Charlotte A. Cavatica | Charlotte's Web

First Person (entry type):
When a spider is born, the first thing they must do is learn how to handle their silk and spinnerets. This is rather obvious; after all, we need our webs to survive, and it makes sense that we'd need to get a handle on them before anything else. We're a rather intelligent species, we spiders are; we don't need to be taught how to use what comes naturally to us. We simply teach ourselves.

After getting the hang of thread-spinning and web-making, the second thing a spider does is decide where they want to go from there. Often, young spiders are taken by a sense of wanderlust; they want to ride off into the wind or crawl from tree to tree, traveling far and wide and only settling down once they've found something new and nice.

I, on the other hand, was never that sort of spider. I was born here, in the barn, and while it stopped being new a long time ago it was always nice enough for me. I like to observe, and to learn, and there's plenty of time to do that here. I spin my web and I wait for my bugs, and while I wait I watch and I listen and I know. Nobody pays all that much attention to me, but that suits me fine.

Some may say that this life sounds awfully boring. That doesn't matter to me. My life is my life-- not the best, but certainly not the worst. But I do what I am meant to do, and I am content enough.

Third Person:
Three days had gone by, and still Charlotte didn't have any ideas on how to help Wilbur avoid his eventual fate.

She wasn't worried. She knew he was, but he was prone to panic, the poor, silly thing; until she came up with something, the best thing to do would really just be to keep him distracted and thinking about other subjects. Luckily, for a pig, this wasn't hard to do.

Perhaps if she were another sort of animal, Charlotte would have been more impatient, but she was a spider. She was used to waiting, sometimes for hours or days on end, and she was used to working on things that came along slowly. A good plan, like a good web, couldn't be rushed, or it would turn out messy and sloppy and would need to be taken apart and put back together all over again.

All good things took their time, but in the end, they did come. And when an idea on how to save Wilbur's life finally came to her, Charlotte would be ready to receive it.
