Mikaela Banes || Transformers || 2/?

[identity profile] nellasaur.livejournal.com 2010-12-26 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
Character Notes:
History: Mikaela has always lived something of an...unusual life, although she's spent the lion's share of her teenage years denying that. She grew up a total Daddy’s girl, and since her daddy was a greasemonkey, she became one too. Papa Banes taught his little girl practical things like how to dismantle, clean, and reassemble the engines of cars.

Unfortunately, Mikaela grew up poor. Even more unfortunately, that didn't stop her dad from 'obtaining' more vehicles to work on, and sometimes Mikaela had to tag along on his expeditions. By the time she hit high school, Mikaela had a record; she refused to point the finger at her dad when they got busted for stealing cars. Despite her attempts to protect him, Papa Banes ended up in jail...

And Mikaela went to high school. By the time we first meet her in Transformers, there's no sign of the greasemonkey her father brought her up to be. She's little more than jock arm candy, honestly, hanging off handsome boys with big arms. She's gorgeous and she knows it, and she's not afraid to work it and reap the "rewards"--namely, popularity.

We see almost immediately that things are not all that they seem with the arm candy, though. Upon being refused permission to drive head dick Trent's jumped-up SUV--because all guys know chicks can't drive, amirite?--she chooses to walk home.

This is the chance Sam Witwicky's been waiting for, and he offers her a ride home in his brand-spanking new junker of an old Camaro. Mikaela accepts, and is subjected to a full dose of Sam's awkward flirting. It doesn't much help that his car is determined to give him a hand, assisting with appropriate music and convenient engine failure. At least Bumblebee gives Mikaela a chance to trot out some of that greasemonkey heritage of hers?

That probably would have been it for Mikaela's involvement in that whole giant alien robot thing, if it weren't for Sam crashing his bike right in front of her while he's attempting to escape from his demon car a few days later. Curious, Mikaela follows him on her motor scooter, and is very nearly flattened by Barricade for her curiosity. Panicked, she and Sam pile into the very car Sam was trying to escape, who takes off with them. Barricade pursues them, and Sam and Mikaela are treated to front-row view of Bumblebee and Barricade beating the bolts out of each other. Unfortunately, the two of them don't get to watch long, and Mikaela gets a chance to show off her badass side as she fends off an attack from Frenzy.

Bumblebee comes out the ultimate victor in the fight, and for the first time 'speaks' to them. He reveals that he's an alien, then transforms and opens his doors in obvious invitation. Mikaela is hesitant to climb in, but Sam manages to convince her, and the two of them drive off.

Bumblebee, after a pause to acquire a new and shinier alt-mode, takes them to meet the rest of the Autobots, who've only recently arrived on Earth. Optimus Prime introduces them, and tells the two young humans who they are, why they're on Earth--and why Sam's been targeted.

The whole contingent of Autobots and Mikaela accompany Sam back to his house so he can look for the glasses of his explorer grandfather Archibald Witwicky. Mikaela is supposed to stay in the yard and keep the 'Bots under control, but gets a boost from Optimus himself into Sam’s window to help him search. The chaos the Autobots are causing in the yard--including a blackout caused by Ratchet walking straight into some power lines--attracts the attention of Sam’s parents. Mikaela tries to hide from them initially, but pops up when she realizes how fail Sam is at lying to his parents, managing to distract them where he couldn't. The two of them recover the glasses, but before they can give them to Optimus, Sector Seven shows up.

Along with Sam’s whole family, Mikaela is taken into custody. Agent Simmons attempts to get information about the Autobots out of them, but both of them fail to cooperate. Simmons pervs on Mikaela a little (ew), and then freaks out Sam by revealing that she’s got a criminal record.

The Autobots stop the S7 convoy and recover Sam and Mikaela. Sam's not happy to learn that his hot companion is a criminal; Mikaela basically tells him to check his damn privilege and lets him know that it's because she refused to turn in her dad when he got nabbed for theft.

S7 attacks again, capturing Bumblebee. Sam and Mikaela try to convince them to let him go, and are recaptured themselves. They're taken to the Hoover Dam, where they meet up with other people who've dealt with these aliens, including Captain Lennox and the surviving members of his military team, and Maggie and Glen the hackers. The lot of them have been brought in to figure out what the hell’s going on--which Sam can help with--and how to stop it--which is where Lennox comes in. Sector 7 has the Allspark, the ancient Cybertronian artifact that's brought the Autobots and the Decepticons both to Earth. They also have Megatron.

Frenzy, who's snuck into Mikaela's bag after she chopped his head off, sneaks back out again and manages to free Megatron. In the midst of a sudden Decepticon assault on the dam, Sam manages to convince S7 to release Bumblebee, who reformats the Allspark from fucking gigantic into itty bitty little thing. Taking the Allspark and the children and accompanied by a military escort, they flee the base.

Of course the Decepticons follow, determined to claim the Allspark for themselves. A salvo by Starscream blows Bumblebee’s legs off. Sam is given the Allspark and takes off with it; Lennox tells Mikaela to get herself to safety, but she won't leave the grievously injured Bumblebee there. It's only once she's got the injured Autobot strapped to a tow truck that she flees.

But she doesn't go far. Though Mikaela finds herself overwhelmed by the admittedly TERRIFYING experience of being in the middle of a warzone, she realizes that the Autobots need Bumblebee. Gathering her courage, she plunges them both right back into the battle, driving her tow truck backwards through the streets of Mission City so 'Bee can fire on Decepticons.

In the end, the Allspark is destroyed and the Decepticons killed or driven off. Mikaela and Sam return to their quiet town of Tranquility, accompanied by Bumblebee, who's requested to remain Sam's guardian. While the Autobots and the US government try to figure out what to do next, Sam and Mikaela start dating and enjoy the rest of their summer.

And Mikaela joins a little site called LiveJournal, finding herself a member of a community called DDD. She is joined by Sam, Bumblebee, Arcee, Maggie, and even, briefly, Ratchet (and some Decepticons and stuff, lame). She goes through all kinds of community-related shenanigans. Notable among them are being kidnapped by Hades (who later forgot her), sharing her home for a time with both Tieria Erde and Ty Lee, getting a car from Bruce Wayne (and then later selling it and buying a really bitching motorcycle instead), being turned into a bird for a few days, attending a costume ball on the arm of Apollo, receiving a cat with laser vision as a pet from the Master, and convincing Miles Edgeworth to go see a movie with her. (These are not listed in chronological order.) She makes a lot of friends and even some enemies, and learns that there are many universes out there with Cybertronians, not just her own.

This, in particular, proves to be a problem. Mikaela gets caught in the crossfire of a battle between her world's Bonecrusher and the Megatron from Sari's world, and has her legs stomped off. She spends a lot of time recovering at the military's Autobot liaison base under the ministrations of Apollo's son Asclepius. Just as she's starting to get handy with her wheelchair, Apollo himself comes and regenerates her legs in their entirety. Unfortunately, she's not left without (metaphorical) scars of the incident, and suffers from nightmares and occasional, unexplainable leg pain.

Despite the interruption in her life, Mikaela manages to graduate on time from high school, along with Sam. (Thanks, Tieria!) That summer, among VARIOUS OTHER COMMUNITY SHENANIGANS I AM SURE, everyone on the community from her world gets species swapped, and Mikaela gets to spend some time Cybertronian. It's an interesting experience for her, to say the least. She also spends a few days on the Ptolemy, thinking that she’s married to Tieria. Understandably, this strains her relationship with Sam, especially since she can't deny being very close to Tieria even without the influence of the virus.

Not long after that, her dad gets released from prison! The two of them got a job together in a motorcycle repair shop.

When Sam gets accepted to college halfway across the country, he asks Mikaela to join him. She refuses, saying she needs to help support her dad--which is true enough, although she's made enough money in the recent sale of her Lamborghini that she could probably support her dad from across the country without a problem. She worries about him, though, and with things so strained between her and Sam, she doesn't want to move, so Sam goes off without her--but not before giving her a fragment of the Allspark that had been hidden in her clothes to keep safe.

It's obvious, though, that her relationship with Sam is a bit troubled. He misses their first webcam date, and she's pissed when he calls her the next day, babbling about having a breakdown in class and asking her to bring the fragment to him. When the Decepticon agent Wheelie sneaks into her garage to try and steal it, Mikaela realizes something big is going on. She locks the little 'Con in a metal case, grabs the shard, and takes off for Princeton.

Upon her arrival there, she finds Sam making out with another girl, which doesn't help things much. Of course, that other girl is the Pretender Alice, who was trying to get information from him and proceeds to try and capture them, but she's still pissed. The two of them, plus Sam's tagalong roommate Leo, manage to evade Alice, only to be snagged by Grindor Blackout, who's operating under the returned Megatron's instructions.

Mikaela can do nothing but watch, horrified, as Megatron and Scalpel pin Sam down and probe his brain for the information they believe to be stored there. Upon confirmation that he does know something, the decision is made to remove his brain, but before that can happen, the Autobots descend on the warehouse. Prime rescues Sam, and Bumblebee takes off with Mikaela and Leo.

After Prime's fall at Megatron's hands in the forest, Sam rejoins the others. The three humans, accompanied by Bumblebee, Skids, and Mudflap, are forced to go to ground when the Fallen comes to Earth and publically reveals himself, broadcasting a demand for Sam to the entire planet.

Desperate to figure out what's going on inside Sam's head, what the significance of his hallucinations are, Leo suggests that they visit the online rival of his conspiracy information site. This turns out to be Simmons, who, despite his initial reluctance, agrees to help them. In Simmons' sub-deli lair, Mikaela releases Wheelie from his captivity, and the little Decepticon tells them they need a Seeker to read the symbols in the ancient language Sam’s been seeing.

They find one at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, using the tiny Allspark fragment to reactivate him--before they decide to check his alliance, for some reason. The newly awakened Jetfire, however, is quick to renounce the Decepticon faction, triggering Wheelie to do the same and pledge his allegiance to his warrior-goddess, Mikaela.

Jetfire transports the whole group, via space bridge, to Egypt and informs them that they need to find the Matrix of Leadership before Megatron and the Fallen, lest the Decepticon leader and his patron use it to activate a device that could destroy the sun. Still on the run, the group starts searching, and a tender moment between Sam and Mikaela is ruined as Sam realizes what the clue that Jetfire's given them means. The group travels to Petra, where they're able to find the tomb of the Primes. The Matrix crumbles to dust as they try to recover it, dismaying Mikaela and the others, but Sam refuses to give up. He gathers the dust in a nasty sock and insists that they continue onwards. He's convinced that this is the key they need to resurrect Prime, and is determined to meet the rendezvous Simmons arranged with Lennox and his NEST troops.

Of course, the Decepticons make that difficult, with Starscream shelling them before they're anywhere near the rendezvous site. Sam and Mikaela continue on foot, attempting to use the cover of villages and ruins around the Great Pyramids and Egypt to get to Optimus' body without being squashed. Sam's nearly caught by the 'Cons when they reveal that they've captured his parents, but a timely intervention by Bumblebee deals with that threat. 'Bee takes Sam's parents to safety, and Sam tells Mikaela to go, but she refuses. She's going to stick with him.

They manage to make it through heavy Decepticon fire to the relative safety of the Autobot emplacement. Then they try to run to the body of Prime, to use the Matrix dust to reanimate him, and in that desperate dash Sam is caught by a shot fired by Megatron.

The impact is fatal, and as she sobs and begs him to pull through, Mikaela tells him that she loves him, words that haven't yet passed between them. After a few harrowing moments, though, Sam is resurrected thanks to the original seven Cybertronian Primes. He tells Mikaela that he loves her too, and then uses the restored Matrix to bring Prime back to life.

Things are better between them after that, but Mikaela is still stressed out. She and Sam spend some time in the custody of NEST, being debriefed about the incident in Egypt. When they’re finally back in the US, Sam returns to college.

He asks her again to move out to the East Coast, but she refuses. Not long after that, she receives an offer from Tieria to come back to his world and join him on the Ptolemy as a mechanic. She refuses that, too, knowing it would destroy her relationship with Sam, but was terribly tempted regardless...

Not long after that, Mikaela stopped using her LJ and posting to the community. She’s probably been working at the garage and dealing with her dad and stuff since she’s been gone.

Mikaela Banes || Transformers || 6/7

[identity profile] nellasaur.livejournal.com 2010-12-26 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
On the surface, Mikaela is nothing more than your usual shallow teenage girl. Even worse, she's a shallow teenage girl who knows that she's gorgeous--and knows how to use that to her advantage, perhaps the first indication that there are depths to this girl. While she's far from a genius, there's no doubt that she's sharp, and she knows how to use what she's been given.

Mikaela is gregarious and enthusiastic, making friends easily. She's fairly open about herself and the things she’s been through, especially on DDD, and gets more comfortable every day with being a greasemonkey as well as a bombshell. Mikaela can be incredibly playful, and is definitely not above saying raunchy or provoking things just to get a reaction. However, there are still cards that she plays close to the vest--she tends to only discuss her deepest fears and vulnerabilities with her best friends.

She's fiercely loyal to the people she holds most dear. People like her father and Sam (though her relationship with both of them is strained), Bumblebee and some of the other Autobots, and her very best friends through DDD can count on Mikaela to defend them stalwartly, sometimes to the point of foolhardiness. Mikaela can be stubborn as a bull when she's got her mind set about something. This especially comes into play when someone's talking trash about one of her friends; her loyalty will definitely come into play as she defends them. She is capable of seeing her friends' flaws, and she can be reasoned with, but she doesn't take the things she loves being attacked very well.

While she's not a trained warrior, she's also not afraid of throwing herself into danger when she thinks it's necessary, and had shown a particular knack for improvising weapons out of the things around her.

Though she's had to mature rapidly in a lot of ways in the past few years, Mikaela is still a teenage girl. She can be incredibly strong and incredibly stubborn, yes. She's been in the middle of a war zone multiple times, and has seen people suffering badly. She knows that sometimes you have to risk everything to do the right thing, and has a very well-defined sense of what's right and what's wrong, what's good and what's evil. But at the same time, she can be stubborn when she shouldn't be. She doesn't know everything, and can make decisions rashly or based on incomplete information. She's incredibly proud and sometimes vain. She does stupid things, says stupid things, and still makes mistakes. Sometimes, she can't help being selfish.

In short, though she’s growing up, Mikaela’s still young, and sometimes she acts like it.

First Person (entry type):
God, people can be so fucking stupid sometimes, y'know? I caught another stupid high-schooler trying to make off with my bike again today! Ripped off some of the paneling and made a friggin' mess of the wiring behind it trying to figure out how to hotwire the thing. I had to stay after in the shop for, like, an hour trying to set it all straight!

It's gotta be the fourth or fifth time this has happened to me, too. The boss keeps telling me I should park it in the shop like everyone else does when they're working, but he doesn't seem to realize the stupid spiky thing isn't gonna fit. Not in any way that'll give me room to still work! And Daddy just keeps trying to tell me I should sell it. He thinks it's weird, I guess... But that thing worldhops, y'know? It's not like it'd be exactly easy to get another one like it!

I'm not gonna lie, though, I've...kinda been thinking about it lately. I mean, it's handy and all, but when was the last time I 'hopped on it? Six months ago?

...Maybe I should think about selling it and getting something a little more...mundane?

Third Person:
Mikaela Banes loved Sam Witwicky. She’d loved him for a long time, though she probably couldn't have pinpointed when, exactly, she'd started to. Sometimes, when she was feeling romantic, she'd try to convince herself that she'd been in love with him since Mission City.

That was a lie, though. Sam was sweet, and he was definitely the best boyfriend she'd ever had, but he was also still a stupid boy sometimes. Though he never frustrated her the way Trent and the others like him had, Sam still sometimes drove her crazy. The way he was so convinced he wasn't good enough for her, the way he sometimes didn't even try being romantic because he was so convinced he'd fail at it...

It was enough to drive a girl insane, and it had taken Mikaela a while to decide that the good things outweighed the bad ones. He was dorky, but he was also charming, and when he did manage to be romantic, it was always sweeter than any other boyfriend she'd ever had. Plus, his parents were sonice--if a little weird, sometimes.

She was completely convinced that she loved Sam with all of her heart... But if he didn't get the picture and stop trying to get her to move across the country to live with him, she was going to hitch a ride with one of the other 'Bots over to Princeton just so she could throttle him.
