Lucario 2/??
History:
Lucario’s story begins over 1000 years before the present time of the movie. Here he was the partner of a knight named Sir Aaron and extremely loyal to him. Under his guidance, Lucario learned to sense the force known as Aura – a resonance that is given out by all living things. Honing his skills, Lucario became able to detect living things and differentiate between living things and solid objects, a little like echo-location or night-vision. He did this with his eyes closed and became extremely agile. Using Aura, no foe could hide from Lucario and he could detect incoming attacks even blindfolded or in the dark. He was able to use the power offensively as well using a technique known as Aura Sphere and even developed telepathic capabilities that allowed him to communicate with humans.
At the time the story begins a war is breaking out between two nations of Pokemon, with Cameran Palace – the place that Aaron and Lucario were sworn to protect - caught in the middle. Lucario is on the trail of Sir Aaron who is making his way to the Tree of Beginning, a sacred place home to many extinct and legendary Pokemon, including Mew. The Tree is not actually a Tree but a network of rock and crystal and a living organism. It is said to be able to revive the earth and soothe hearts but requires Mew to do so. As Lucario journeys to find his master, he is intercepted by a group of Houndoom who blind him temporarily but with Aura, Lucario eventually catches up to Aaron. However, his master suddenly turns on him and tells him that he is abandoning the castle and Queen Rin and throws down his staff at Lucario. The Pokemon is trapped inside the crystal atop the staff in much the same way as a Pokeball and remains there until the present day.
In the present, Cameran Palace is holding a ball to celebrate its history and the legend of Sir Aaron. Ash Ketchum earns the place of the Guardian of Aura (as Aaron was known as the True Guardian of Aura, this is considered an honour) after winning a Pokemon battling tournament and dons Aaron’s outfit as well as receiving his staff to hold. After giving the signal later that night to begin the fireworks, Lucario is released from the crystal staff. He mistakes Ash for Aaron as he is still blinded and Ash appears to have the same Aura as Aaron did with a similar outline too, due to his costume, but after opening his eyes again he realises that he has made a mistake.
Confused now, Lucario wanders the Palace which hasn’t changed much from his home 1000 years ago. Even Queen Ilene, the current Queen, resembles Queen Rin of the past and Lucario bows before her by mistake. However Ilene takes pity on him and explains that his memories are now ancient events. Just then, Max, who was also accompanying Ash runs in to explain that he saw Mew in the Palace attic and that it took Pikachu (and Team Rocket’s Meowth) somewhere. To confirm this, a girl named Kidd who had been tracking Mew in order to discover its mysteries joins them too, explaining that she saw Mew transform into a Pidgeot and carry them to the Tree of Beginning. Ash makes the decision to go and rescue Pikachu himself and at Ilene’s request, Lucario agrees to lead them there.
Along the way there the group stop off at a hot spring, but Lucario perches on a rock away from them. He has become distrusting of humans and is upset because of the loss of Sir Aaron. He does reminisce though, still trying to work out why Aaron trapped him in the staff and betrayed him. At night, Ash talks about how Pikachu and himself didn’t get along very well but after surviving an attack from a flock of Spearow, they both learned to respect one another and became best friends. Lucario walks off in a huff at that believing that humans and Pokemon could never be friends, feeling himself that he was just a servant of Sir Aaron and was then betrayed. He gets into an argument with Ash and when the Pokemon retorts that perhaps Pikachu just wanted to get away from a weak trainer, Ash pounces on him angrily and they wrestle with one another.
Lucario 3/??
As they near the Tree of Beginning, Lucario pauses at the spot he remembers Sir Aaron abandoning him. Whilst remembering the scene he accidentally activates a Time Flower – crystal-like flowers that record memories and then play them back using holographic projections when activated by Aura. The group watch as Aaron tells Lucario that he’s abandoning them, throws the staff down and traps him. At that moment one of the armies of Pokemon floods through the valley, and Lucario begins to attack them with Aura Sphere out of confusion. Ash manages to calm him, making him realise that they’re just illusions. Understanding how he feels now, Ash apologises to the Pokemon, and Lucario accepts, making the trainer promise never to abandon Pikachu.
Eventually they make it to the tree but find that it is guarded by the three Regi Pokemon –Regirock, Registeel and Regice. It seems only Pokemon are permitted to enter the tree and any intruding humans are attacked. What’s more, the tree itself seems to consider humans an ‘infection’ as they walk through the tunnels that make up its veins and strange red blobs chase after them to try and consume them and get rid of them, like white blood cells fighting infection. Using teamwork, Ash eventually finds Pikachu though and introduces him to Lucario, who begins to understand their friendship. It is even more apparent when Ash is consumed by one of the red blobs, as his Pokemon cry and mourn his loss.
Mew takes pity on the Pokemon then and feeling sad himself he rises up to touch the crystals within the Tree, performing the healing spell the Tree is capable of. All of those who were consumed by the blobs, including Ash, are deposited safely in the chamber again. However, Mew suddenly becomes ill. Contacting her boss, Kidd explains that the Tree’s immune system has gone into shock and the Tree is dying as it starts to collapse. It is then she realises that the Tree and Mew are connected and if the Tree dies, Mew will also die.
As the group try to find a way to revive the Tree they find themselves at its core. However, Mew is too weak to do anything. It is here that Lucario finds Aaron trapped in crystal. He activates a Time Flower there and watches in awe as a projection of Aaron speaks about Lucario as his friend and not his servant. Aaron hadn’t abandoned anyone but was in fact trying to protect Lucario and prevent him from following him to the Tree of Beginning. This was because in order to defend the land of Rota and stop the war, Aaron had to sacrifice himself and give up his Aura to Mew in order to pacify the Pokemon and heal the land. He didn’t want Lucario to follow the same fate.
Upset by this revelation and finally understanding the friendship between human and Pokemon now, Lucario vows to heal the tree in the same way Aaron did and offers his Aura to Mew, even though it means he will die in the process. Unfortunately his Aura alone isn’t strong enough and doesn’t work. But since Ash has the same Aura as Aaron’s, he dons the Aura-enhancing gloves that were left beside Aaron’s crystal and tries to use his own, despite his lack of training. At the last moment, Lucario pushes Ash out of the way, meaning that only he will be sacrificed to the Tree. Lucario fades away after that with Ash by his side, joining Aaron in the core of the Tree.
The Tree is healed and the rest of the group continue their separate journeys. The portrait of Sir Aaron is altered to include Lucario now as a symbol of their friendship.
Lucario 4/??
Lucario is very serious by nature and despite Aaron’s attempts, he does often take things too seriously. With a little coaxing though, he does learn to relax a little and is capable of showing a smile. Outwardly though he often appears cold and edgy, always on the alert. This is particularly the case when he feels that he has been betrayed. He is fiercely loyal but it seems that once his trust has been broken, Lucario is quick to hold a grudge. He quickly becomes consumed by memories and is desperate to find answers. Aaron is by far the most important person in his life, dead or alive.
Aside from working alongside Sir Aaron, it seems that Lucario prefers his own company, shown sitting apart from the group and often deep in thought by himself. However he is capable of making friends with those who persevere enough and seems willing to try out new things when he can (like eating the chocolate Max offers him, and warming his feet in the hot spring with Aaron).
Being the Pokemon of a knight, Lucario holds a strong sense of justice and would do anything to protect those he is sworn to, including sacrificing himself as shown here. He also warns a Bonsly about stealing, showing that he has certain morals he abides by.
Lucario is a skilled fighter and enjoys training, particularly alongside Aaron who taught him everything he knows about Aura and how to use it, as well as how Time Flowers work. He is extremely fast and agile and his Aura attacks are highly powerful, however he suffers defensively and if hurt is likely to be hit hard.

Sir Aaron... I still don’t understand. He was always so loyal to Queen Rin. How could he turn on the Queen, on me, at the kingdom’s greatest time of need? Have I really been asleep for over one thousand years? The Palace is still so familiar to me, yet different. And... Queen Rin... only her descendant is left now. I am alone.
[A growl.] I can’t believe that my master would leave me trapped for so long, only for me to wake up in this strange future full of things I have never seen before and people I don’t know. And all I have as a reminder of my time is this crystal... A crystal that seems to hold memories, but nothing from my past. No, only a Time Flower could hold something so ancient. It seems that this crystal is fairly new, a gift from the Tree of Beginning.
...
I hear voices. Voices from within the crystal. Sir Aaron? Sir Aaron! Can you hear me?
Third Person:
Things had been hard for Lucario ever since he had been released from his master’s crystal staff. The Palace still looked the same but there were things around it that he found it hard to comprehend. Machines with wheels that humans rode in for speedy transport. No longer did they rely on wooden carts, but resorted to metal instead. There were Pokemon he had never seen before, all travelling alongside humans. Were they all servants too? It seemed not. At least not all of them, as Ash had led him to believe.
Without his master, Lucario felt lost. In the past his duty was to him and to Queen Rin. Now he was alone in a time he was unfamiliar with and his duty was to nobody but himself. But how could he forget Sir Aaron? He had obviously done something wrong, or else his master wouldn’t have abandoned him like that. It was no wonder he had started to distrust humans. To them, Pokemon were there to be abused, only used when needed, and then discarded like waste.
Yet the trainers he had met here were different. Their Pokemon loved them, he didn’t need Aura to sense that. And they were kind... just as kind as Aaron had been to him.
He shook the thought from his mind. I must learn the truth. he thought to himself. No matter what I have to do to get there.

Hm, the weather seems to have worsened over the past few days. Dark clouds have been gathering and it has been raining for a good few hours now. Usually I would shy away from it but... I find it almost refreshing now. I can't forget what Sir Aaron taught me. I must learn to bear these conditions to improve my endurance, as part of my training.
I remember in the past, Sir Aaron would take me to the hardest of climates, to improve my stamina. Only then could I become a true Guardian of Aura. Only then would I have the right to work alongside him and guard the castle.
I... hope he was proud to see me come so far in the end.

Today, I was approached by one of Ash's friends. Max. It was obvious he was trying to gain my trust. But I know humans can't be trusted. I will never forgive what they have done to me. First Aaron and now Ash. It is no wonder that Pikachu has gone missing. No, my trust can't be bought with simple offerings. It was a futile effort.
...however, I did enjoy the food he offered me. He called it 'chocolate'. It was both sweet and warming. It seems to contain some magic that lifts the mood of anyone who consumes it.
Perhaps not everything about humans is bad.
