After saving the planet once again, and sacrificing himself to spare one man, he woke up with a new face and promptly crash-landed his TARDIS in the back garden of a little girl named Amelia Pond, and was instantly charmed by her precociousness and mastery of her own will. Having thoroughly befriended her, he then went on to accidentally not come back for twelve years (this happens a lot more than you'd think, he didn't exactly read the TARDIS manual before he threw it into a star, and the calibration's all wonky, particularly when it's been recently crash-landed). This strained their relations somewhat, although after helping to save the planet she still agreed to accompany him on his travels. Along the way, they saved a star whale, accidentally ressurected the Daleks, erased the most fearsome creature in the universe from existence, doomed a race of fish-people to extinction, got trapped in their own dreams, averted war between Dinosaur people and humans (not helped by the humans), gave Vincent Van Gogh a moment of happiness, saved the planet from a time machine and almost destroyed the universe (then saved it). As you can see, they've been rather busy. Throughout all their adventures, however, there were two constants: the mysterious River Song, future companion and possible future wife of the Doctor, and some mysterious cracks in time and space, the architect of which remains unknown. While initally confused and annoyed by River, the Doctor has warmed to her, even proposing to her with a Freudian slip. He remains confused and annoyed by the cracks, but since they've disappeared for now this is immaterial.
(Note: I will be taking him from the beginning of his regeneration, but his future might as well be included, given the nature of time)
Biology: Being a Time Lord, and thus having all the usual Time Lord messing with the natural order of things, his biology is somewhat completely illogical and practically impossible. Usually the only noticeable difference is his possessing of two hearts, and minor psychic abilities, such as transferrence of knowledge through headbutt. But at the moment of death, some really strange things begin to happen. Instead of stopping all electrical activity in the brain, along with all respiration and a few other biological processes, before slowly decomposing, the Doctor emits an incredible pulse of light and energy and wakes up, completely fine, but with someone else's face. This is the eleventh recorded face (but the twelfth regeneration, since he once somehow circumvented the changing his appearance part). He can supposedly do this thirteen times, although this has obviously yet to be verified.
While he can have sex with humans, as evidenced by his encounter with Elizabeth I, he was mostly out of his not-inconsiderable mind at the time, and will not be doing it again. For now, anyway.
Apart from that, all that is known is that tea has strange power over him, and he can survive having one heart stopped so long as it gets restarted sharpish.
