Character Notes:
History:

At the age of four, during a housefire, Dean was handed his infant brother and told to run outside as fast as he could. That was the night his mother died. It was also the night his father became a hunter.

He was raised less innocent than most people, knowing that the things that went bump in the night were actually demons, ghosts, and other various supernatural beings. For years, he hunted these things alongside his father; their goal was to take down the thing that had killed his mother. And, over the years, that obsession with revenge developed into hatred for the things that he hunted.

Dean's younger brother Sam left for college when he was old enough, leaving just Dean and his father to hunt for the demon who killed his mother and take down everything else in between. They still hunted together, but sometimes they split up to work separate jobs.

Then, one day, his father went missing. Cue Dean seeking Sam out and asking for his help.

Now teamed up with his younger brother, the two were on a mission to find their father, doing the job together from that point on. During this time, they became like brothers again and formed a very special bond which lead most people to assume the two were romantically involved.

Eventually, they were reunited with their father, who informed them that he was hot on the trail of the thing that had killed their mother. But, not long after that, they were in a car accident which left Dean seriously injured and on his deathbed.

His father, desperate, made a deal with the demon who had killed Sam and Dean's mother. The deal was, in exchange for his own life, Dean would be brought back.

After his father's death, Dean (although insisting he was fine) couldn't bear it---couldn't bear the thought that it was him who was supposed to die. During this time, Dean would put himself in harm's way every chance he got, and it would seem he was constantly hoping to die. Later he revealed that he felt it wasn't natural for him to be alive, saying, "what's dead should stay dead."

Despite this, when Sam died, Dean followed in his father's footsteps, making a deal with a Demon. In return for Sam's life, he would get a year to live. Too close to the end, he admitted he didn't want to die.

After the hell hounds made him their chew toy, Dean arrived in Hell. He spent every day down there being tortured and offered to be taken off the racks, but only if he would take to torturing souls. Eventually, he broke down and accepted the offer.

Then he woke up in a pine box and clawed his way out of the grave. Six months after his death, and he was alive and in perfect condition. All of his scars were gone; the only mark on his body was a hand print burned into his shoulder.

After talking to a family friend, he went and demanded answers from his brother, automatically assuming he had done just what Dean and his father had both done before him and made a deal. Despite his attempts, however, Sam informed Dean that he had not been able to make a deal.

This raised a lot of questions, and Dean went seeking answers. It was revealed that an angel had pulled Dean from Hell. When he asked why, the angel simply stated that God had plans for Dean, and commanded him to do it.

After coming back, Dean claimed to remember nothing from his time downstairs, but later told his brother that he remembered everything. He has reoccurring nightmares and a difficult time getting through each day, which leads to excessive drinking.

Later on, Dean learns that the reason he was brought back from Hell was because he was to be the vessel for Michael, an Archangel, who was supposed to fight against Lucifer in a battle.
