My Dear Lord Akeldama,
It seems that a very curious contraption has fallen into my lap today. It seems quite like a typewriter, but instead of a sheet of paper the words I type appear on a window of some sort. It is quite impossible to describe accurately. Mother and the rest of the household have little interest for its mysterious appearance, but I was certain it would pique your interest. I thought perhaps I would test the strange machine by sending you a letter about it. Of course this brings a problem to light. How exactly might I send this letter to you without paper? Am I to send you the entire machine? I imagine that would cost quite a bit to post. I think perhaps it would be easier to send a more traditional letter and then I could invite you over for a visit to inspect this gift I’ve stumbled upon.
Yes, I think that would be the most sensible thing to do.
Third Person:
Alexia was more than a little surprised to find the strange contraption sitting on the writing desk of her bedroom. Sadly, she had not even taken notice of it at first. She had been far too distracted by the excitement that had found her at the ball that night. One could hardly blame her. Being attacked by a vampire and arguing with Lord Maccon would distract anyone from strange machines that appear seemingly out of nowhere.
Of course, when she did finally take notice of the machine it was all that occupied her mind. She took her usual seat in front of the desk and peered in closely at its details. It appeared to be painstakingly crafted of wood and copper. It smelled of oil and varnish. She traced an ungloved hand over the key and looked on in awe as the appeared on the glass screen. Curiously she tapped the screen.
“Now how am I supposed to send a letter like this?”
She continued inspecting the machine and wondered what others would make of it. She was certain her family would take little interest in it. It would be best not to bother informing them of its appearance. Lord Akeldama would be quite a different story, however. She expected that he would be quite interested in hearing about such a marvel. If anyone were to know what its purpose was, Alexia was sure it would be him. Even Professor Lyall was bound to take an interest in the strange machine. For a brief moment she imagined what Lord Maccon would make of it. With a smirk she pictured the Alpha chucking the thing out a window at the first hiccup it presented to him. But then, why bother imaging that. She wanted to know what the machine was, not break it to pieces.
She shook her head and stepped away from the machine. She was far too tired to perform any further examination. Tomorrow would bring a new day of exploration. Alexia was quite looking forward to it.
