Personality: Ariadne is both creative and curious in nature. It is obvious through her love of architecture that she lives to build and create whatever she can with her mind. While her common sense tells her to stay away from Cobb and his dangerous subconscious, her curiosity of the potential for creation in dreams is what brings her back to the inception job. She loves the opportunity dreams give her to push the boundaries of her creative abilities and is more than eager to explore the dream state. Her curiosity is one of her biggest assets. Instead of just completing the job as necessary, Ariadne goes above and beyond as she learns everything she can about sharing dreams, and about Cobb who poses the biggest threat to the job.
Being the youngest member of the “dream team” Ariadne is quite naïve and inexperienced in comparison to the other team members. She isn’t as much of an expert on dreams as the rest of the team, but she adapts quickly through instruction. She likes to believe the best in people, though she knows that people aren’t all good. Because of this she trusts the rest of the team enough to share dreams with them, even though she knows so little about them.
She is a quick learner and adapts well to new and strange situations put before her. In only her first two dream sessions she was able to create huge manipulations within them. This trait is what convinces Cobb to have her join the team. She’s also quick on her feet. When it looked like the job was a bust, Ariadne was able to quickly create a plan that ultimately completed the job and saved Cobb.
She is kind, but also firm. While she cares about her fellow team members, she’s also very aware of the risks she takes by sharing dreams with them. She isn’t afraid to speak her feelings or her doubts if she feels at risk. When there are problems with Cobb’s subconscious she immediately confronts him about it. She wants to make sure she and the other team members are safe working with Cobb, but also that Cobb is able to work through whatever problems he is struggling with. While the other team members seem unaware or ignore Cobb’s issues, Ariadne addresses them point blank because she knows they are a problem and won’t just go away. First Person (entry type): [Video] [Ariadne stares at the screen, scanning the material. She places a cup of coffee on the desk next to her and rolls her eyes. She pushes her chair back, looking around the room for something or someone.]
Ha, ha, guys. Real mature. I go out for ten minutes on a coffee run and you mess with my internet browser? Come on out and fix this, now. You know I’ve got another big project to finish soon. I’ve got work to do and less time than I’d like to do it in.
[She waits, but no one replies.]
Seriously, this isn’t funny! [She looks back at the screen.] Why this place anyway? Dramatic ducks? Is this some inside joke I’m missing out on or what?
Third Person: Ariadne couldn’t sleep. Sleep meant dreams and dreams only reminded her of Cobb and his job proposal. Her heart was still racing with excitement as she stared up at the blank, white ceiling of her apartment. She silently wondered what she could do with that simple little ceiling inside of a dream. She could turn it into the breathtaking ceiling of the Sistine Chapel if she so desired. Just by imagining them she could have all of the most brilliant and dazzling structures in the world at her fingertips.
But her heart also raced with fear. She could still feel the pain as the shattered glass jabbed into her chest, killing her in the dream. Even though it had been just a dream, the pain and anxiety still felt so real to her. She half expected to look down at herself and find blood staining her night shirt. The fear of losing herself in the dream was overwhelming, but her creative instincts were getting the better of her. They kept telling her “go!” “create!”. This certainly was a once in a lifetime opportunity, but she couldn’t be so irresponsible…
