Season 5:
Quinn’s suspicions of Dexter took on a whole new level. When Dexter placed the 911 call and the first response team showed up, Dexter told them that he was responsible for Rita’s murder. Combine that information with Dexter always sneaking off, the neighbor being more visibly upset about Rita’s death than Dexter, and husbands being responsible for 90% of the cases where a wife mysteriously dies (or so the show says), and you have one very suspicious detective. At first, he really went out of his way to get information. He tracked down a protected witness in the Trinity case to see if a suspect in the Trinity case known as Kyle Butler was really Dexter. Before he could get an answer, he was busted by protective services and LaGuerta suspended him for investigating a case that she specifically told everyone was being covered by the FBI and not the police. He was not willing to let go of his theory and hired Stan Liddy, an ex cop with a shady reputation that Quinn knew from his narcotic days.

Just as Liddy discovered some very incriminating evidence against Dexter, Quinn hit the brakes. Deb and he had begun a relationship that was starting to become pretty serious. Liddy no longer cared if Quinn wanted to go along with everything or not; Dexter’s activities might be just what he needed to get his career back on track. After the homicide unit botched up a case and the higher ups were putting pressure on LaGuerta to clean up the media fiasco the botch-up ignited, Deb found out why Quinn was suspended. Needless to say, it didn’t go over too well and it was then that Quinn realized just how much Deb meant to him. Things were rocky between the two of them for a while, but Quinn refused to give up on them and even told Debra on more than one occasion that he loved her.

The two started to reconcile but things became complicated fast when Liddy turned up dead in his van. Around the time that Liddy died, Quinn had been by his van and some of the blood ended up on his shoes. When LaGuerta discovered the blood on his shoe as well as the phone calls Quinn made to Liddy before he died, she asked him what was going on and Quinn told her he wanted his lawyer. Everyone asked him questions but he refused to answer. Even Deb tried to get answers out of Quinn but he didn’t give her any. He didn’t want to tell her about hiring Liddy and the information Liddy found on Dexter. He ended up getting locked up while everything was being figured out and Deb came to visit him again. This time she told him that she was not going anywhere and that they’d work things out together.

Dexter was the one who was running the blood test on Quinn’s shoes. Dexter knew how important Quinn was to Deb, as well as the truth. He tampered with the blood on Quinn’s shoes and as a result, Quinn was cleared of all charges and suspicions. Within a couple of days there was a birthday party for Dexter’s young son, Harrinson, and Quinn showed up as Deb’s date. He thanked Dexter and told him he owed him one, since he figured out that Dexter had to have tampered with the blood. Quinn was last seen smiling and talking with Deb.
