History: A long time ago (maybe three or four months, in fact) in a galaxy far, far away (or at least on a premium cable channel), there existed a land by the name of Equestria. A world of ponies and magic, Equestria was ruled peacefully for years innumerable by the powerful Princess Celestia. Responsible for the sun rising and setting every day, one could argue that she ruled the land far more thoroughly than your normal monarch. Not all was as it seemed, though - a thousand years prior, there was another princess alongside Celestia who was in charge of the nighttime. However, she grew jealous of the ponies' love for the daytime and the fact that they slept through her beautiful night, and conspired to steal away the day from all of Equestria, leaving nothing but an endless darkness. She was stopped and sealed within the moon by Princess Celestia, who took the moon mare's duties over in her absence.

One thousand is a very powerful number, though, and one that is quite important in prophecies. It was foretold that on the longest day of the thousandth year of Nightmare Moon's imprisonment, the cosmos would be in proper alignment for her to be freed once more. However, one thousand years is much longer than the lifetime of any normal pony, so the prophetic warning faded into obscurity, waved off as a simple fairy tale by all but a single girl by the name of Twilight Sparkle, a young unicorn who just happened to be Princess Celestia's prized student. She tried her best to warn Princess Celestia of the oncoming troubles, but was met with a confounding reply - that she needed to get her nose out of those stuffy old books and spend some time making friends, instead. As a pretext to just that, Celestia sent Twilight to the town of Ponyville to make sure preparations for their one thousandth Sun Festival were properly underway.

At the same time, coaching a chorus of birds large and small to sing their little birdy hearts out for the Princess's arrival at the festival was a pegasus by the name of Fluttershy. That rehearsal was cut short, though, as Twilight Sparkle cantered into Fluttershy's life, spooking the heck out of the timid pegasus. She was a new pony. More importantly than that, she snuck up on her and now she was asking all these questions! Absolutely, positively terrified, Fluttershy wanted nothing more than to just go find a hole somewhere and hide in it... that is, until Twilight's companion, a dragon hatchling named Spike, poked his head up from behind Twilight's mane. Not only was he so adorable that she could squeal, but he also wasn't a pony that would think she was strange or anything! She opened up almost immediately to the dragonling, filling him in on all she was doing to help with the festival's proceedings.

On a normal year's Sun Festival, that would be that, and that would be the end of the story. But this wasn't a normal Sun Festival. The prophecy came true, and instead of setting the sun on the longest day of the year, Princess Celestia turned up missing. In her place was the dreadful Nightmare Moon, who set the sun... but vowed that it would be for good! Nobody knew what to do... except for Twilight Sparkle. Knowing the only way to stop Nightmare Moon was to gather the Elements of Harmony, Twilight set off for the Everfree Forest, an unnatural place where things like weather and plant growth just... happened, with no influence from ponies whatsoever. But she was not alone - five other ponies, all considering themselves friends of Twilight Sparkle, walked in the forest along with her, including the timid Fluttershy.

Though her skittish nature kept her from tackling most obstacles head-on, Fluttershy's own skills came into play more than once - with the help of another pegasus named Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy's flight saved Twilight from a terrible fall almost right away.

Further in, though, was where Fluttershy would prove an invaluable companion. Deep in the Everfree Forest dwelled a vicious manticore, a creature the likes of which Ponyville had never seen. It batted away the ponies one by one, having no problem besting them... but it wasn't a pony, it was an animal. One Fluttershy understood. In a lot of ways, it was just a big ol' kitty... and kitties didn't act that mean normally. Making sure to approach the manticore carefully, she calmed it with soothing, reassuring words, slowly edging closer and taking a look -- sure enough, the cause for the manticore's grumpiness was a rather large thorn in its paw. It was a little tricky to remove, but before long, she removed it from the manticore's paw, showing great kindness and helping her friends through.

All of Twilight's new friends were tested in such a manner, and at the end they encountered Nightmare Moon who put the power of the group to its ultimate test. Unfazed, Twilight activated the Elements of Harmony, even managing to unearth the hidden sixth Element, and managed to vanquish the evil of Nightmare Moon, changing her back into the moon princess Luna. The crisis thus averted, it was nearly certain that Twilight would return home to the land of Canterlot, but in something that came as a surprise to nearly everyone, Twilight decided her time in Ponyville was not over, that she needed to stay and study friendship in all its forms.

From that day forth, the six ponies were the closest of friends, though Fluttershy usually kept herself out of the limelight. She didn't want to impose, after all, and just seeing her friends be happy was usually good enough for her. While the others never saw their time afterwards quite as hectic as those first two days, Fluttershy's seen more than her share of adventure. From having to convince a fully-grown dragon to leave Equestria before it fills the skies with lung-choking smoke to rescuing a group of younger ponies - along with her friend Twilight - from a cockatrice, Fluttershy's ability to empathize with animals has made her life quite hectic since Twilight Sparkle came to town. Usually, though, she's content to spend her time seeing to the animals of Ponyville, caring for them and treating them with the love and affection she can't quite show other ponies, though she always makes time to spend with her friends.

Personality: It says it right in her name: she flutters, and she's shy. Nobody knows why Fluttershy is so timid - either nobody has thought to ask, or they simply haven't gotten a straight answer out of her. However, that timid side is never as strong as when she has to interact with other ponies. When she's alone, or taking care of her non-pony friends, she's much more confident, even if she's still certainly soft-spoken.

Even though she's timid and skittish, Fluttershy has a blatant curiosity towards things she's never seen before, and is a fair bit more learned than she lets on, even managing to surprise her friends at times with how much she's knows. In fact, when she gets more relaxed and sheds her shyness, she can be downright emotionally overwhelming, almost childlike in her happier moments.

Fluttershy has an odd affinity for dealing with animals other than ponies - she seems to know what they want and need in order to be happy, and is happy to see to just that. This affinity spans from creatures as small as cats and rabbits to ones as large as manticores and dragons.

Speaking of dragons, she's deathly afraid of them. They're gigantic, breathe fire, they're able to eat a pony in a single gulp if they're so inclined... hatchlings like Spike don't phase her in the slightest, but the very thought of a fully grown dragon is enough to paralyze the pegasus with complete, abject terror.

There's one thing stronger than her fear of dragons, though, and that's her sense of justice. She absolutely refuses to see anybody getting picked on by someone larger or stronger than themselves. You can kick her around, insult her, scare her to bits, but if you mess with her friends, or pick on defenseless children? She WILL stop you. She's a nonviolent pony, and would never harm a fly, but if she puts her mind to it, you WILL stop, and you WILL beg for forgiveness.

Other: REGARDING THE STARE: Fluttershy is a pegasus, and as of such, she doesn't possess the same magical powers as unicorns such as Twilight Sparkle and Rarity. However, there is one power of hers that even unicorns in the know speak of with hushed, revered whispers, referring to it only as "the stare". A facet of her motherly side, The Stare can be best described as "that look your mother gives you when you KNOW you've done wrong and need to fix it RIGHT NOW, MISTER", except amplified a million times over. The stare can reduce full-grown dragons to whimpers. The stare stops small animals dead in their tracks. The stare even allowed Fluttershy to stare down a cockatrice, even as it was turning her to stone. Most importantly, Fluttershy has little to no control as to when she actually does it. There's no say as to if it's a magical power or if it's just the inherent guilt that someone feels when they manage to make a timid, quiet little pony do a complete 180 into Shit Just Got Real mode. All that is known is that the best way to avoid it is to avoid making Fluttershy angry. You won't LIKE her when she's angry.

First Person (entry type): Um... h-h-hello...? I'm... I'm sorry I left the book open for so long without saying anything... b...but... well, Twilight said th-that there'd be other ponies... or... what did she call them..? Pee-pull? People... other people inside the book.

I...I hope I'm not bothering anybody by...by talking, or anything. I don't want to be a bother... but... if there are other worlds out there... what... what are they like? Twilight says you aren't all ponies, so there are creatures other than ponies and dragons and cows that can talk? Do you have magic there, too? Is it really true that some of you don't even have ponies in your world? How do you take care of the leaves in the fall, then, or wake up the animals from hibernation when Winter is over?

I'm sorry, I'm getting all noisy and hyper like my friend Pinkie. I'm...um... Fluttershy. It's a pleasure to meet you all... um... unless it isn't... in... in which case, I'm really, really sorry for bothering you...

Third Person: The cold bothered her a little bit, and it was really really hard work, especially when the snakes woke up in an especially bitey mood, but the day of the Winter Wrap-Up festival was always her favorite. Being in charge of waking up all the animals of Ponyville from their hibernation, Fluttershy was always sure to greet them with a smile and kind words welcoming them back, how was their rest, it's good to see them again! In fact, the changes Twilight Sparkle had made to last year's routine made things so much easier - she could ring the line of bells she kept at her side for the event all at once, and wake up an entire group of fuzzy winter nappers.

"Good afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver! It's good to see you. I know it was all nice and warm in your little beaver beds, but now Spring is here, and you've got to get up and start working on your dam again... I even made sure it was nice and safe for you all winter," the pegasus chimed, smiling warmly at the soft chitters she got in return. Of course, waking up several groups of animals at once had its pitfalls, as something out of the corner of her eye got her attention.

"Now, now! Mr. Boa, it's not nice to eat your neighbors! PUt Mrs. Mouse down right now! She's gotta look after her kids, you know! You wouldn't want them to be all alone, would you?" She eyed the boa, which gave an embarassed nod and closed its jaw, slowly uncoiling from the terrified mouse.

"Don't worry, I'll get you some yummy food as soon as I'm done here..." Once the boa constrictor slithered away, Fluttershy knelt down and nuzzled the rodent, pulling a small wedge of cheese out from her knapsack. "It's alright, Mrs. Mouse. I'm sorry about that, but there's so many families to wake up right now that we've got our hooves full... you have to remember to tell him, though, that no means no..."

Did I actually send the requests for the IC/OOC comms? LJ has no way of keeping track of it, and I'm not sure (due to sucky internet) if the requests got sent or not, and I don't want to spam you guys with the requests or anything.
