[the video flicks on to show a darkened bedroom - it's compact, with a single bed and white walls. it'd be pretty barren and utilitarian if it weren't for the Avengers posters tacked up on the walls and the laundry draped over the edge of a dresser drawer. Teddy's arm fills half the screen at first, before he pulls his hand down from readjusting his webcam and gives the video a wan little smile.
he maybe looks a little pale, but it's hard to tell considering the only light in the room is from his computer screen]
So, yet another nightmare. You know, I'm getting pretty tired of this whole insomnia thing, but there's not a lot I can do about it without having to get a prescription from someone for a sleep aid.
[he forces a little chuckle and pushes his fingers back through unruly short blond hair]
I never had this problem before, so I really don't know exactly how to deal with it. It's only been since my mom died...then again, that makes sense, doesn't it? Maybe it's some stage of grieving, but I still don't feel like it's even real.
[he pauses a moment, then pulls up one knee and rests his chin on it, his expression pensive]
Wish Billy was here. It'd probably be easier to sleep, then.
Third Person:
Okay, so maybe it was a big deal after all.
All of it, really. Teddy's life had been changing a lot over the past little bit, since Iron Lad showed up and told him that there was a good reason he could shape-change and things, that that reason was being part of the Avengers fail-safe program, and that he was a superhero. It was enough to make the most stoic of nerds wet themselves, really. A giant shout-out from the world at large. Teddy Altman, you are cool after all. And this time it's for all the right reasons.
Still, it was always just a bit staggering how, in moments like this, meeting one of his teammates could upstage the entire fact that he was part of an Avengers reboot.
"Why won't you just behave?" he asked his reflection, or at least the reflection of a particularly stubborn strand of blond hair that stuck up when all he wanted was for it to smooth down.
Being a superhero? Maybe a little scary - okay, actually really scary - but he could handle it. Going on his third date with Billy Kaplan? Terrifying. Why he could not just be the confident, cool guy he played the part of at school he didn't know, but when Billy was concerned he became all awkward angles and witty banter. He wasn't sure exactly what it was Billy saw in him...
...but he sure as hell wasn't going to turn down the universe when it dropped a superhero team and the perfect boy in his lap. Nope. Scary as it was, Teddy - Hulkling - was going to take it as it came.
