Character Notes: History: -Shin's father died when he was very young, leaving the young boy to be raised by his older sister and his chronically ill mother. -Shortly before his fifteenth birthday, Shin saved the life of a baby orca he found beached near their house. In thanks, the creature led him to an underwater cave, where he discovered the Suiko armor. Shin realized he was destined to be one of the five legendary Samurai Troopers who would save the world from the evil demon warlord Arago. -Arago took over Tokyo. Bummer. - Together with the other four Samurai troopers (Ryo, Seiji, Shuu, and Touma), and the help of Nasuti, Jun, and Byakuen (who is, in fact, a tiger) they set out to defeat Arago. Twice. -At first, the five were unable to unite their hearts and minds to fight as a team. However, after about a season’s worth of bickering, they finally united and were able to summon the Kikoutei armor and save Tokyo and the world. -One year later, Seiji was lured to New York City where a necromancer and psychologist working together managed to infiltrate his nightmares and, through them, control his armor. Shin traveled with the remaining three to New York, and from there they chased the evil duo to Los Angeles (because, in this series there is nowhere you cannot drive to within 1 episode), where they were eventually able to defeat the two and save Seiji's armor. -The following year (Shin's junior year in high school), Shinjuku was transformed into Tanzania, and the five found themselves locked in a battle with Mukara, who could summon a Dark Kikoutei armor. In the fight, Shin froze up, and Ryo was unable to summon the Kikoutei armor. He and Seiji were, once again, kidnapped. -The remaining two Troopers blamed Shin for flinching, and after some season-1 reminiscent bickering, Shin threw his first ever punch. Horrified with his behavior, Shin left the house in tears. While Shuu and Touma went off to rescue Seiji and Ryo, Shin summoned Suiko and swore never to fight again. He kicked the armor into the ocean. He then sat there and proceeded to sulk for two days. -After a stern talking to from the tiger, Shin realized he was being a spoiled brat and followed the others to Tanzania. He arrived just in time to see the Dark Kikoutei corrupting their Yoroi. With all five joined once again, they were able to summon the Kikoutei and fight back. Although the battle destroyed both armors, it removed the taint of possession from all the Samurai Troopers, including Mukara, who was not actually evil and had just been possessed. -In the final (and trippiest) battle the Samurai Troopers faced, they were haunted by a vengeful ghost named Suzunagi. She used her powers to trap each Trooper, one by one, in an elaborate hallucinatory stage play. Shin was the second Trooper captured. However, Suzunagi's bonds were inadequate to hold the troopers, and they were still able to combine the power in their hearts when Ryo remained uncaptured.
Personality: Shin is the eldest and most reluctant of the Samurai Troopers. He has a very sensitive and gentle soul. He was raised by his mother and sister, and as a result he's always very polite and reserved. His enjoys cooking, but he also like doing flower arrangements and tea ceremonies. His other hobbies are basketball and, of course, swimming, but he's good at any sport that requires a large lung capacity.
The most important thing to Shin are his friends. He is always very in tune to the feelings of others, and it physically pains him to know someone he cares about is in pain. He can always be counted on to see past the surface facade when something is really bothering someone, and while he might be too polite to confront it directly, he'll try to make them feel better with tiny acts of kindness, like cooking for them or bringing them presents. He is a pacifist and hates fighting, but more than that, he hates seeing his friends get hurt.
It takes a great deal to anger him, but he's one of the most dangerous samurai troopers. He doesn't flash through emotions like the other four. When he is angry, his aggression stays focused and burns for a long time. Hurting his friends (or the fishies) is the quickest way to anger him.
His virtue is “trust” or “faith,” both of which aptly describe his nature.
Other: Shin bears the Suiko armor. Like all the Yoroi, his armor and sub-armor grants him heightened speed, strength, and agility, making him deadly in combat. He fights with a trident whose prongs can close like crab claws, allowing him to grip or rip his enemies. He also carries a tanto sword and is skilled with it, though we rarely see him use it. His special attack is Chou Ryu Ha (Super Wave Crush) which sends a powerful rush of water to swamp his enemies.
Additionally he can communicate marine life. In the water, fish and other sea creatures will come to his aid without being asked, and he's friends with Suiki, the wild Orca he saved from beaching as a baby. The water super-charges his yoroi, so if his power is ever depleted, he can return to the ocean to heal, and when he's fighting in the water, his powers are amplified and he's practically invincible.

First Person (entry type): [Voice] ...Was Touma playing with the computer again? This doesn’t look right... boo. Well, I guess I’ll just try again. No harm done...
Ah, still? How irritating... This appears to be recording.
Hello? If this is broadcasting, then perhaps someone can assist me. I’m looking for a recipe for Peking Duck served on bao, but I keep getting redirected here. Shuu says I can’t make it as well as his mother. I think he’s just saying that because he knows I can’t resist a challenge and he wants me to cook for him, but I have to admit it’s working.
But this doesn't look like a cooking site. Is it?
Third Person: Shin sat at the edge of the shore and closed his eyes. He leaned back against the sand and let his body arch forward towards the sun, like a cat seeking out the warmest spot on the living room floor. He'd pulled his pants up above his knees and the waves lapped at his ankles, sliding a little further up with every wave as the tide came in.
He knew, without really thinking about it, that the waves wouldn't come up past his knees. Like he always knew exactly when high tide would be, and what days the currents made it unsafe to swim versus what days the water was absolutely perfect and clear. He'd always known, and it was one of those things he'd never questioned about himself. His mother had never said or done anything that would indicate he was strange. He hadn't even known that not everyone was like this until that trip to the beach with his class in third grade. And he hadn't understood why he was special until his fifteenth birthday.
His mother always said, “There's a reason for all things – you'll understand in time.” He'd never doubted her until now, but... he was just so tired of the fighting, the failures. Even the victories were growing more bitter, as each one drained more and more of his energy. He felt empty. He knew he wasn't the only one who felt it, but none of the others let it bother them. They had the courage and determination that let them persevere, that let them not feel things the way he did. They had a lot of things he didn't. Seiji and Touma -- they were so smart. In different ways, sure, but so smart that it was scary sometimes just to see their brains working. Shuu was the strongest person he'd ever known, in every way. Mentally, emotionally, it was like hurt bounced off him the same way hits did. And Ryo was just -- Ryo was a hero. They were very few but Ryo, undeniably, was one, because he had it all. He could fight like Shuu and plan like Touma and heal like Seiji and it never broke him. Shin loved them for it. He loved them all. But how was he meant to compete with that? He got pretty good grades and he stayed out of trouble but his friends -- they were special. And he just wasn't -- not in a bad way, just the way he was. So if everything happened for a reason, what was the reason for choosing him?
Even that would be okay, but he couldn't carry the burden. With every battle he grew more afraid that this time he would break. He didn't mind being average but he couldn't bear the thought of letting his friends down.
So he kept fighting. They were strongest together, when their hearts were united. He couldn’t walk away, because no matter how he faltered, Suiko had to remain strong. So he held on, and did his best to keep up, and he hoped that he would be just strong enough to be there for his friends when they needed him.
[Shin adjusts the camera then, once he has it in focus, settles back. He looks equally amused and irritated as he tosses red hair from his eyes.]
Alright, Community, I believe I need some help.
Think of your best friend. Assume, for this scenario, that he or she was raised by a family of chefs and knows how to cook. [From the background come muffled sounds of protest, which Shin pointedly ignores.] Now, say that this best friend of yours took your frying pan -- your favorite frying pan -- and made burgers in it. Only he forgot to grease it first, leaving the bottom a scorched crust. I believe the word "indelible" was used.
Finally, imagine that, having practically ruined the pan in the first place, he then attempted to scrub it with steel wool and, I must say, was so successful that he actually gouged out portions of the bottom of the pan.
[The sounds of protest, while still indistinct, grow louder, and Shin raises his voice to compensate.] What would you determine to be a suitable punishment for this friend? The leading contender, at the moment, is "bathe the tiger," but I'm open to more suggestions.
[Obviously, Shin isn't aware that this is recording. In the forefront of the video is a small, sky blue orb, about the size of a large marble, that seems to be glowing. It's resting on a pair of shoes and socks that look like they were hastily shoved off to the side.
Further away, down the end of a pier, is Shin. Sure enough, he's barefoot, and standing in the water with his shirt sleeves and pants rolled up. The hems of his pants still seem to be getting wet, but he doesn't seem to mind.
Beside him, half breached in the surf, is a tremendously large orca. Shin is splashing water over her back and laughing as he rubs it along his fins. She makes a whistling, popping noise, and he turns. His eyes focus on his phone, and he comes over to pick it up.] You're right! It was on!
