Okay gais.

Now that it's bitching at me that it's going to convert the wiki over on the 9th anyway, I'm upgrading the DDD Wiki. If there's any problems, it's (probably) not my fault.

It requires registration now; I went ahead and clicked the button to send invites to everyone. Email notifications are on by default, so you'll want to go to your preferences and change that if you don't want them- I didn't disable them for the wiki in case someone still uses them. Comments are enabled, but by all means, continue our grand tradition of vandalizing each other if you will. ♥

Edit 2: And Andrusi found that it does silly things with passwords that way. So, I guess either I go through and remove the users it auto-signed up and then you make accounts, or you do like Andy did and click "reset password."

I'm going to go ahead and go with the former, actually. Nice and clean. ♥ and only a few people actually have nicknames over their email on the admin page, so I can tell which ones are already pbwiki 2.0 accounts. I think.

Also, the rich text editor is still failsauce, so click the "source" button to go into HTML mode.

Edit 3: Okay, cleaned up the users section.

Got a few very important reminders guys, so please listen up.

Firstly, I'd like to direct your attention to the Player Guide and Frequently Asked Questions posts! They're filled with info on DramaDramaDuck and its inner workings, and hopefully will be useful to you whether you're new to the game or an oldbie who could benefit from a refresher on the stuff that's less common. We'd love for you to take this opportunity to go look them over, and feel free to comment here or there with any questions you may have.

Secondly, and most importantly, lately we've seen an increase in players not getting the necessary mod approvals for certain game elements. Certain plots, IC actions, or other elements must have mod approval before they can be used in game. This post details what those elements are, and is the place to go to request said approval, but here's a condensed version. PLEASE READ.

Items Requiring Mod Approval

► World-hopping abilities that aren't based on canon, such as one member giving another a world-hopping vehicle or device

► ALL temporary usages of an appable or non-appable canon character for RLs, journal hacking, etc. This includes but isn't limited to: sentient or semi-sentient talking pets, sidekicks, and other canon characters that aren't a part of DDD's played cast (such as canon-basis family members, friends, or main characters that aren't played in game).

Anyone NPCing a character without having obtained permission beforehand will be asked to stop playing the character immediately, and will be on probation for said character until the proper permission is obtained.

► Large-scale plots that will affect the majority of the community.

► Plots involving the death of one or more characters. (If the death is a canon event, no approval is necessary, but we request that you bring the event to our attention before it happens.)

► Plots involving sensitive subjects. These include but are not limited to: rape, pregnancy (especially including means of ending it, such as abortion or miscarriage), self-harm, death, and suicide (including instances where any of these has a canon basis or is a canon event).

► Personal viruses affecting only a limited number of characters.

► Events (parties, tournaments, meetings, etc., as opposed to plots) involving five or more characters.

See the post linked above for more clarification on these categories, and if you have any questions feel free to ask them here. These lists are also not entirely comprehensive, and in some instances things will need to be approached on a case-by-case basis. If you're working on something that you feel may fall under one of the categories but you aren't sure, please contact one of the mods or modpoles, just to be on the safe side. If necessary, you can even post it in the approval post anyway. If it wasn't something that needed approval, we'll be happy to let you know, and if it was, we'll be able to look it over and give you your answer. :)

Any instances of these elements being used without the proper permission will result in a request from the mod team to stop whatever plot is involved, at which point either permission must be obtained or, if it's decided permission can't be given, said plot might be retconned or stopped permanently. The mods reserve the right to deny or stop the progress of any ongoing plot if necessary, and to remove any NPCs played without permission, regardless of their connection to a player's character.

Aaaaaaand I believe that's it. I'll open the floor to any questions you guys have, and thank you for taking the time to read through my TL;DR. ♥

First order of business: This is a reminder that the character limit goes into effect on January 1, 2009. The magic number is 9, meaning you won't be able to apply for any more characters once you reach the limit.

Players who already have more than 9 won't be asked to drop any characters but will be required to lessen their numbers before they apply for anyone else.

Secondly: After much discussion and weighing the pros and cons, we've decided to open up applications for mythological characters (Greek gods etc.) on a two month trial basis that will also begin on January 1, 2009.

We've reviewed past concerns regarding god characters, and the main issue seems to stem from godmoding, which is a problem that can crop up with any character. Naturally, they'll be subject to the same godmoding rules as everyone else, and anyone found breaking those rules will be handled in the same manner as any other player.

To avoid issues of OOCness, players will be asked to cite specific references or myths that offer insight into characterization.

Note: Applications for any religious figures or deities from top ten active world religions will not be accepted.

Remember, this is a two-month trial; once it's over, we'll see how everything went and then come to a final decision. (If the final decision isn't in favor of gods, characters that were applied for during the trial period will be kept for as long as their players will have them--i.e. we don't expect you to drop them.)

Feel free to comment with any questions or concerns! ♥

Yo, dudes and dudettes. I have a large order of business here, so I hope you take the time to read everything because I'd really like some opinions. ♥

1) Taken Characters List. With Kristel's departure, a few of her duties have been given to me, most notably the upkeep of the taken characters list. One of the things I'd like to do with it is move it over to the journals so people can comment there when they've been approved for a character. The form to fill out would look similar to the one in the concrit directory.

Like so: )

It would help me keep up with the Friend Add list and would make it simple to copy and paste the new character information into the TC list. The downside is, of course, something else for you to fill out when your character is accepted. That would make a form for the PD, a form for the TC, and an optional form for the concrit directory, which can be filled out at any time or not at all.

Overkill? Your thoughts, please. :)

2) Elimination of the Drop Post. With people commenting to the TC list as their characters are accepted, we thought it might save time to eliminate the drop post altogether and have players comment to the TC list when they're dropping characters as well. The one week grace period would, of course, remain in place.

3) Hiatus and Reserves. Not urgent, but we'd love to hear some suggestions on ways we can improve the hiatus and reservation posts. How are they as they stand now? Can you see any ways to improve them?

4) Last but not least... Condensing. We realize we have a lot of lists going (TC, PD, CD...) and have been trying to come up with a feasible way to condense them, but there are several pros and cons (for example: I had initially wanted to combine the TC list with the concrit directory, but we'd run into the problem of people not realizing they can go there for concrit--especially new players. Besides which, after some consideration, I think it's just too much for one list).

Suggestions on ways to feasibly lighten the list load while maximizing efficiency would be awesomely appreciated. ♥

I believe that's it!

Greetings, ducks and duckettes, we're here again with some new preemptive new years resolutions-- Kidding, kidding, but we have been observing what has and hasn't worked for the community application wise and we've decided to refine the application process. We're purging the things that aren't working, adding things we've done before, and adding brand new shiny things to make it that much better.

First of all-- An old friend, the Character Limit. As you know, we already have a fandom limit--a player can have up to three characters from a given fandom--but the moderation/modpoleration teams have come to the consensus that it's about time to reinstate a total character limit. We don't want to limit you too harshly though, so we've made it a broad 9. For those of you who have more than that, like last time, we are allowing you to grandfather that amount in when the change takes place-- HOWEVER. Should you want to add to the brood, you will need to drop the necessary amount of characters to meet the limit with the addition of the character you hope to pick up. You cannot add more on.

The Character Limit will go into affect at the start of the new year-- so from January 1st onward.

Secondly, in an effort to make the application process more understandable, and to address the issue of character OOCness at its core, we've reconstructed the application process. We also realized a big complaint about the current application, from both us moderators and you, the players, is that it's to vague. So, we've re-built the application to include the following:

  • More conclusive character notes section with some changes on our wiki policies.
    • We want you to show us you know your canon. We have encouraged wikipedia use before, but we are now strongly discouraging it. We want you to write something yourself and any application with information taken straight from Wiki or any other website will be rejected.
    • So simply, if we look at the wiki and you've re-worded everything they've said, flat out? You're going to get rejected. You can, however, link your character's wiki to help us get an idea of your character.

  • Samples! They have multiplied!
    • Because of how often we do ask for a first person entry-type sample, we have decided to change it up some. We have officially removed the prompt system in favor of requiring both a third person and first person entry-type sample.
-- Third person will have a word requirement of 150+, which is the current requirement for samples
-- First person will have a word requirement of 100+ words, because we know it's hard to hit the mark with that.
    • As we've come across it a few times now, we want to remind you that lifting lines straight from canon is not cool. That's plagiarizing. Should you be caught doing this, you will first receive a warning, and then a apping restriction and then finally a permaban on applying at [livejournal.com profile] dramadramaduck. Please don't let it get to that last step. Another thing that constitutes plagiarism is stealing samples from other games players.
    • As a side note, we will continue listing prompts so you guys have something to choose from if you can't think of something for your third person. ♥

We will also be supplying you an example of a 'good' and 'bad' application so you can get a better idea of what we're looking for.

POLICIES~~~~~~~~~~~~
Regarding applications! They have been tightened up as well, to cut down on people taking advantage of the system. We have officially changed the monthly rule. Where before, you could apply until you had two accepted characters, it is now a strict two applications a month rule. Should you get rejected, that will still count toward your application limit for the month.
  • Deleting your applications to try and get around this rule will result in a three month restriction from applying. Please don't do this. If you want your application out of the public eye, you can ask us to screen it and we will be more than happy to do so.

Other tweaked policies are as such:
  • THREE rejections for the same character will lead to a three month restriction on applying for that character. We strongly encourage that you play the character as close to canon as you can get; while fanon is fun, it's not always true to the character.
  • Should you get accepted for a character three times, and subsequently drop them three times, you will be restricted from applying for that character for a set amount of time, depending on the situation.
  • That also applies to those who abuse the grace period by dropping and picking up characters frequently that way. If we see that you are abusing the grace period on the drop post, we will revoke your right to have one for a set amount of time depending on the situation. THAT BEING SAID, we understand situations that involve illness, school, family, etc so if you APPROACH US (yes, you can talk to us about this stuff!) and explain the situation, you can avoid being approached BY us about this. As a note, we will always approach you about the situation before exacting any sort of punishment or restriction if you have not taken the initiative. We like to work stuff out and handing out restrictions is the LAST thing we want to do.

FINALLY OH MY GOD WE LOVE YOU. It looks daunting, but please please please have faith in us. We didn't want to throw this all on you at once so this won't be going into effect until NOVEMBER 1ST (apart from the character limit). The new application format will be up at the last of the month, so look forward to that.

Please please please offer any criticisms you might have, we want to hear them, all that we ask is that you be open to any explanations we have to offer in return. ♥

Hello, ducklings! Here for a few matters of business.

With [livejournal.com profile] rp_anon_meme 's return in our midsts, the moderation(pole) team feels it necessary to point out a few things, regarding some player complaints.
  • We cannot moderate any community that is not explicitly a part of [livejournal.com profile] dramadramaduck . That includes all forms of [livejournal.com profile] roleplaysecrets , [livejournal.com profile] rp_anon_meme  or whatever other community is out there. Should someone say something there, we can talk to them but we cannot punish them unless it is brought on comm.
    • What constitutes as a place we can cover is [livejournal.com profile] dramadramaduck , [livejournal.com profile] triple_d_ooc , any sidecomm and any OFFICIAL ddd chatroom (ddd, odd, add).
  • Along the same lines, we really want to encourage you to watch your behavior on these things. If someone says something that rubs you the wrong way? Hold your tongue. The more you guys bicker in these places, anon, not anon, you make us look bad. Flat out. We want to be civil here and find a way to be able to talk to each other without having to worry about anonymous dogpiling or whatnot. We have the reptuation we have for a reason so lets attempt to better ourselves and get a better one, okay?
On a lighter note, we are officially swinging into motion our FIRST ANNUAL LAYOUT CONTEST woo woo woo!
  • You can submit a new layout for either the ooc or ic comm, or even both! We'll have separate polls for each.
  • There will be no limit to how many layouts you can submit-- all we ask is that you use dummy journals (not comms) to show them off to us, instead of screenshots.
  • Feel free to make corrosponding icons for your layout
  • The submission post will be up November 1st and will end the 15th, and polling will be afterward.
  • Axel-mod will be putting up a more informative post soon, so watch out for it!
Anddd now for a small apps policy change! Because of the amount of second sample requests, we have ammended the amount of time you can submit the second sample in-- we were just recieving them far too long down the line (up to 2 weeks after the request). We will now only allow a week for a second sample submission (and that week starts from the day it's requested); after that, your application will be auto-rejected-- however, you are free to resubmit your application, if this happens. As for samples requested before this, you will have a one week grace period from this post.

Also, remember to join our new sidecomm [livejournal.com profile] adddictions ! It's where we encourage you to post out of character memes (character relationship, character opinion, character honesty etc etc) as well as any new things you think the community would get a kick out of, oocly (dragoncave, whatpulse, etc).

Finally, Activity Check ends on TUESDAY, so if you haven't already, submit your activity!

Just as a friendly reminder-

Breaking the fourth wall is sort of part of the premise of DDD. However, not everyone wants their characters spoiled about their own canon, so for etiquette's sake please run that sort of thing past the other mun first. :) That's what we've been doing, but we had a question about it so I'm reiterating.

(And don't overdo it to the point it gets old, of course. Norry wanted me to add that. ♥)

We haven't had any actual complaints about this so far, so let's keep it that way!

Thanks, everyone.

Hey, ducklings ♥

We mod-types are switching duties a little bit FOR GREAT JUSTICE. Here's who's doing what now, so you know who to contact for the fastest results:

News/Announcements: Me (more than willing to pass messages to the others if you need it too~)
Applications: Norry and Shiro
Events: Norry
Taken Characters/FAL: Kristel
Damage Control Player Relations? Not sure what we should call it, really, PR is too much like a business: Psi and Shiro

So yeah. ♥
I'm still on hiatus, sort of- while we're at the motel I have internet time, but I'll be too busy for at least a couple days once I move into the dorm, and I'd guess for at least a week while I'm settling in. Call it a semi-hiatus.

move along

Hi again, it's been a while. :D

First order of business: NPC's and Hacked Entries by NPC's or other characters.

If your character's journal is going to be hacked by an appable character (as in, one that isn't in DDD but could be apped for), we ask that you ask a mod before you do so (all other instances should be figured out between players). If your character is going to be hacked by an NPC (as in a character that cannot be apped) we ask that it be a one time event as in, it does not happen more than once or twice in a long period of time. DDD has started to develop a canon of it's own where we get characters that aren't technically appable because they are original-ddd-canon-based-characters, but that still doesn't mean they can post whenever. Refrain as much as you can; once in a blue moon is okay. If you want to do a contained plot with a few people and have that NPC involved, that's fine-- this is mostly just for general posting. I hope this makes sense! XD If you have questions, please ask them here!

Second order of business: Love.

A lot of business to discuss this time, ducklings!

First of all: Shiro (Tieria-mun) has been added to the modteam! \o/ Congratulations and Welcome (Back)! She will be dealing largely with Public Relations so feel free to approach her with anything. ♥

Secondly: Slight addition to the application-- We will now be asking that you list what characters you currently play at DDD. ♥ This is for our own benefit and so we become familiar with who plays who. We've also swapped out the prompts, so feel free to utilize them in your apps next month, if that's your thing!

Thirdly: A kind reminder for all players to please respect locks and unhackable items. Sometimes it's easy to miss a subject, so we're asking to please please please try and pay attention and make note of what your character can and can't read. Please don't let your ooc knowledge affect your IC knowledge! ♥

Fourth: ♥ Thank you for making the HMD awesome. :D There was a little trip up but otherwise I'm really glad how it went and I thank you for being civil. Have I told you guys I love you enough, yet?

Fifth: I have nothing to say here but I feel better having five points. :|;; By popular demand, TIERIA IS A DUDE. A MALE. HE IS IN POSSESSION OF A DIDDLY AND BERRIES.

Whooooa, fifth post! This time, it has to do with worldhopping.

As some of you may know, some characters can create objects that aid other characters who can't worldhop, to worldhop. This is entirely fine, but the mods have requested that you run it by a moderator before you do so. We just want to make sure the object makes sense and that there has been thought put into it, so people don't abuse the ability without meaning to. There hasn't been any instances of it yet, so don't worry!

♥ Thats all! :D hahahaha, short post.

EDIT: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO RUN WORLDHOPPING BY US~ The way you rationalize your character worldhopping is fine. If they use an item that is in their own world, that's fine too!

The issue is your character (if they can) making (or just having) a PHYSICAL ITEM that they can give to a character OUTSIDE THEIR CANON. We want you to run that physical item through us before your character gives it away to someone else (IE: Remember when Genie gave out items to some characters who couldn't worldhop, to let them be able to?) so that it makes sense.

Basically, we've been allowing doubles of characters on a case by case basis. It's come to our attention how difficult and sensitive this can be, and it'd really help us know what you think.

Feel free to be completely honest but be tactful of it. Do not call people out, do not make examples of people who are not comfortable being made examples of and if you get into a discussion with someone, keep it civil or take it to IM. I will freeze threads if I see people are getting too personal or heated (and you can happily IM me and tell me I was wrong if I mistake your passion for anger, consent would be needed from both in the discussion.)

Basically, double characters, yay or nay? How do you feel about it? What are the pros and cons of it, in your mind? Should we allow instances of it, or should we just ban it all together? Should it not be so black and white?

There was some discussion on this post here about it earlier, if you'd like to expand on ideas or whatever you like.

We are not going to force anyone with doubles to drop their characters, this is in no way going to affect any of you so please don't feel the need to get defensive! We just want to know, for the future, what we should consider. ♥ thank you, in advance. :D

Hey again! BD Third post and this time we're here to praise your activity!

DDD has grown a lot and we're sure you've all seen the influx of new characters, fandoms, worlds, plots, everything! We've done an absolutely amazing job about being a really involved community and we've avoided rumors of cliques thus far so lets keep this going! \o/ Consider this encouragement to start posting more on the main community, to comment around more, welcome new characters in (if it would be in character to do so-- don't sacrifice being IC!) and make this place amazing for people to play in!

So, thank you guys for being so friendly and welcoming! Lets see what new friends we can make both in character and out of! Simply, a little love from your mods. ♥ You guys deserve it. :D

Hi there! We were hearing some uncertainty about Death Policies on DDD and we'd like to reiterate what we have set and let you guys know upfront what's up.

Death plots -- even if they're small and/or affect maybe one character-- need to be approved by a moderator.

The biggest issue is some have decided to kill off their characters under the assumption they can bring them back whenever and haven't really given any thought to how they're going to be brought back so please keep that in mind. Also, if you only kill your character off for a few hours/a day, maybe you should think about why you even want to? Some plots call for it, and thats understandable but it cheapens the affect of death on other characters. We don't want the attitude of death to be "Oh, ____ died? Yeah, they'll be back soon." That being said, we also don't want to put any limitations on death because they really don't happen that often (more than they used to, but still!) but consider this a friendly reminder to put more thought into your plots. As fun as angst is, well thought out angst is better!

Also, we kindly request that should you kill and revive a character, that the revival technique be in some way related to your character's world. Please mind that not all worlds are connected through their underworld/hell/heaven! It's different and realistically it should be hard for someone not from that world to revive them because of that. Feel free to continue using techniques (for example, the revival ring) to get around that, just don't abuse them.

All in all nothing has changed just wanted to remind you of the current policy~! :D

Hi there everyone, you’re friendly neighborhood modcrew here with some proposed application changes!

We’ve been hearing that you guys would like to see a harder app process and we ran with this idea, deciding to change it around in a way we hope is for the better. What we have in mind is a new system involving prompts. Basically, each month, applicants will be given five prompts. Of these prompts, you will pick two and write a response, in character. It can be third person, first person, whatever person you want so long as you write 150 words a prompt. Each month, these five prompts will be traded out for something new, so that it remains ‘fresh’ and you have a variety to work with. (And we’d be open to you submitting prompt ideas to us!)

Before we come to a final decision on this, we'd like to have your input. Another option is to keep it to one sample instead of two, and simply increase the required word count. Let us know what you'd prefer.

Character notes will remain mostly the same. We will allow Wikipedia links in place of a written response, but we will strongly encourage you to write a history of your own. The more you show you know your character, the better chance you have of getting accepted, right? Writing a little about your character's history and personality will greatly affect your application’s final result. But as we said, you will still be allowed link to a wiki page.

Now, we’d like to know what you think! Comment away!

Edit: Considering [livejournal.com profile] maraihi's suggestion to have the option to pick a prompt to work off of OR to write your own sample post of a required length (to be debated)-- what do you guys think of that?
