Character: Aradia Megido

Character Notes:
History: Aradia is a troll on the world of Alternia. She lives in a hive in an isolated part of the world where there are lots of ruins and ancient stuff all over. She digs for ancient ruins in her backyard, all around her lawnring and doesn't seem to have any other hives nearby.

In the time before the events in Homestuck really start (though it's hard to say when the story officially starts considering everything happens in all sorts of timeframes and the events on the troll world are technically millions of years before the events on Earth), she's a fairly normal low-caste red-blooded troll girl with an interest in archaeology and a fairly dangerous hobby playing a roleplaying game called FLARP in which people have the potential to be horribly maimed and/or killed. She also hears the voices of the dead, which tell her about the future.

Vriska, who is a really big bitch, runs a FLARP session for Aradia and her friends, and psychically controls Tavros into jumping off a cliff, thereby paralyzing him. When Aradia finds out about this, she sends the spirits of the dead to harry and torment Vriska in revenge. Vriska has her own vengeance against Aradia, by sending Sollux, Aradia's possible boyfriend to Aradia's house and mind-controlling him into eating mind honey, which causes his psychic powers to go out of control and destroy Aradia's home, thus killing Aradia and her guardian lusus.

Yeah, I said killing. But the story doesn't end there.

Aradia drifts as a ghost with incredibly enhanced psychic powers and a big chip on her shoulder for a while. No one but possibly Vriska realizes that Aradia is dead. They only think that she's gotten pretty boring and lost interest in most things that she used to love.

When the 12 trolls begin playing the sGrub game (a game which Aradia discovered during her life in the ruins and gave to Sollux to figure out since he's a hacker type) Aradia enters the game as part of the blue team, with Nepeta as her server player and acting as the server player for Equius, a position she knew she had to take. Because of the whispers of the dead, she basically knows what to do and quickly prototypes her sprite with a big stone frog head, then enters the medium. Her world is the Land of Quartz and Melody and she is given the title of the Maid of Time. At that point, she prototypes herself, becoming a sprite - since she's dead, she can do that.

Equius travels to Aradia's world, with a present he carefully prepared for her - a robotic body for her to inhabit. Aradiasprite quickly merges with the robotic body, and then discovers that not only had Equius given the robot body blue blood (which is one of the highest castes), but he had programmed the body to give her feelings of desire and love towards him, since he's kindof been obsessing over her from afar and is basically a big stuck up blue-blooded asshole. She rips the heart with its programming from her own chest with her bare hands, but that doesn't stop the feelings, and she makes out with him.

Jerk.

From a headcanon perspective, I think he's likely her kismesis, which is like hatesex on the troll relationship quadrant thingy. Particularly since I'm pretty sure Sollux filled the matesprit quadrant, and also she kinda obviously hates Equius. It's pretty clear that he wanted the matesprit status, but maybe then he shouldn't have helped kill her and then tried to manipulate her artificially into loving him. Just saying.

Anyway, using her gift of foresight and her powers as the Maid of Time, Aradia causes thousands of versions of herself from splintered-off timelines to travel through time to the point at which the twelve trolls were fighting the final boss. With the help of the Aradia army, they were successful at defeating their boss, but just as Karkat was about to open the door and receive their reward, a rift opened from the newly-created human universe, and the prize was snatched from their grasp. Aradia managed to teleport the twelve troll kids to an asteroid, sacrificing the rest of the army (but they were fated to die anyway) and the troll kids proceeded to troll the human kids and generally just hang out trying to figure out what to do next.

Aradia ends up trolling Rose a bit, and she and Rose share a bit of a connection, but mostly Aradia spends her conversations with Rose trying to dissuade her from doing whatever crazy stuff she's doing, even as she admits that by pretty much taking any action to try to intervene, she's probably ensuring that the disaster she's trying to prevent will occur.

And I think she blows up soon, but I don't know why. (Edited: Yeah, she blew up, and I still don't know why, but she was definitely adorable with Sollux first.) And of course Homestuck isn't done so there's more I probably don't know. It doesn't really matter, because I'm planning on starting Aradia way back in the dimness of time, before the fateful FLARP game that ended her life.

Personality: Aradia's trolltag (her username for Trollian, the chat client the trolls use) is apocalypseArisen and there is a pr0n0unced h0ll0wness t0 her w0rds. She doesn't use capitals or punctuation when typing, and likes to use the 0_0 emoticon to show when she has nothing really to say.

Before her death, Aradia seems quite normal by human standards and even cheerful. She's not as manic as, say, Terezi, and shows no signs of psychopathy that many of the other trolls show. She is angered by Tavros' accident, and takes matters into her own hands, hoping that if Vriska is confronted by her victims, she'll realize that there are consequences for her actions. She clearly has affection for Sollux, and rushes to the window when told that he's outside, glad to see him.

After Aradia's death, she is listless and apathetic. Nothing much seems to matter to her, though she is also consumed by frustration, which causes her to lash out and cause damage to things around her, just for something to do. Her telekinetic abilities and psychic abilities are multiplied by many times by her death, and I think her apathy is caused mostly by the fact that she knows of the inevitable destruction of their world and that there's nothing she can do to stop it. Being dead is also probably a bitch.

Once she prototypes herself she begins to ribbit sometimes, and is unable to control that. She starts to get some of her personality and feelings back.

Joining with her robot body gives her even more personality, pretty much back to the old Aradia, but she becomes very logical and mathematical at times, something Karkat criticizes her for. She begins to refer to herself in computer terms, talking about rerouting circuitry when threatening to blow herself up in order to stop Rose from continuing along the path she's on.

Other: Aradia's fetch modus is the "ouija" modus, where the spirits will choose what items she can retrieve from her captchalogue (which is basically like her inventory. This comic is very meta). It's a pretty good one, since she is capable of influencing the spirits, though she usually allows them to direct things.

Before her death, she uses whips as her strife specibi (her weapon of choice), but after her death she uses no weapons, just her telekinesis, even once she becomes a robot.

She has long, thick, curling ram-like horns and long curly black hair. While she's a ghost, her eyes are white. And her zodiac sign is Aries.

Third Person:

Aradia pushed her shovel into the soft earth with a quiet hum of contentment, using just a touch of telekinesis to help it to bite more deeply. Behind her, her hive rose into the air, her lusus sunning itself on the roof and watching its charge with placid eyes.

It was a good dusk, the sun well behind the curve of the planet and the night crisp and dim. A perfect night to be excavating, especially because she had found something. Her shovel scraped against stone over and over as she cleared away the dirt, and then she hunkered down to clear the rest away, revealing a portal with a strange circular symbol on it, like this one.

With a smile, Aradia used the shovel to lever the door open and slipped into the tunnel beneath. The spirits whispers increased, an urgent murmur in the back of her mind, driving her forward. Whatever she found here, she was sure it was important. And pretty exciting! She couldn't wait to tell Sollux about this, though he probably wasn't going to care much unless it had something to do with computers.

While your general grasp of Aradia's character appears to be quite sound, we are concerned about some of the points raised in her character notes. Even though you are indeed starting Aradia off in her pre-death days, when someone applies for a character from a canon as complex and ~~wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey~~ temporally malleable as Homestuck, particularly a character that ultimately has a greater understanding of events than others, we need to be sure they understand what's going on so that they'll be able to interact with other castmates etc. successfully.

Additionally, as a further query, will Aradia be using DDD as a memo during play insted of a site in a browser? The format you have used seems more like a sample from IC chat rather than typical Livejournal gameplay.

Yeah, I understand. Actually I'm caught up now and I don't think I have any trouble grasping what's going on, but I felt stupid continuing to edit and thought that editing every time I learned something new and relevant might be more annoying then me just leaving it as it is. Do you want me to add to the history section with the rest of the revelations relating to Aradia in the more recent updates, or do you want to quiz me or what?

I was writing the samples as if it was a memo, yeah, partly to show that I know how she talks. I'm flexible about whether she would treat it like a memo or a browser while I actually play her. I don't think it would matter too much, only that if it were a memo possibly I could do timeline shenanigans with past, present and future Aradia, while if it were a browser it would remain linear according to her subjective timeline... though as she's the Maid of Time she can hop around timelines as she chooses anyway.

If it were a browser she'd still use her blood colour and quirks IMO, just that the usernames wouldn't show up in front of each line. But her livejournal username would still be apocalypseArisen (regardless that it's too long for LJs username character limit o9). And anyway I just woke up and I'm babbling now. I guess my point is, do you care and which would you prefer I do? Because I don't actually care that much, though it makes sense that the Homestuck cast be consistent.

Lemme know what you want me to do about the wibbly wobbly stuff. As a note, I know that she blew up because Derse was destroyed (and therefore her dream self was killed) by Jack but because her dream self was on her quest bed at the time that caused her to achieve godhood and return to life. She froze Jack for a bit, but that was dangerous and took all of her power, so she absconded to the green sun in the furthest ring, then discovered that it was one of her own robot alternate selves that crashed in her back yard and resulted in the SGRUB server disk being found in the troll universe.

Then she dragged the robot version of her, Sollux, Jade, Tavros and Kanaya into a bubble and explained how they were all manipulated to gather the code to create Doc Scratch, the same way Bec was made from Rose' DNA code to be the first guardian of Earth.

...okay that was probably what you wanted to know I knew, but if you want more lemme know.

That does actually clear up our concerns, yes, as it was particularly the lack of information on her soulbot exploding that made us worry that you were unclear on events in canon. Now that you are all caught up and have shown you certainly do know what's what in regards to her life (...such as it is), we are okaying your character notes.

You should still be allowed to be flexible with time, even if she was using it as a browser. Time seems to be malleable in other areas of the Internet in Homestuck, as Rose's walkthrough was uploaded to the Furthest Ring server, allowing it to be accessed by Kanaya millions of years in the past. You could possibly, permissions allowing, have Aradia post outside of her natural order, such as a robot post followed by a dead post. Crossing yourself any further than that in the style of Karkat's kismesistic shenanigans is probably not such a hot idea, though.

PLOT INTRICACIES AND PERSONAL OPINION ASIDE, it seems that for the sake of ease of reading for other players (oh the irony), it would be best to stick to a browser format.

Yeah, I realized that when I was reading I was like jeez okay I should have probably held off on apping until I had caught up. But when I wrote the app I had just done that little game where you walk around as Karkat/Terezi/etc. and thought the bot was about to blow up and that was that for her. Then I got to those bits and was like fuuuuuuuuuu, but I decided that editing a million times when you guys might just not care was silly.

And you have a good point about the walkthrough! I'll definitely do the browser thing, and keep things chronological unless there's reason not to. And I'll ask permission for timeline shenanigans o7
