First Person (entry type): I just got my book list and welcome back letter to Hogwarts this afternoon. I was surprised to find a small badge tucked in with an additional letter enclosed with the rest. Would you believe I’ve been chosen to be a Prefect? I can’t wait to tell Sev the good news.

Mum and Dad are happy for me, even though I had to explain what it means to be Prefect. I tried to tell Tuney too, but she only gave me a dirty look before walking off to ring her boyfriend. I wish she would have at least said something….

Still, I can’t wait to get back to school and see who the boy Prefect is for Gryffindor. …If it’s Potter or Black, I’ll have a word with McGonagall, see if she can reassign the position to someone more reasonable or tolerable.

Third Person: Lily stared down at the journal she had just written in and was shocked to find ink in someone else’s hand surface on the page below what she had written. It looked like a reply. But that couldn’t be right… she was certain her mother had picked this up in a Muggle shop, and books weren’t supposed to write back.
Curiosity getting the better of her, she picked up her quill once more and wrote a reply back. Within minutes, more replies appeared. Lily stared at the paper and began flipping through the pages. Near the back was a whole long list of messages based on different topics. There were even moving pictures, complete with sound! She knew pictures could move in the Wizarding World, but she didn’t know they could make noise! Carefully, she prodded one of the pictures with her quill and it let out a blast of sound. Slamming the book shut as her heart pounded, Lily waited a few minutes before reopening the book and turning to a fresh page. Only three words formed her new message. “What is this thing?”
