Player nickname: Angie Player LJ:soulholders Way to contact you: Email: bobertheduck@sbcglobal.net AIM: soulholders Other: Plurk --- soulholders (it’s never taken) Are you at least 15?: Yes. Current Characters: None Character: Codex (Cyd Sherman) Fandom: The Guild
History: Cyd Sherman started life out on the right track—she was a child prodigy violinist, she probably had great grades and friends and all the things that would make any girl happy, but then she caught her boyfriend cheating on her with the first chair oboist, set his cello on fire, and got addicted to a MMPORPG, which resulted in her being jobless, penniless, boyfriend-less and basically friendless, besides the people that she now plays with online. Those five people plus her make up the guild known as the Knights of Good. They stand for all that is good and just in the world or something like that, or at least they’re careful to be courteous in their slaying of enemies. In this world she’s known only as the name of her character, Codex, and is called that more often than her actual name.
The game is assumed to be World of Warcraft, but they never say the actual name. She’s so addicted to it that her therapist actually ‘broke up’ with her because she seemed unwilling to change her habits or cut back in any way.
All was well and good in the guild--they’re very comfortable online and trust each other with just about everything. They were all quite happy to stay online, however, even though they’re a local guild and could definitely leave their houses and see each other in person on a regular basis. That changed when Zaboo, a member of Codex’s guild, went offline for an alarming amount of time and showed up on Codex’s doorstep proclaiming that he was in love with her and she was in love with him as well.
He had cyberstalked her and found out where she lived, along with every bit of her private information, and then, because he wouldn’t leave and kept acting really creepy, she suggested on the voice chat that the entire guild meet in person so that she could acquire their help in getting the socially inept ‘warlock’ out of her apartment. Of course, it didn’t work out quite like she expected, and she wound up having to tell him directly to leave. Just when she thought she was safe, Zaboo’s mother showed up and punched her in the face for ‘stealing her son away’.
Soon after her arrival, Zaboo tried to hang himself which was thwarted by Codex pulling the Ethernet cord loose from the fan. When she questioned Zaboo as to why he would do that, he confessed that he ran away from his mother because she controlled every aspect of his life except for the internet, but that she was in the process of reading Internet For Dummies and soon he wouldn’t even have that. The guild heard the entire exchange over the microphone and they all decided to meet again, so Codex and Zaboo escaped her apartment. But alas, Zaboo’s mother found them, and it looked as though Zaboo would remain a prisoner forever, but the guild banded together and banished the evil troll from whence she came.
Zaboo’s mother is a real estate lawyer, so she got Codex evicted from her apartment shortly afterwards, and Zaboo moved with her to another one. She quickly took action however, and told Zaboo that he’s ‘a starter character’--he needed to ‘level up’ before she could even think about dating him. She then convinced her guild leader, Vork, to take Zaboo in as his roommate, with the rent fee of course being guild gold.
Soon afterwards, she bumped into a very attractive stuntman named Wade. Unfortunately their conversation was cut short because it was time for a raid, but all in all it was a positive, though slightly awkward, experience. When she signed on, she pulled her fellow female guildmates, Tink and Clara, into a separate chat and they encouraged her to go for it, stressing that sometimes real life is more important than gaming. When Wade arrived back at the complex, she jumped offline and began playing the violin to impress him. She ended up severely messing up that encounter and thought for sure that she’d ruined her chances with him, but the next time she saw him things weren’t so bad. He even thought that it was cool that she was a gamer, saying that his roommate was one too.
Back on the computer, a message popped up stating that the server would be down for four hours, which was… horrible news. Codex chose to spend that time with Wade, but when she knocked on his door a girl answered it. Thinking that this was Wade’s girlfriend, she got together with Tink and Clara to have a depressed-girls night, but Clara printed out flyers and a lot of people showed up, including Wade and the girl living with him, who wasn’t his girlfriend after all, just a roommate. He and Codex finally kissed, only to be interrupted by Zaboo, who claimed he had leveled up enough and challenged Wade to a duel to decide who should get Codex. Neither of them won, because Wade eventually decided it wasn’t worth fighting over Codex and she finally told Zaboo that she wasn’t interested in him at all. She walked out of that situation and found Wade already kissing Clara, got pretty upset, and walked outside only to find Zaboo making out with Wade’s roommate, Riley.
Tensions were high in the guild, but Codex had hope that a new expansion pack would bring them back together. She was sadly mistaken. At the Gamestop they were first in line until a rival group, the Axis of Anarchy, cut in front, and tricked the manager of the store into sending the Knights of Good to the back of the line when they tried to protest. Vork, feeling like a failure, gave up his leadership role to Codex, and Tink, who was having problems with Bladezz, (another member) left the guild completely and ran off with the Anarchists.
Over the course of Codex’s reign as leader, the guild fell apart more and more as time went on, for various reasons, most of which weren’t her fault but she felt responsible anyway, and the Axis of Anarchy started attacking Bladezz out of game. Every time she tried to reason with the leader, Fawkes, he belittled her and then uped the ante on the attacks. She realized it was no use talking to him, and went out in the sunlight to talk directly to Tink, but that didn’t work either.
Eventually it got to the point where everyone dropped out but Codex and Zaboo. They tried a new approach--attack the weakest link of AoA, and it worked--they found out that the Anarchists were getting together the next day to plan their strategy for destroying all the KoG in real life.
Vork finally took back his position as leader and they rounded up the guild for an epic gaming showdown against the Anarchists. If they won, the Anarchists would leave them alone for good, and if lost, the Knights of Good would disband forever.
It finally came down to Fawkes and Tink against Codex, and just when she thought she was going to lose, her avatar talked to her and told her to stop playing like Cyd and start being more like Codex. After that she was able to turn the battle around and set her guild members straight at the same time, which was helped out by Tink getting mad at the Anarchists and quitting, which made it a one-on-one battle. Codex was able to win, Tink rejoined, and the Knights of Good were a guild again.
Just when Codex and Zaboo were having a not-awkward moment, Fawkes, impressed at Codex’s skill, stepped between them and told Codex that they were going on a bar date. She told Zaboo that she wasn’t even going to show up, but she goes, gets drunk, and sleeps with Fawkes. Feeling guilty, she told the guild right away and said they’re dating, and the guys of course had problems with that.
It turns out though, that Fawkes has a one-time-only rule, but to avoid embarrassment, she forced him to meet her at the restaurant where Bladezz works and asked him to at least keep up the illusion that they’re dating. It looked like he was going to deny her request, but then Bladezz showed up and told about how much drama it’s causing in the guild, and Fawkes immediately agreed to keep pretending.
Codex’s computer had been crashing and catching on fire, but since Bladezz refused to fix it for free and Codex was poor, Bladezz helped out by getting her a job at the same restaurant as him.
Personality: In the real world, which is really all we see of her, Codex can be described as extremely sporadic and neurotic--her social skills are very limited--she fears real people and the judgment that they bring in regards to gaming. For this reason, whenever she comes face to face with a new person, she doesn’t know how to hold a coherent conversation—she’s always at a loss for words so usually her RL experiences don’t last very long. Though, she’s just a shy person in general and even when it’s online she’s not very good at talking to people.
However, once she knows someone, she can ramble on and on and on trying to get to her point which sometimes seems just out of her reach. So she’s not a very good communicator in general, but she tries really hard and it usually comes off as cute. She definitely wasn’t made to be the guild leader--everyone likes her too much and she tries too hard to be liked.
Her opinion of herself is really low, and most of the time she’ll just let people walk all over her, but there are times when she really stands up for herself or what she believes in and they’re usually character defining moments. A lot of the time when that happens she’ll be in the process of giving up and then in the middle of her default-setting response she’ll change direction and give that person a piece of her mind. She mainly does this to her guildmates because she’s not as afraid of their reactions. Most of the time though, she gets her way because her automatic reaction to things is to have panic attacks and/or start crying hysterically and people generally just want to make her stop. She’s not manipulating them though, that’s just how she expresses her feelings and it makes people want to take care of her because she brings out the parental instincts in people when she gets to that point.
She’s usually extremely kind to people has no idea how to react when someone’s being overly rude, a trait that was most often expressed when she had to cut into the AoA chat room to talk to them about laying off on the ruin-Bladezz’s-life plot. They were all swearing and screaming at each other, and then started insulting her when she spoke up, which made her have even more ‘metasocial anxiety’ than she already had going into it.
Sometimes even with her own guildmates she clams up because they’re being too mean for her to handle, though those instances are getting fewer and fewer as time goes on. Because of her sweet demeanor, she hardly ever insults people herself, at least not to their face, even if they really deserve it, so the few times that she does insult someone who knows her really well, even if it’s only to call them a doo doo head or something equally cute, it really has an effect. When it happened to Vork, he flipped out, said “I must be a horrible person!” and went AWOL for days.
When she talks to her webcam, however--which she does to make sense of her life--she says whatever she feels like without too much regret, though she still holds back on really insulting people full on and tries to stay positive.
Despite all of her issues, she really does want to be in a good relationship with a guy, and she tries really hard to make it work, but it just keeps falling apart. Fawkes is probably the first time in the whole series that she’s found a guy that actually balances out her personality. (He even admitted that their ‘chemistry is undeniable’) Any non-gamer at this point would not be a good match for her—there just wouldn’t be enough between them for the relationship to go anywhere.
Other:
She also likes to read romance novels and comics--gaming isn’t her only hobby.
Codex will receive canon updates as the episodes are uploaded.

Well I’d say that went very well--I went, I did what I needed to, Fawkes understands that it’s important to me that we keep pretending, and everything’s going to be just fine! Just fine.
[She smiles at the camera, trying to hold it and look proud, but it falls after a few seconds]
Okay, so maybe it’s a terrible idea to keep lying to the guild about Fawkes, especially since I know he only agreed to it because it’s causing problems--thanks a lot, Bladezz--but what else was I supposed to do? He has his dumb… ‘taste the buffet’ rule, or whatever it is, and I-I’m just not ready to admit I’ve played a part in that! I can’t let down the guild like that--I’m supposed to be better than this!
I never should’ve told them that we were dating in the first place! Dumb self! Stop making assumptions! [She smacks herself on the forehead] Ow…
[There’s a slight change in her position, so it’s obvious that she cut something out]
So, all I have to do is make sure they don’t find out! Shouldn’t be too hard, I mean, it’s only for a little while, right? Right? I can keep this a secret, nooo problem. [She nods her head a few times and smiles--she looks as if she’s trying to convince herself of that, and not like she actually believes it.]
But other than that, I’m really glad to have a computer again! Even if it’s um… not the best computer ever?
[Another cut--she’s looking down, underneath the desk--assumedly at the computer]
I think it was made in the 90’s or something… [She makes an ‘ew’ face]
[Cut--she’s suddenly looking at the screen again]
It does have places to plug my webcam and microphone into though, and I really think that this job could be good for me--if nothing else at least it’ll feed me, no more ramen breakfasts--yay, woo hoo! And the boss is...nicer than most bosses I suppose.
I could probably do without all the constant pirate references though.
“No, no, no! Why is this happening?!” Codex stared in horror at the dilapidated monitor currently being used for something it was never equipped for. “Don’t do this to me, please? You’ve been so good! Come on, you can do it!” But the ancient computer wasn’t listening--its gaming capacity for had been reached two levels ago and it refused to participate any more. She sat there, waiting expectantly for it to get out of its slump, but after five minutes of the same frozen screen, she sighed and hit ctrl-alt-delete. But not even that would come up, so she pressed the power button until it turned off and hurried to the kitchen.
“Where the hell is Codex, Bladezz--her character just bailed and we’re getting our asses kicked!”
“How am I supposed to know--what, am I, her mom now?”
“You’re the closest! Just shout out the door or something you little--”
Codex got to Bladezz’s laptop and pushed the microphone button before Tink could finish her sentence. “No that’s okay, I’m here! Ummm, my computer died… again… sorry about that. You’ll just have to… keep going without me I guess?”
“Oooh, helpful-friend time! I can totally log into your screenname and play for you, you know, so that you’re not behind in leveling!”
“No, um, that’s okay Zaboo, I changed the password, anyway… for… all my accounts.” She and Bladezz shared a look--then Bladezz rolled his eyes and went back to charbroiling burger patties.
“I know, which is why I had to find them again--you picked really tricky ones this time!”
“O-oh…” What on Earth was she supposed to say to that? Zaboo would never get over his need to be in everyone’s personal lives no matter what--she was just grateful that he wasn’t the type to use that info in a revenge strategy of some sort. “Well, still, I’ll be fine if you just… keep using your own character--I’ll just catch up to you guys later.”
“Okay, bestest friend of mine!”
That was another thing, since when has Zaboo been her ‘best friend’? She certainly didn’t agree to that, but ever since his freak-out about her sleeping with Fawkes, he’s been acting really, really over-supportive and it’s getting a little bit... strange. … That’s another very good reason why she shouldn’t tell the guild about Fawkes and her not really dating, she decided--Zaboo would probably run over and give her sympathy, and then… never leave. No, better to just… let this whole thing run its course.
Vork decided it was time to add his two cents to the situation. “Codex! Something has to be done about your computer situation, or we’ll be forced to call in a substitute! Your login time in the past week is down by 64 percent in comparison with previous ones!”
Clara cut in. “Oooh, then can we bring my husband in again?”
The entire guild shouted in unison, “NO!”
“Look guys, I’m trying! I have no money, remember? I spend all my time with you! As soon as I get my first paycheck I’ll get some new computer parts, I swear.”
“Well why don’t you use one of your boyfriend’s computers until then--I’m sure he’d love to help you out,” Tink suggested in a condescending tone.
“An excellent idea, Tink--though I don’t approve of this inter-guild relation, his presence is now actually useful to our cause for once, and I suggest that you take advantage of that, Codex.”
Oh no, she was afraid that this might happen--why oh why did Tink have to bring him up, that just made everything so much harder, especially with Vork agreeing with it for once. “Oh well, I don’t want to bother him--he’s busy with his own guild and… I wouldn’t want to intrude… Umm, you know what, I should probably… get back to work--need the cash flow…and all that.”
“Very well, report back in when your… ‘computer’…” He said that like he didn’t consider it to be a computer at all. “is feeling up to it.”
“Okay, well… bye then!”
“Bye.”
“…Bladezz I’m just in the next room over.”
He turned away from the grill to give her a look like ‘I don’t really care’ and she just… stood there for a second before walking away awkwardly, having gained another failed social interaction for her repertoire.

Character: James Bond Fandom: James Bond - Craig Verse Character Notes: History:
James Bond is known for following traits:
→ Womanizer/Charmer
- Though in actual reality, he isn't that charming. He gets them into bed for several reasons. One, being to be able to gather information, because sometimes the women he seduce are women are already with another man. He doesn't care about what they want, as long as he gets what he does.
This is an exception with Vesper. He seems to genuinely care about the woman, even as far was to love her utterly and completely. He cared about her even as far as to become consumed with revenge upon her betrayal. Since then, he hasn't been able to trust another human being as much as he trusted her.
→ Being tooth-in-cheek
While this was a characteristic of the James Bonds from Connery to Brosnan, this version of James Bond downplays the innuendo, but he substitutes it for a combination of icy cold snark and subtle innuendo.
→ His shameless destruction of public property.
James Bond has no regard for public property. If it's in his way, he'll get rid of it. If it's an amazing car that can shoot rockets out of the tailpipe, he's driving it into a tanker to blow it up. Everything around him a a potential weapon.
The same goes for people, if you're his target and you're in his way. You're dead.
Despite the movie's attempt to make Bond seem complex, what it does illustrate is a man at odds with himself and his work. In the movie, he kills mercilessly and out of necessity, however he finds himself wondering what this is all for? For country? For the world? Enter Vesper. She makes him feel that there is more to life than jumping off of buildings or killing people. However, the worst happens and she kills herself in order to save him. What he then finds out was that she was only with him because she was trying to save her boyfriend. Bond is consumed by revenge and blinded by rage on a steak to avenge her.
The movie begins with James Bond in Prague where they show how he earns his 00 status - his license to kill by killing the corrupt MI-6 section chief named Dryden. Before that he had to kill his underground contact named Fisher. While this is going on, in Africa, a man called Mr. White arranges a meeting between the main antagonist of the film, Chiffre and Obanno, a leader of a militia guerrilla group. They need to properly hide their assets, and Le Chiffre assures them that there is no risk in the portfolio. In reality, Chiffre gambles with companies by short selling companies by arranging terrorist attacks to attack their stock values.
Bond's first mission as a 007 agent, he is supposed to track a bomb-maker named Mollaka in Madagascar. After a very long chase across the city (spanning over construction sites, homes and finally the Nambutu Embassy). Bond doesn't care that there are cameras everywhere, he shoots the target on the embassy in front of the camera and blows it up to escape. While he's getting yelled at by M back in Britain because of the international incident he created, he tries to find who had hired him. He receives an SMS from an associate of Le Chiffre in the Bahamas. Bond travels there - most notably after crashing someone's car that thought that he was a valet - and finds out who the person is. He wins the man's Aston Martin in a poker match and seduces his wife who tells him that her husband is going to Miami on business. The day before he leaves, she's murdered and he knows that he's on the right track. He learns that it's Le Chiffre's plan is to blow up a new plane of which he's short sold stock in. When Bond stops this attack, the banker suffers a huge financial loss.
After this happens, Le Chiffre is threatened with death unless he recovers his client's lost investment. In an effort to do so, he sets up a high stakes poker game. Bond, in hopes to defeat Le Chiffre in his own game, asks the British government to invest in this venture. This is where he meets up René Mathis, his ally in Montenegro, and the infamous Vesper Lynd, a treasury agent. She is the one that was was assigned to look after his handling of the government's $10 million buy-in because of his notoriety of disregarding taxpayer money. Over the course of the tournament, it's obvious that Bond starts to have feelings for Vesper. At one point, when Le Chiffre tries to assassinate Bond, he kills them all but she is in shock. He sits in a shower with her, kissing her to try and make her feel better about it.
At the high point of the tournament, Le Chiffre leads Bond into thinking he is bluffing and he loses big. Upset, Vesper, refuses to give Bond the money to buy back into the tournament because she said it was a reckless move. Completely angry that he lost to Le Chiffre, Bond prepares to assassinate Le Chiffre upon his defeat, but he is approached by one of the other players, a CIA officer Felix Leiter who is also assigned to Le Chiffre. Leiter thinks that Bond could win the tournament and supplies him enough funds to re-enter the tournament in exchange for allowing the CIA to take in Le Chiffre. Back in the game, Bond wins the tournament with an inside draw to a straight flush. Sadly, they cannot celebrate long as Vesper is abducted by Le Chiffre, who uses her to lure Bond into a near-fatal car chase and caputre.
Taken from Wikipedia, because they say it with such lulz:
Le Chiffre strips Bond naked, ties his hands and feet to a chair, and tortures him for the access code to the game's winnings by whacking his testicles. When it becomes clear that Bond will not yield, Le Chiffre prepares to castrate him. At that moment Mr. White enters and executes Le Chiffre and his associates for their failure. Bond and Vesper are left alive.
When Bond awakens in a hospital, he orders the arrest of Mathis. Le Chiffre had told him that he was a double agent. It's here that Bond admits his love for Vesper, he wants to quit the service before he can't be human again. He quits the service and goes on a vacation with her in Venice. It soon turns sour when he learns that his winnings were never deposited and that in fact she's stolen them. Angry, he chases her to meet the people she was giving the money to. After a long fight, the building collapses and Vesper dies in an elevator shaft and White leaves with the money. He learns that he had been used because Vesper's boyfriend was kidnapped and she was just paying the ransom - on the condition that Bond was let to live. He finds White and shoots him. When asked about the identity of his assailant, Bond says the classic line. The name's Bond. James Bond.
First Person (entry type):
Wonderful. Let no one tell you that accessing any sort of internet port is a waste of time. You should tell me, what do the lot of you do on this site? From what I've seen, ducklings aren't exactly a euphemism for anything.
Though, enough of that, I need this off of my mobile so I can get on and out. ... Suppose you all need to know who you need to provide technical support for: my name is Bond, James Bond.
sample two; more examples of his posts (http://idkmybffaston.livejournal.com/)
Third Person:
i hope this is okay- this is my sample for ingen_rpg
James Bond was a man on a mission. He was hot on the tail of someone that was connected to the people that had been involved in that incident in Venice. Staring down a small lizard in the middle of a strange rainforest was not what he considered part of the mission. He has spent the entire morning trying to figure out where he was. Irritated that he had gotten nowhere, he had decided to shift his focus on trying to escape.
Though he had yet to meet some of the island's inhabitants, he started to notice the lack of humans around the island. It wouldn't have surprised him that it was an island where he was supposed to die. After all, with vast amounts of money, came the desire to make people die in eccentric ways. Le Chiffre had his chair - and he supposed that the people of this island had a knack for wanting to hunt human. It was part of the job, really.
So he was exaggerating. The new 007 agent didn't like the looks of the island, and his instinct was telling him that this island wasn't meant for humans to be on.
... the heavy breathing behind him was another sure indication that the spy should start running. And, after the initial shock, he did. He sprinted as fast as he could back to safe zone of his bunker, where he decided that for once, it was time for a game plan.
I was just wondering, since I still don't have posting access to either the OOC or the main community, didn't I join them properly? I got the feeling I joined them twice, so I'm a bit reluctant in trying to join them a third time, you see. Or, am I just being impatient? XD;

Character: Lucario Fandom: Pokemon – Lucario and the Mystery of Mew
Character Notes: History: Lucario’s story begins over 1000 years before the present time of the movie. Here he was the partner of a knight named Sir Aaron and extremely loyal to him. Under his guidance, Lucario learned to sense the force known as Aura – a resonance that is given out by all living things. Honing his skills, Lucario became able to detect living things and differentiate between living things and solid objects, a little like echo-location or night-vision. He did this with his eyes closed and became extremely agile. Using Aura, no foe could hide from Lucario and he could detect incoming attacks even blindfolded or in the dark. He was able to use the power offensively as well using a technique known as Aura Sphere and even developed telepathic capabilities that allowed him to communicate with humans.
At the time the story begins a war is breaking out between two nations of Pokemon, with Cameran Palace – the place that Aaron and Lucario were sworn to protect - caught in the middle. Lucario is on the trail of Sir Aaron who is making his way to the Tree of Beginning, a sacred place home to many extinct and legendary Pokemon, including Mew. The Tree is not actually a Tree but a network of rock and crystal and a living organism. It is said to be able to revive the earth and soothe hearts but requires Mew to do so. As Lucario journeys to find his master, he is intercepted by a group of Houndoom who blind him temporarily but with Aura, Lucario eventually catches up to Aaron. However, his master suddenly turns on him and tells him that he is abandoning the castle and Queen Rin and throws down his staff at Lucario. The Pokemon is trapped inside the crystal atop the staff in much the same way as a Pokeball and remains there until the present day.
In the present, Cameran Palace is holding a ball to celebrate its history and the legend of Sir Aaron. Ash Ketchum earns the place of the Guardian of Aura (as Aaron was known as the True Guardian of Aura, this is considered an honour) after winning a Pokemon battling tournament and dons Aaron’s outfit as well as receiving his staff to hold. After giving the signal later that night to begin the fireworks, Lucario is released from the crystal staff. He mistakes Ash for Aaron as he is still blinded and Ash appears to have the same Aura as Aaron did with a similar outline too, due to his costume, but after opening his eyes again he realises that he has made a mistake.
Confused now, Lucario wanders the Palace which hasn’t changed much from his home 1000 years ago. Even Queen Ilene, the current Queen, resembles Queen Rin of the past and Lucario bows before her by mistake. However Ilene takes pity on him and explains that his memories are now ancient events. Just then, Max, who was also accompanying Ash runs in to explain that he saw Mew in the Palace attic and that it took Pikachu (and Team Rocket’s Meowth) somewhere. To confirm this, a girl named Kidd who had been tracking Mew in order to discover its mysteries joins them too, explaining that she saw Mew transform into a Pidgeot and carry them to the Tree of Beginning. Ash makes the decision to go and rescue Pikachu himself and at Ilene’s request, Lucario agrees to lead them there.
Along the way there the group stop off at a hot spring, but Lucario perches on a rock away from them. He has become distrusting of humans and is upset because of the loss of Sir Aaron. He does reminisce though, still trying to work out why Aaron trapped him in the staff and betrayed him. At night, Ash talks about how Pikachu and himself didn’t get along very well but after surviving an attack from a flock of Spearow, they both learned to respect one another and became best friends. Lucario walks off in a huff at that believing that humans and Pokemon could never be friends, feeling himself that he was just a servant of Sir Aaron and was then betrayed. He gets into an argument with Ash and when the Pokemon retorts that perhaps Pikachu just wanted to get away from a weak trainer, Ash pounces on him angrily and they wrestle with one another.
Once they had been broken up, Lucario is approached by Max who offers him chocolate in an attempt to earn his trust, something he had never experienced before. He accepts it and tries some, smiling as he enjoys the taste, but tries to hide his enjoyment when he sees Max noticing. Later that night, Ash tries to talk to Lucario again and explain that he and Pikachu really are best friends but Lucario doesn’t understand and still refers to Aaron as his master.
As they near the Tree of Beginning, Lucario pauses at the spot he remembers Sir Aaron abandoning him. Whilst remembering the scene he accidentally activates a Time Flower – crystal-like flowers that record memories and then play them back using holographic projections when activated by Aura. The group watch as Aaron tells Lucario that he’s abandoning them, throws the staff down and traps him. At that moment one of the armies of Pokemon floods through the valley, and Lucario begins to attack them with Aura Sphere out of confusion. Ash manages to calm him, making him realise that they’re just illusions. Understanding how he feels now, Ash apologises to the Pokemon, and Lucario accepts, making the trainer promise never to abandon Pikachu.
Eventually they make it to the tree but find that it is guarded by the three Regi Pokemon –Regirock, Registeel and Regice. It seems only Pokemon are permitted to enter the tree and any intruding humans are attacked. What’s more, the tree itself seems to consider humans an ‘infection’ as they walk through the tunnels that make up its veins and strange red blobs chase after them to try and consume them and get rid of them, like white blood cells fighting infection. Using teamwork, Ash eventually finds Pikachu though and introduces him to Lucario, who begins to understand their friendship. It is even more apparent when Ash is consumed by one of the red blobs, as his Pokemon cry and mourn his loss.
Mew takes pity on the Pokemon then and feeling sad himself he rises up to touch the crystals within the Tree, performing the healing spell the Tree is capable of. All of those who were consumed by the blobs, including Ash, are deposited safely in the chamber again. However, Mew suddenly becomes ill. Contacting her boss, Kidd explains that the Tree’s immune system has gone into shock and the Tree is dying as it starts to collapse. It is then she realises that the Tree and Mew are connected and if the Tree dies, Mew will also die.
As the group try to find a way to revive the Tree they find themselves at its core. However, Mew is too weak to do anything. It is here that Lucario finds Aaron trapped in crystal. He activates a Time Flower there and watches in awe as a projection of Aaron speaks about Lucario as his friend and not his servant. Aaron hadn’t abandoned anyone but was in fact trying to protect Lucario and prevent him from following him to the Tree of Beginning. This was because in order to defend the land of Rota and stop the war, Aaron had to sacrifice himself and give up his Aura to Mew in order to pacify the Pokemon and heal the land. He didn’t want Lucario to follow the same fate.
Upset by this revelation and finally understanding the friendship between human and Pokemon now, Lucario vows to heal the tree in the same way Aaron did and offers his Aura to Mew, even though it means he will die in the process. Unfortunately his Aura alone isn’t strong enough and doesn’t work. But since Ash has the same Aura as Aaron’s, he dons the Aura-enhancing gloves that were left beside Aaron’s crystal and tries to use his own, despite his lack of training. At the last moment, Lucario pushes Ash out of the way, meaning that only he will be sacrificed to the Tree. Lucario fades away after that with Ash by his side, joining Aaron in the core of the Tree.
The Tree is healed and the rest of the group continue their separate journeys. The portrait of Sir Aaron is altered to include Lucario now as a symbol of their friendship.
Personality: Lucario is very serious by nature and despite Aaron’s attempts, he does often take things too seriously. With a little coaxing though, he does learn to relax a little and is capable of showing a smile. Outwardly though he often appears cold and edgy, always on the alert. This is particularly the case when he feels that he has been betrayed. He is fiercely loyal but it seems that once his trust has been broken, Lucario is quick to hold a grudge. He quickly becomes consumed by memories and is desperate to find answers. Aaron is by far the most important person in his life, dead or alive.
Aside from working alongside Sir Aaron, it seems that Lucario prefers his own company, shown sitting apart from the group and often deep in thought by himself. However he is capable of making friends with those who persevere enough and seems willing to try out new things when he can (like eating the chocolate Max offers him, and warming his feet in the hot spring with Aaron).
Being the Pokemon of a knight, Lucario holds a strong sense of justice and would do anything to protect those he is sworn to, including sacrificing himself as shown here. He also warns a Bonsly about stealing, showing that he has certain morals he abides by.
Lucario is a skilled fighter and enjoys training, particularly alongside Aaron who taught him everything he knows about Aura and how to use it, as well as how Time Flowers work. He is extremely fast and agile and his Aura attacks are highly powerful, however he suffers defensively and if hurt is likely to be hit hard.
First Person (entry type): [VOICE] Sir Aaron... I still don’t understand. He was always so loyal to Queen Rin. How could he turn on the Queen, on me, at the kingdom’s greatest time of need? Have I really been asleep for over one thousand years? The Palace is still so familiar to me, yet different. And... Queen Rin... only her descendant is left now. I am alone.
[A growl.] I can’t believe that my master would leave me trapped for so long, only for me to wake up in this strange future full of things I have never seen before and people I don’t know. And all I have as a reminder of my time is this crystal... A crystal that seems to hold memories, but nothing from my past. No, only a Time Flower could hold something so ancient. It seems that this crystal is fairly new, a gift from the Tree of Beginning.
...
I hear voices. Voices from within the crystal. Sir Aaron? Sir Aaron! Can you hear me?
Third Person: Things had been hard for Lucario ever since he had been released from his master’s crystal staff. The Palace still looked the same but there were things around it that he found it hard to comprehend. Machines with wheels that humans rode in for speedy transport. No longer did they rely on wooden carts, but resorted to metal instead. There were Pokemon he had never seen before, all travelling alongside humans. Were they all servants too? It seemed not. At least not all of them, as Ash had led him to believe.
Without his master, Lucario felt lost. In the past his duty was to him and to Queen Rin. Now he was alone in a time he was unfamiliar with and his duty was to nobody but himself. But how could he forget Sir Aaron? He had obviously done something wrong, or else his master wouldn’t have abandoned him like that. It was no wonder he had started to distrust humans. To them, Pokemon were there to be abused, only used when needed, and then discarded like waste.
Yet the trainers he had met here were different. Their Pokemon loved them, he didn’t need Aura to sense that. And they were kind... just as kind as Aaron had been to him.
He shook the thought from his mind. I must learn the truth. he thought to himself. No matter what I have to do to get there.

Character: Schmendrick the Magician Fandom:The Last Unicorn Character Notes: History: As a child, Schmendrick served as the apprentice of the magician Nikos, who was the mightiest magician in the world. Unfortunately for Schmendrick, he was incredibly incompetent when it came to magic. Though he could perform tricks and spells, Schmendrick had no real control over his magic and therefore would fail to do just about anything properly. Nikos was certain, however, that Schmendrick had immense power. He decided that, since he could not help Schmendrick realize and control his power, the only person left in the world who could was Schmendrick himself. And so, he cast a spell on his apprentice, making it so that he would be immortal until he came to understand and command his power as he should.
This was, as immortality usually works, a very unfortunate thing for Schmendrick. The magician was unable to understand himself at all, and therefore was doomed to wander the Earth on the off chance that he might stumble into understanding. After an indeterminate period of time, Schmendrick joined up with Mommy Fortuna's Midnight Carnival, where the witch Fortuna disguised simple animals as mythological beasts. Schmendrick tried his best to use this time with Mommy Fortuna to gain some experience and hopefully some guidance, but all of that changed the night the carnival picked up a real unicorn.
Unable to see the unicorn caged in Fortuna's cheap horrorshow, Schmendrick helped free her and then followed her on her quest to find the Red Bull and free the other unicorns of the land. On their way, Schmendrick had his first brush with real magic as he summoned up the images of Robin Hood to distract a band of thieves so he could escape them. One woman who lived with the thieves, Molly Grue, joined Schmendrick and the unicorn on their quest. Once they reached the land ruled by King Haggard, the Red Bull appeared to try and chase the unicorn down the way it had done to the others. Schmendrick, prodded by Molly, attempted to disguise the unicorn as something else with his magic so that the Red Bull would leave them be. This was his second brush with real magic, which allowed him to change the unicorn into a human girl.
This attempt at magic left Schmendrick feeling desperately angry at the fact that he couldn't hold the magic like other wizards could, and he became more certain that he was never going to shed his immortality. The unicorn, disguised as Lady Almalthea, managed to enter Haggard's castle with Schmendrick and Molly; however, as time passed, she began to forget who she was and why she was there. Schmendrick managed to use his abilities to find the way down to the lair of the Red Bull, but by then, he was certain that he'd never be able to summon the magic to change the unicorn back, as she had fallen in love with Prince Lir and had experienced things that no immortal being should experience. However, as she faced the Red Bull, Schmendrick managed to summon and handle the magic needed to return her to her previous form; more than that, he managed to understand how the magic worked, and managed to keep hold of it after he had summoned it for the spell. The spell placed on him was broken, and he became mortal once more.
After the unicorn rescued the other unicorns from the Red Bull, Schmendrick used his new-found power and all of his experience to guide Lir towards his duty as a king, and then left the kingdom to travel the world with Molly Grue as a true magician.
Personality: Schmendrick is, at heart, a true and kind man. He does nothing out of spite or malice; at worst, his actions are fueled by his greatest desire: to become a real magician. Even then, however, his self-importance does little to hinder his kind nature, and he is always trying to help his friends when he can. For all of his hidden nobility, however, Schmendrick is indeed incompetent and does have a bitter streak within him. He's well aware of his shortcomings as a magician, and though he strives to overcome them, sometimes his own incompetence makes him reluctant to try anything past juggling oranges.
Other: Because the film version of The Last Unicorn was adapted from the novel by the author, I'm using a little of the book's back-story when it comes to Schmendrick, who got a little bit of a short stick in the movie. I'll also be taking him from before the story begins, while he's still with Mommy Fortuna and they are sans a unicorn.

First Person (entry type): I'm always in a predicament when I think I need to write something down, because whenever I get to my pen and paper, the thing I wanted to write down isn't in my head any more. It's a daft, dumb thing of mine. What I was going to write down, that is. They were some words for the summoning of beasts. Nikos never once had to write a thing down, not when it came to magic. He could just say the words, and they'd do exactly what he wanted them to. Me, I can't even turn an acorn into a tree. I can do the illusions, sure, but I can never remember the words.
Last night, I tried to pull a rabbit from my hat, mispronounced a word and ended up with a Gila monster instead. Those sorts of things are easy to play off to a crowd but they certainly don't help me any, do they? I'm this much closer to convince the magic to work, but by this much I mean there's a whole world between us. "Etu belarius vinu," those were the words. Or maybe "venue." Better try both.
Third Person: The rain that day was even more terrible than the day before. It was the sort of rain you usually only received in warmer, more equatorial areas of the world, where the air was hot and humid while the rain itself barely rose above blisteringly cold, and it came down thicker than bedsheets. Schmendrick was forced to take cover under the overhang of one of the cages of Mommy Fortuna's carnival, hat hanging miserably low as he listened to the dog-turned-hellhound whine and bark at the animals rushing from the shelter of one tree to another. Mommy Fortuna hardly noticed the rain, nor Ruhk; they were both well used to the repugnant weather, while Schmendrick still had the naivety necessary to dislike heat, humidity, hail and the like.
"If you're so miserable," Fortuna shouted suddenly, drawing Schmendrick away from his attempt to turn a palmful of raindrops into wine, "Why don't you make it stop?"
Ruhk and Fortuna both laughed uproariously at the idea of Schmendrick being able to stop anything at all, which only served to aggravate the wizard. "Maybe I will," he responded, before holding his hands out and saying a few words in a stern, fatherly voice. Around him, the rain heated and the sky cooled, and briefly he imagined that the rain altogether halted its fall, fighting gravity for a moment because he, Schmendrick the Magician, had commanded it.
It was such an exhilarating feeling that Schmendrick whooped for joy - he had stopped the rain! Unfortunately, his excitement ruined his concentration and the rain, which had been building above him, let loose and dropped on top of him like a twenty-pound weight. Ruhk laughed louder than ever; however, the sulking magician noticed that Fortuna had fallen silent, and was looking backwards at him with such an intense gaze that, for a moment, Schmendrick regretted using his power at all. For if Fortuna ever figured out just what he was capable of... Well. He would end up like the dog in the cage. And a cage, Schmendrick knew, was no place for an immortal.
