt.
At the end of the season, the glee clubbers discover that Jesse has gone back to Vocal Adrenaline. This bombshell threatens to ruin them, but Finn finds Rachel and tells her that as New Directions’ leaders, it is down to them to make sure the club does its best. Right before they perform, he tells Rachel he loves her. Unfortunately, New Directions fail to even place at Regionals, leaving them all thinking that glee club will be disbanded. In an unexpected show of kindness, however, Sue insists that she wants the club to have another year.
S2: With Matt having transferred to another school, Finn and Rachel take it upon themselves to try and recruit new members for glee. The club’s performance on campus isn’t overly successful, but Finn notices one guy who looks like he might be interested. He later overhears this person, Sam Evans, singing in the shower and tries to convince him to join glee.
Finn is temporarily kicked off the football team after their new coach, Shannon Beiste, thinks he is disrespecting her by asking that she consider allowing Artie to try out for the team. Sam takes over as quarterback and for a while nothing more is said about him joining glee. However, by the 4th episode Sam is part of the club, much to Kurt’s excitement. When they are assigned a duets task, Finn doesn’t want Kurt and Sam to sing together – Kurt thinks this is because he is still uncomfortable about Kurt being gay, but Finn insists that it’s only because he doesn’t want Sam to get bullied for singing a duet with another male, as he thinks this will make Sam leave the club. He and Rachel also think that the best way to ensure Sam sticks around is if he wins the duet competition, so they decide to do a poor performance. Sam and Quinn do win, but only just.
Just prior to Sam joining glee, Finn ends up as quarterback again following Sam being involved in an accident that results in him dislocating his shoulder. Finn thinks this is partly due to his prayer to the ‘Grilled Cheesus’ that appeared on a sandwich he made. He feels guilty that Sam got hurt, but is glad to be back in ‘his’ position. Another of his prayers was that he might get to touch Rachel’s boobs, which also happens. He feels guilty for not praying for Kurt’s dad, who is in hospital, and ends up going for a meeting with the school guidance counsellor, Emma. He explains everything to her, but she convinces him that the grilled cheesus probably didn’t have anything to do with his recent bouts of luck. After singing ‘Losing My Religion’, he eats the sandwich.
