► Pisses off Beckett and gets told to transport slaves anyway. Jack sets all the slaves free and gets thrown in jail for it. He gets branded with a capital 'P' for pirate on his arm. Beckett has the Wicked Wench fired upon and has it set on fire. Jack breaks free to try and save it but it's too late and it sinks with Jack. Jack strikes a deal with Davy Jones, who showed up when Jack was on the edge of death. He promised to give up position as captain of the Wicked Wench in thirteen years and serve for a century aboard the Flying Dutchman. The ship is resurrected and Jack renames it the Black Pearl and goes on to have awesome pirate adventures that may or may not be exaggerations. Nobody has a clue for sure and he starts a bunch of legends about himself. ► He may or may not have become a chief of a tribe, sacked a port without firing a single shot, impersonated a Naval officer and a clergyman, and dated Blackbeard's daughter. He became Lord of the Caribbean when Teague got promoted to Keeper of the Code (though Teague's position was Lord of Madagascar so I don't know how that works but whatever). He won a poker match against Jolly Roger, who died at the end of it and became leader of an undead legion. Yeah. He did. ► He recruits his crew in Tortuga, names Barbossa first mate, and went on adventures with them. Then a Shadow Lord created shadow gold and Tia Dalma sent Jack to get it so he traveled all around the world, had awesome battles, and then defeated the Shadow Lord. Yay. This is cursed Cortés gold, naturally. ► The crew embarks to get some gold. A non-unanimous mutiny happens led by Barbossa (the reason for which is speculated that Jack was too non-violent ) and they leave Jack on a desert island with a pistol with a single shot. Luckily rumrunners were using the island so Jack hung around for three days getting drunk then got off the island with them. The crew itself when on to collect the gold, later realizing they were cursed horribly with it. Bootstrap Bill, who disagreed about Jack, sent a piece of the gold to his son before being strapped to a cannon and sent overboard. ► Jack discovered what became of his crew. Eight years go by with Jack continuing his life of piracy and seeking them out. He stole the Jolly Mon from Anamaria and it sinks on his arrival to Port Royal. ► The first film. ► A year goes by ► The second & third film. ► New Movie comes out in May. YEEES.
Personality: -- 'A crazy drunk' could be the first things to pop into someone's head when they meet him. He is extremely unusual in many ways. He tends to have a wild almost-drunken stagger and constantly has flaily arm and odd hand gestures that make him seem completely off balance. He also mumbles and slurs his words. It might be because he's hit his head a lot, had a heat stroke, is malnourished, or just... drunk 90% of the time (which it's very likely he is)-- or all of the above. Who knows.
Despite all that and looking like a drunken madman, he's highly intelligent and quick on his feet. He can easily get himself out of situations with only his words and is shown to be able to outwit and outsmart enemies. He often purposely confuses people to the point where they can't argue with him and end up agreeing to something they'd be against. He'd rather talk a situation out than fight but when he has to he's a tough opponent being both a reasonable swordfighter and an excellent shot.
Being a pirate, Jack has absolutely no problem doing things and tricking people to serve his own purposes. He'll lie, cheat, and steal. Most of his wild legends may have been made up by himself to boost his own reputation. An example of this is when Gibbs tells William an incorrect story about how Jack escaped the island by strapping together sea turtles. Jack doesn't correct him and instead adds to it by adding that he strapped the turtles together using rope made of hair from his own back.
Going against that pirate nature is his unusually kind nature. He may be self-serving but he's a decent man with great respect to the Pirates Code. He thinks pirates can be "good men" and has been shown to risk himself to save others. He has a benevolent nature which can be noted by his refusal to transport slaves, showing no disrespect towards women, and the many times he's saved members of his crew. When his criminal record is read at the end of the first film, while long and including arson and kidnapping, a majority of the crimes are completely harmless and murder and rape are not mentioned. Jack is a self-described man of his word and often surprises people with his honesty.
On another note he claims to have a very good understanding of the opposite sex. He's not one to commit to a relationship and views marriage as gamble to see "who would fall out of love first." Jack can sweep ladies off their feet though women seem to develop a sour memory of him, upsetting them enough to slap him or anyone mentioning him. He's acted surprised about this but he admits that he 'may have deserved' at least one slap.
Other: ► Jack puts a number of possessions at high value. His 'effects.' These include his faded-black tricorne hat, a flintlock pistol with a single shot, a sword, and his compass. He has them on his person at all times and becomes visibly agitated whenever they're taken or touched. He puts the hat at perhaps the highest value as he specifically mention the hat when telling someone to get his things. ► His compass doesn't point north. It instead points to what the holder wants most. ► That ring Captain Teague gives him in the book is never mentioned again so... I'm just going to say he probably doesn't have it anymore or Teague was bullshitting when he said it made people do things. ► He'll be taken from the start of the first film. :3 Additional Links ► Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Sparrow) ► CLIPS: Jar of Dirt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97GqrOYGbX8) & Why is the rum gone? A'right duckies let us say hypothetically that there is a woman on board my ship right now 'n hypothetically she has been hypothetically betrothed to a hypothetical man that is also hypothetically on my ship.
He is also hypothetically a eunuch.
I am going to hypothetically try to get this hypothetical woman into my hypothetical cabin for the night. Would the large argument and drama that would ensue the following morning from the hypothetical couple distract the hypothetical first mate claiming to be captain long enough for me to throw him overboard my hypothetical ship and into the shark invested hypothetical waters?
...hypothetically of course.
Third Person:
“JACK SPARROW! BRING BACK MY SHIP!” screamed Anamaria at her own ship from the end of a deck. “Captain!” corrected Jack, who was on said ship, “It’s Captain Jack Sparrow! And ‘m only borrowing it! I’ll bring it back later!” He paused for a short moment, squinting his eyes and pouting slightly while considering where he was taking this ship. Extremely difficult to navigate rock filled waters where another ship was waiting with freshly loaded canons because of that debt he conveniently forgot to pay and a grudge the captain had against Jack because he slept with his daughter—which isn’t a reasonable grudge at all. She came on to him. The goal was to sneak by on a ship that wouldn’t be recognized as one Jack would be on. These things never always work out in the ships’ favors though.
“…Maybe!” He added quickly. There. Now she can’t be mad if it isn’t in one piece. Anamaria started screaming at him again while stomping her foot on the deck. The ship was getting further and further away from where Anamaria stood, which was a good sign because Jack was quite sure she would shoot him had he been closer after hearing that. He couldn’t exactly make out her screaming exactly but he managed to catch bits of it which it weren’t at all pleasant and involved him being turned inside out.
It was surprising he could even hear that she’s screaming at all at that distance. “Such a strong voice,” he remarked to himself as he turned to pay attention at the sea in front of him. It looked like a storm was approaching. Poor ship.
