Character Notes:
History:
+ Born in Warroad, Minnesota. Or maybe Canada.
+ She was raised in Wisconsin.
+ She matriculated at the University of Wisconsin, where she majored in "Political Science and Government. And sociology and psychology. And biology, for a while, with a minor in french. And drama."
+ She dropped out of college to support her boyfriend, who was in med school. After breaking up with him, she came to work for the Bartlett for America campaign. (Well, not so much work for as sneak into Josh's office and pose as his assistant.)

+ She started out essentially paying to work for Josh, but true to her prediction, she proved valuable and was soon hired on full time. After they won, she kept her position in Josh's office when he became Deputy Chief of Staff

I’ll take Donna from the same point in S1 as Josh.

Personality:
Donna is a bright, dedicated woman. Despite not finishing college, she is very intelligent and dedicated to education. Much to Josh's dismay, she reads almost constantly on a wide variety of subjects (although she tends to remember only the most bizarre or obscure facts.). While she enjoys tormenting Josh, she takes her job very seriously and she's good at it. Among the many secretaries in the West Wing, she is one of the informal leaders, staying on top of everything from morale to information leaks. She's also one of the few people who will stand up to Josh and the rest of the Senior Staff when they're being bullies, and is never shy about speaking her mind. Donna has opinions, and she’s there to share them.

Which isn't to say that Donna is all work and more play. In fact, on the work to play ratio, the scales are heavily weighted toward silliness and frivolity. Despite being smart and dedicated, Donna can be a flake, especially on unimportant issues (little minutiae, like who's waiting to ambush Josh in his office, or whether visiting dignitaries speak English.) She also enjoys taunting her boss and is very, very good at it. She knows exactly how to get under Josh's skin and puts her talent to use at every opportunity. (She likes to look at it as keeping him humble.) She has an irreverent sense of humor that is almost always present, even when it's inappropriate.

While not verbally abusing Mr. Lyman, she enjoys gossiping with the other West Wing secretaries, dating republicans, and long walks on the beach.
