-Grace was one of two apprentices to Doctor Mao Nome, the other being Ranshe Mei--the mother of Brera and Ranka. They served on the research Macross Global ship. Their topic of research was the Vajra, an alien insect species.
-Grace writes a thesis on combining the hive-mind of the Vajra with cybernetic implants. In theory someone could unite all the galaxy with a communication system using the "fold quartz" that the Vajra produce. This would sacrifice the Vajra as a species but it wouldn't matter.
-Ranshe doesn't like said theory. Even though she was dying from an infection caused by the Vajra, Ranshe didn't approve of just using them in such a matter. Grace, naturally, hated that decision and she wouldn't just accept this dismissal of her work.
-Then the attack on Macross Global by the Vajra happened. Out of the three, only Grace survived; albeit the attack had left her face scarred (though, due to cybernetic enhances later received the wounds are no longer visible.)
-Brera, Ranshe's son, was found after the attack and 're-built' with cybernetic implants. Grace, though, had plans and used this to brainwash him; giving him amnesia.
-At some point, Doctor Mao's grandchild, Sheryl, became an orphan due to the planning of Grace. She ran around the streets of Macross Galaxy for a while. Until Grace found her.
-Grace brought Sheryl to a hospital where she was injected with the same type of disease that Ranshe had. So started the "Fairy-9" project, one step to gaining control of the Vajra queen, the leader of the alien Vajra.
-For ten years, Grace brought up Sheryl, becoming her manager when Sheryl became an idol. While she did have some feelings for her (after all, being her caretaker for so long), Grace knew that was dangerous and simply used her cybernetic implants to "erase" these feelings.
-At some point, Grace implants (no pun intended) her theory into practice on Macross Galaxy. Effectively using the mandatory cybernetics to turn an entire into a hive-mind as her as the queen.
-Grace used Sheryl's status to get to Macross Frontier, to start off her plans. Staying in the background for most of the series, planning with Leon, the president's assistant, Grace watched and waited.
-Then Ranka came on the scene. Grace was surprised but adjusted her plans, she used Ranka (and abandoning Sheryl) to eventually find the Vajra home world.
-Grace uses both Brera and Ranka to distract everyone else before 'connecting' to the Vajra queen, becoming one with one of the most powerful creatures in the galaxy.
-Then a big battle happened and she got shot by Alto Saotome, effectively ending her plans.
Personality: At first glance, Grace doesn't seem like much of a threat. She's calm, charming, and always has the ghost of a smile near her lips. Always calm (except when her charge acts outrageously) and straight to the point, Grace lets Sheryl take point and stays in the background. While she does give off the aura that she knows more than she's letting on, Grace doesn't really seem like the person who would try to take over the galaxy.
That is, until you start delving into her past. Grace's pride is the first thing that comes to mind, even though it would have been wise to change her name after the attack on Global, she did not. She changed occupation, kept a low profile, yes, but the other characters eventually picked up on that she was the same person from Macross Global. That pride eventually ratted her out in the end.
Would it be too much to call Grace a sociopath? Perhaps, but she does seem to have the lack of empathy down. She doesn't care that her theories could wipe out an entire species and free will. She doesn't care that she spent ten years raising Sheryl and then throwing her away like a rag doll. Making an entire fleet a hive mind? Already done that.
But why, why would she do this? For revenge. She wanted to show up Doctor Mao and Ranshe. She even mentions them by name during the series, trying to prove her point that she became greater than them. By this token, it's pretty safe to assume that Grace is a person who holds a grudge and will get revenge on you, even if it takes generations.
First Person (entry type): The discovery of multiple universes has me quite intrigued, do they have the same physiology? The same basic chemical make-up? If they do, could the plans be extended to other universes? Now, while I wouldn't be surprised if it was, there are bound to be variations. How can I be certain that our plans could work if the biology in other universes works in the same manner as ours? Ah...the possibilities, how exciting.
Brera...he could be useful in this place. How easy it would be to use him to infiltrate these other worlds for me! Hah, I can see it now. I shouldn't get ahead of myself but the very thought that I can show up Doctor Mao and Ranshe even more...that's so delicious.
How they would turn if they could see what I've become, what I'll do. After all, to borrow Sheryl's turn of phrase, I'm Grace O'Connor.
Third Person:
Who would lose their own wallet? Grace had flipped through it with ease, nothing really stood out. Most likely it was just some unlucky idiot who had a nine to four job that couldn't think his way out of a paper bag. Did he (or she, Grace mentally added) really need it?
No. Yet, Grace didn't need it either, she already had enough money and her plans were going along just fine. A wallet couldn't hurt or help. The person who it belonged to obviously didn't need it anymore, being a fool--even children could hold onto things, given enough motivation.
Grace turned the wallet (leather, mediocre craftsmanship) over in her hands. Sheryl would become angry soon if she didn't make an appearance soon. The very thought of her charge becoming angry with her again brought a faint smile to her lips. What a child Sheryl could be at times. Ah well.
She took one more look at the wallet before leaning over and placing it on the ground again. This time, the wallet was close to a drain. As Grace walked by it, it fell into the drain. It served the owner right.
