At the Academy, Pavel focused his attention on stellar cartography, and transporter theory. He was briefly involved with Irina Galliulin, however she dropped from the Academy not long after their relationship began. He ceased searching for romantic prospects past that, and focused on his studies, which most people seemed content enough to let him do. He was younger than all the other cadets, which automatically instilled a bit of hostility towards him -- but he was content to ignore any doubts others had concerning his abilities.
He is a trained navigator, serving about the USS Enterprise. Personality: Pavel is a bright, eager young man, despite his childhood. He's incredibly optimistic, cheerful, and very friendly -- if not naive; he's always happy to meet new people and learn new things. He's mature in some aspects, though that's mostly due to his intelligence; he's still a teenager at heart, and it's often it'll be displayed outside of his work setting. He tries very hard to prevent people from thinking he's anything less than an adult, but his exuberance and overzealous attitude, combined with a dislike of being anything less than correct, often makes him seem much younger than seventeen.
His English isn't perfect, and he has a rather strong Russian accent, but he does his best to make sure he's understood. He's still working on his language skills, and despite his occasionally broken English and the Russian words and phrases thrown in here and there, he's still incredibly high-spirited and loquacious.
Pavel excels in math, and while attending the Academy, he was top of his class in stellar cartography and transporter theory. His strongest field includes advanced theoretical physics, though he rather loves physics in general -- along with all other math-associated subjects. Pavel is also a runner, and he was the youngest cadet to win the Academy Marathon. That, along with his tendency to count each and every possible number, or calculate whatever equation catches his fancy, consists of the majority of his hobbies. Other: Pavel is a mathematical prodigy, and he's quick to adapt to new situations.
He frequently misses Russia, the snow and cold -- and sometimes, his father.
He believes that literally everything was invented in Russia; the Russians very nearly invented the universe, just so you know.

First Person: Oh, this is not good. Not good on many, many levels.
That chart was due to the stellar cartography department hours ago, and now I cannot find it. The file was saved, and that is gone, and the physical chart itself that I had set is missing as well.
So very not good.
I turn my quarters inside-out, looking for the PADD that has the coordinates and calculations attached, but boze moi -- nothing! It must not be my day, and now I know I'll have to redo it.
...and while I do not necessarily mind this, it is still a pain, and I'd promised Hikaru I would meet him for food in the mess hall. But now it seems I will have to see him another time, and spend the rest of tonight on that chart.
I like my work, yes, but I also like spending time with my best friend; it is disappointment not to.
Third Person: It was...nice to be home for leave. Father had let him come, to spend some of his time off back in their big house, in his room stacked high with books and his first, favorite telescope in the window. As he set his bag on the floor of his room -- now covered in dust -- he runs his fingertips over the telescope; it was a gift from his mother for his sixth birthday. He has to bend now to look through it, but outside the window, all he can see are heavy gray clouds.
The snow fell, covering everything (as well as obscuring his view), but that was the way he liked it. It was nice to come home to the quiet of the snow, to hear his boots crunch as he walked and feel his cheeks burn when the wind whipped against his skin just a little too hard.
The one thing about space he hated most, perhaps, was the lack of snow. (Because snow and cold was invented in Russia, and Pavel misses it.)
Pulling away from the window, Pavel briefly let himself look over his old books, tracing the spines of a couple before he walked back out of his room. His father was in his study -- as he'd been since Pavel's arrival; he hadn't thought to go bring him home. He'd just sent a car.
Pavel smoothed a frown away from his features as he turned his attention from the door of his father's study, and wandered down the stairs. He was still bundled up, all except for his boots, and once those were back on his feet, he opened the front door to brave the frigid Russian air. The wind stung, but the snow was falling at a slow enough rate that he could still see, and while he didn't bring a book with him, or an umbrella, he trudged through the heavy snow, to a thick old tree.
When he stood properly beside it, he gave the trunk a pat, and leaned in to rest his forehead against it. He'd spend many afternoons beneath this tree, on the many days his father barely paid him any mind, and he'd fueled his imagination with physics and histories -- just to learn more of all the places he could go with what he knew, and how to make all of it possible.
"Spasiba," he mumbled to the sleeping tree, brushing a bit of the clinging frost from its trunk. "Spasiba, moĭ drug..."
Thank you, my friend.
"Velcome home, to me," he said, in Standard, with a soft laugh, a grin spreading across his lips as his mood lightened. "I get to spend vith books, and you," he told the tree. It would never talk back -- it was just a tree, after all -- but sometimes, when everything was blanketed in silence, it was good to hear a voice of any kind -- even if it was just his own.
