As Arkham flailed away dying, Vergil and Dante were finally relaxed and stood in a comfortable silence. However, this moment's piece and appreciation wasn't to last as something caught Vergil's eye. He saw the Force Edge and the amulets fall through the opening in the floor and he clumsily ran after them like he'd forgotten all about them and dived straight in -- Dante followed. Vergil caught his amulet and Dante caught his own on the way down. Force Edge was still falling. It landed in the outskirts of the demonic realm on a waterfall. Dante and Vergil landed at the same time, but on different ends. Dante made a grab for Force Edge, as well, but Vergil was faster and caught it and clung to it tightly. He then, with a smile on his face, calmly asked Dante to give him his half of the amulet. It was like the final fight they had fighting as one was proof enough that Vergil had the best of intentions. However, Dante didn't want to hear it. Telling him that he's got his own amulet and doesn't know what Vergil's gonna do with all of that power... "No matter how hard you try, you're never gonna be like father." Vergil took great offence to this and angrily locked blades with Dante. In the struggle, Dante managed to remind Vergil that they are the sons of Sparda, and within each of them, flows his blood, but most importantly, his soul, and right now, Dante's soul is telling him to stop Vergil. Vergil tells them their souls are at odds... he needs more power.

Knowing that his brother had become dangerous, he had to stop him. And as his brother, was the one to do it. It was Vergil's lust for power that turned Dante against him. After an epic battle, Dante won the fight. Vergil was badly injured and Dante demanded that Vergil finishes the fight as he expected better than that. Vergil tries to get Dante to leave already, as the portal to the human realm is closing. But Dante wanted to finish it... even if it means killing Vergil. Dante and Vergil changred each other. Weapons raised. Dante was the quickest and managed to slash at Vergil's stomach. Vergil was in agony and he'd been defeated. He let go of Force Edge and the amulet's chain had been shattered by the blow. Vergil staggered towards his mother's amulet leaving Force Edge behind him -- as he picked the amulet up, he clung to it as he staggered backwards towards the edge of the cliff. Dante knew what Vergil was about to do and attempted to put a stop to it, but Vergil raises his sword to Dante's neck and explains that he should stay in the demon realm... it was their father's home. Vergil launced himself from the cliff backwards and Dante desperately reached out with his hand for his brother, but Vergil refused it and fell into Hell; devoured by darkness. Vergil threw himself into hell, saving them from this "evil" he was made to believe he was. Dante slowly left the waterful, grabbing Force Edge; something a loved one had desperately tried to acquire. He has truly lost everything.

Back in the human realm, he joined Lady. She saw that he had been crying and questioned him about it. Dante blamed it on the rain, but it had already stopped. Running out of excuses for tears, he told her Devils Never Cry -- she pretends to believe him. She asks if he believes if even a Devil May Cry if he loses a loved one. Dante coolly replies maybe. They clear out the rest of the demons.

Lady tells us that after this ordeal, Dante finally decided a name for his shop. Devil May Cry. A memorial to his brother. He even has the glove his brother cut on his desk along with his mother's photograph and Force Edge. As a reminder of what he'd been through with his brother, his only surviving family memember he had to put a stop to. The family member, that again, the demons had ripped away from him.

Vergil, in the depths of hell, regained consciousness, and watching over him was the Prince Of Darkness, Mundus. Vergil had hardly pulled himself together, but still changed towards Mundus who his father had defeated all those centuries ago. He believed that if his father did it, he should be able to do it, too.

However, he wasn't able to defeat the demon king, and was brainwashed to serve his new master.
