Further in, though, was where Fluttershy would prove an invaluable companion. Deep in the Everfree Forest dwelled a vicious manticore, a creature the likes of which Ponyville had never seen. It batted away the ponies one by one, having no problem besting them... but it wasn't a pony, it was an animal. One Fluttershy understood. In a lot of ways, it was just a big ol' kitty... and kitties didn't act that mean normally. Making sure to approach the manticore carefully, she calmed it with soothing, reassuring words, slowly edging closer and taking a look -- sure enough, the cause for the manticore's grumpiness was a rather large thorn in its paw. It was a little tricky to remove, but before long, she removed it from the manticore's paw, showing great kindness and helping her friends through.

All of Twilight's new friends were tested in such a manner, and at the end they encountered Nightmare Moon who put the power of the group to its ultimate test. Unfazed, Twilight activated the Elements of Harmony, even managing to unearth the hidden sixth Element, and managed to vanquish the evil of Nightmare Moon, changing her back into the moon princess Luna. The crisis thus averted, it was nearly certain that Twilight would return home to the land of Canterlot, but in something that came as a surprise to nearly everyone, Twilight decided her time in Ponyville was not over, that she needed to stay and study friendship in all its forms.

From that day forth, the six ponies were the closest of friends, though Fluttershy usually kept herself out of the limelight. She didn't want to impose, after all, and just seeing her friends be happy was usually good enough for her. While the others never saw their time afterwards quite as hectic as those first two days, Fluttershy's seen more than her share of adventure. From having to convince a fully-grown dragon to leave Equestria before it fills the skies with lung-choking smoke to rescuing a group of younger ponies - along with her friend Twilight - from a cockatrice, Fluttershy's ability to empathize with animals has made her life quite hectic since Twilight Sparkle came to town. Usually, though, she's content to spend her time seeing to the animals of Ponyville, caring for them and treating them with the love and affection she can't quite show other ponies, though she always makes time to spend with her friends.

Personality: It says it right in her name: she flutters, and she's shy. Nobody knows why Fluttershy is so timid - either nobody has thought to ask, or they simply haven't gotten a straight answer out of her. However, that timid side is never as strong as when she has to interact with other ponies. When she's alone, or taking care of her non-pony friends, she's much more confident, even if she's still certainly soft-spoken.

Even though she's timid and skittish, Fluttershy has a blatant curiosity towards things she's never seen before, and is a fair bit more learned than she lets on, even managing to surprise her friends at times with how much she's knows. In fact, when she gets more relaxed and sheds her shyness, she can be downright emotionally overwhelming, almost childlike in her happier moments.

Fluttershy has an odd affinity for dealing with animals other than ponies - she seems to know what they want and need in order to be happy, and is happy to see to just that. This affinity spans from creatures as small as cats and rabbits to ones as large as manticores and dragons.

Speaking of dragons, she's deathly afraid of them. They're gigantic, breathe fire, they're able to eat a pony in a single gulp if they're so inclined... hatchlings like Spike don't phase her in the slightest, but the very thought of a fully grown dragon is enough to paralyze the pegasus with complete, abject terror.

There's one thing stronger than her fear of dragons, though, and that's her sense of justice. She absolutely refuses to see anybody getting picked on by someone larger or stronger than themselves. You can kick her around, insult her, scare her to bits, but if you mess with her friends, or pick on defenseless children? She WILL stop you. She's a nonviolent pony, and would never harm a fly, but if she puts her mind to it, you WILL stop, and you WILL beg for forgiveness.
