Character: Nathan young Fandom: Misfits
Character Notes:
History: - [I will try not to spoiler much but you know the drill]
Nathan Young is lumbered with a community service at his local community centre, for causing trouble in a bowling alley. It all started with him stealing some sweets, then mocking the manager of the bowling alley, and ended with Nathan firing a nail gun into the hand of the man. In the community center, Nathan meets the rest of the misfits (Kelly, Curtis, Alisha, Simon and Gary) and the parole officer (Tony).
On their first day, the juvenile delinquents and the parole officer get caught by a strange storm that makes huge clumps of ice fall from the sky. A bolt of lightning electrifies them and gives the group different superpowers. Kelly can read people’s minds, Curtis can turn back in time, Alisha makes people who touch her skin go into a sexual frenzy towards her , and Simon can make himself invisible. Nathan is frustrated because he, apparently, didn’t gain any sort of power. The parole officer gets superhuman strength and goes berserk, killing Gary and later trying to kill all the rest. He attacks the group and it’s finally murdered by Kelly. Nathan and the others bury the corpses under concrete.
Nathan kept sabotaging his mother’s romances to the point where she kicked him out of the house in the hopes of making an actual relationship work. The dependency Nathan shows on his mother is mostly because of his problems with his father, who was never there for him when he needed him. He keeps being extremely hostile towards his mother’s boyfriend and tries to convince her that he’s a pervert.
After having a brief relationship with Ruth, a young woman that later on Nathan discovers was affected by the storm as well (she was 82 years old, but looked in her 20’s again), he realises that forcing his mother to live alone isn’t making either of them happy, especially her. Nathan still wants to protect his mom and keep her all for him, but he finally understands why she kicked him out. They make amends and Nathan decides to keep sleeping in the community service building to give her space.
The new parole office of the group is Sally, a woman who was the fiancée of the deceased probation worker. While the group is ignorant of that fact, Sally suspects that all of them had something to do with Tony’s disappearance and starts to investigate.
Rachel, a girl that got also affected by the storm and gained the power of suggestion, is brainwashing the youth of the town. She runs a cult-like organisation called 'Virtue' that changes people’s personalities to make them ‘better people. As they investigate, Alisha, Curtis and Kelly get brainwashed too. Nathan tries to convince Kelly that she was better before and he confesses that he liked her exactly for her looks and harsh character. When nothing works, he tries to convince Rachel to change them back by threatening her life with a fake gun and dragging her to the roof of the building.
Sally realizes that he’s armed with a water pistol, not a real one, and interrupts Nathan’s speech about freedom and individuality. In the subsequent scuffle, both fall down the roof and Nathan ends up impaled on the iron fence below. Sally’s death, however, lifts her influence over everyone and they return to their real personalities. Nathan is buried and at the end of the episode he wakes up inside his coffin, wounds healed and unable to get out. He has a power: Immortality.
Note: I would like to play Nathan from this point, at the beginning of the second season. He’s rescued from the coffin after the rest of the misfits visit his grave and Kelly hears his thoughts.
Personality:
In short, Nathan is the epitome of the Jerkass Woobie trope. He is disrespectful, immature, hypocritical, selfish, and he calls people names; he mocks everyone mercilessly and annoys the hell out of people. Most of the time, the rest of the chars feel the urge to hit him, and more often than not they do exactly that. Kelly is the one who calls him out when he’s being mean to Simon or acting extremely annoying in general.
Nathan wants to be the center of attention and probably has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Everything is a game to him; he’s rarely serious and cares little about what others think of him. And that’s why, maybe because of some sort of karmic payback, he’s often put in troublesome situations. It’s in those sort of situations where it gets hard to hate a character like Nathan, because they make it obvious how messed up his life really is, and why he acts the way he does. It’s also in those situations where his heroic side is more noticeable.
The few moments when he shows more serious behaviour are often triggered by the mention or the presence of his father. Nathan might be a jerk, but at the same time, he can be really caring and protective (like he is with his mother and brother, and with some of the girls he meets). He's got a hidden softer side, and he confessed to Kelly that, while he likes her, he is not very good when it comes to feelings. As the episodes progress, he starts to show more concern for his companions, acting more vulnerable and showing remorse for things that he's done in the past. Other:
- His power is immortality, but when he dies it takes him some time to get back to life. That's why the first time it happened, he woke up trapped in a coffin. However, he can't heal himself; he can only do it when he's completely dead.
-As a result of his powers, he can see phantoms and talk to them as if they were still alive.
-Age is between 18-22, has curly hair, big green puppy dog eyes (http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_le9r3qqATT1qben77o1_500.gif); he's sort of skinny and he smokes.
[Someone is singing ‘Smack my b*tch up’ by Prodigy at the top of his lungs. The voice, however, sounds strange, as if the person singing is trapped in a small place. The voice stops singing suddenly.]
What the heck!? [There’s silence for less than three seconds before a series of swears can be heard for about ten minutes. Then there’s the sound of a fist connecting with wood.]
Oh yeah, immortality is so great. Too bad I had to discover my power once they buried me alive! And now the fucking iPod died. What I am supposed to do?
[There are some incoherent murmurs, but most of it is insults again.] I knew it, I knew I had to have one too. Why would the damn storm give them those powers and not me? They really expected that this super sexy man who’s Nathan Young to be rotting six feet under? Such a waste, the ladies must be crying and broken-hearted. What would Kelly…
[He goes silent, remembering the girl.] I need to get out. [There’s silence again, and a frustrated sigh.] Ugh, I really need to shit too.
Third Person: Dying hurt like a bitch. No, scratch that. Lying there stabbed by a fence hurt like a bitch. Fuck those mindless acts of heroism, this wasn’t a pleasant experience. And he never even got to see if his plan worked and everyone got back to normal in the end. Oh well..he couldn’t do much while he laid six feet below the cold ground, could he? No.
So he waited, listening to his iPod until the damn thing died, then decided that he couldn’t pull a ‘Kill Bill’ (he tried, but stopped after he nearly broke his hand), and waited more while being grateful that he wasn’t a zombie. He started to smell like one, though. The coffin was just too fucking small but at least it was comfy. Why the fuck did they make coffins so comfy, he asked himself. It’s not like the poor fella that ended in one of them could enjoy it. He was the exception, duh.
Nathan scratched his chest; just a few hours ago there was a hole there that was now completely healed. Hours? He guessed hours, but he had no idea how long he had been trapped down there. He had no phone or way to contact others and his brain quickly arrived at a conclusion. He was screwed. Fucked over.
Nothing new in his life, sadly. Resigned, he waited some more.
Actually....I realized that I already have way too many chars and the other app I posted was accepted. So I think I should focus on the chars I have now. While I love this char and I might like to app him one day in the future, he is really hard to play and requires my full attention. I also want to get a better grasp of his voice before I play him in a proper game. It will be too much of a problem if I decide to not really app him?
Ugh, sorry for the inconvenience. I've never did this before :/ Impulsive apps are baaad.
